  1. would love the option to center a callout on the main layer of a wall, is this option currently available?
  2. I personally use VERY large texture files that I have imported from my rendering programs and have zero problem in PBR with my 1070
  3. Would I ever upgrade to an SLI for a better experience in PBR...absolutely not, the trade off isn't there. Also if I am to weigh the cost to benefit of SLI vs a new faster card, the answer is always new faster card. The cost of ownership on the extra power consumption is not worth an SLI setup. IMO the only reason to get an SLI is with 2 of the newest cards to solve a problem or have 1 year of the best frame rates on the newest video games. You just wont see that much of a difference in PBR
  4. Love Michael...Unfortunately I didn't listen in. Smoothing angle is a very big part of most rendering software, often dubbed "normal's smoothing"...I personally have to crank up the smoothing angle on chief models as joinery is far too sharp for realistic rendering. This can be used to soften the edges of models(countertops) And for folks that find this thread, what rich is referring to(I assume, I wasn't part of it) is that when turning smoothing angle all the way up, you essentially reduce the amount of vertices in a model, making it easier to delete larger grouped surfaces with the delete surface tool. To test, you can place a toilet in a blank plan, pull a vector camera view, then select the toilet and open the symbol properties. Turn the smoothing angle to zero and boom...look at all of those vertices!! Then open again and crank to 90, and watch how easy it is to delete more sections of the toilet at once with the delete surface tool. correct me if this isn't what we're referring to in the thread Cool tip to share regardless, +1 to @Alaskan_Son
  5. I wouldn't trust that review seeing as though he didn't even troubleshoot the cause of his stuttering issues. Did he properly load drivers etc. He is also reviewing the rx580 card. I personally own the 1070 nvidia version. He may have not been utilizing full 40mb/s as he would've needed to perform some benching to ensure its proper function. Take a look at the comments, some educated responses there I can say from personal experience using Thea Render that the card decreased time to render from 17 hrs to 3 hours utilizing the pascal features of the card. A world of difference in my intended use
  6. @Joe_Carrick You've been summoned, respectfully.
  7. I have the Gigabyte Aorus and it kicks much butt. So long as your macbook has thunderbolt 3 eq. to 40mb/s. nice to gain additional connection options for monitors with G-sync as well
  8. Well shoot, I have such a solid system for backing things up yet I don't have a plan file for this. Seeing as I posted this on my birthday I may have been a bit disorganized that day for whatever reason :). I don't have time to at the moment but the delete surface tool could remove the jamb and turn this into a new symbol..I've never made a window before, it was quite challenging to build in Chief, probably would've been better off in a 3d program. Not sure how one is to properly build the window so the jamb functions correctly
  9. Hey Michael, in this video: Tim shows us a macro that has auto-numbering presumably setup for details. This is what I am looking for! Is it autonumbering by number of plan views on the sheet? he says he purchased it from you!
  10. In our profession I would always opt for a better video card, you never know what will come next in versions x11-x15 etc. I want my laptop to be performing for 5 years at least
  11. Paste hold position, an invaluable tool
  12. Best rendering I've seen from you and team, very sharp...I may need to work in lumion again as Thea seems to be dying. Does lujion use grfx and CPU conjointly yet?
  13. Also, per all of my content, please let me know if any issues arise...missing materials etc.
  14. This is an architectural block, difficult to place and looks incorrect when blocked. unblock and it will look correct, then snap point to point to the corner of your drywall. In this arch block, is a stretchable bullnose surround fixture. It should be added to your library regardless It was very time consuming to create. Enjoy!. Also included is a custom button for adding this to your toolbar. download here: BATH AND SHOWER ASSEMBLY.calibz toolbar button, right click and save to a directory, then when pacing custom library button in toolbar, search for this image in your directory Picture shows shower assembly in PBR as well as the library button(red arrow)
  15. Thanks KB, I have a ton of reasons I want to annotate in layout at the moment. Restructuring all of my details, updating them with better graphics as I go. Updating them to current and more stringent/detailed requirements. I'm also using 11x17 submitting(preference of main employer), which is a challenge to fit what I need to on a page. It makes this challenge a lot easier and faster when annotating in layout. Frankly, this is a problem in Chief, and a clear one.
  16. Thanks Michael as always, I'll shoot you an email one of these days when I catch up to my workload! always appreciated
  17. This is so aggravating to me. Placed a text arrow on layout sheet x, refreshed and reshaped a layout box on sheet Y...go back to sheet X and all of my arrows are all over the freaking place...so AGGRAVATING!!!!!! Auto tail and head unchecked. I've tried CAD blocking periodically to avoid this. CAD blocks slow down my program drastically. I don't need work-arounds or reasons why I should change my methods..this needs to be FIXED!! No reason an arrow on one sheet should have any relationship to anything on another sheet! EXCLAMATION MARK EXCLAMATION MARK I've lost so many hours on this.
  18. To instill a bit of confidence.... I am NOT licensed, however I have drafted several commercial projects, some were required to be stamped, others were let through without a stamp. Working on one right now that will require a stamp. A lot cheaper to do it and have it stamped if you find the right engineer to work with.
  19. to make a label that automatically numbers sequentially? I've been doing my annotations in layout and though I can get a label to have automatic page numbering pointing to the layout page label, I would like the number of the label to automatically number as well.
  20. Worst case is that you lose that sessions added library item..best practice could be that someone creating a custom library item turns off their sync til days end
  21. My user library is gold to me, I don't sync it with any of my calloborators. I use close to 60 custom buttons that link to items in my user library..touch my library and I'm set back a week or two
  22. Use library can be a challenge. Any change to the library OneDrive will upload and lock the file, than all of the other office machines must download this update . If a machine starts CA before the new user library is synced in OneDrive it will revert back to it's previously synced user library and then if a library item is edited in the machine using the previously synced OneDrive while the other user library is uploading it will rename user library when synced etc... If your team plans on editing the user library it should be announced. It may be a better plan to keep the library off of the cloud and work out a distribution system of updates for the library
  23. Yes, I know the arguments here, its been a conscious effort, and good to note for those curious so thank you. I will continue to work in layout though and hope that this gets fixed, I have my own reasons for wanting to work in layout, it suits me on a number of levels.
  24. I've recently transitioned into doing most of my annotations in layout. I know there are very few people in these forums that do this, it is a preference of mine for my workflow and I find myself pumping out CD's a lot faster with my new methods. That being said their exists a HUGE frustration of mine. When I add an image or PDF to a layout sheet and then drag it around or resize it, for some reason CAD arrows on another sheet bind to the image or PDF and drag as well, screwing up sometimes HOURS of work across multiple different pages. My solution is to CAD block my annotations, but I still forget as this is counter intuitive. Please let me know if their is a fix for this! The text should bind to what it was intended only on the page it was intended to!!
