ChiefuserLarkin
Hello, new to Chief and still using the demo but want to create a tray ceiling in the master that follows the outline of the room out 2' from each wall, then stepped up 1' from there. How do I go about doing this? Thank you! Jason
Joe_Carrick
The simplest way would be to create a molding profile and assign it as a crown molding in the room. You will need to set the ceiling height to the maximum height - the cCrown molding will provide the lowered area. You can assign additional crown moldings with offsets if needed. ShaneK
Use soffit tool
BrownTiger
There are several ways to do trey ceiling, Chief suggest 3 part approach: - Create a platform hole(1), platform sides - molding polyline(2), ceiling plane (3) to cover the hole. See https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00738/creating-a-trey-or-coffered-ceiling-using-the-platform-hole-tool.html -Alternative would be to raise the ceiling platform (e.g. 12") and use soffit tool along the perimeter. If you assign a molding (cown) to a room, chief auto apply if to a soffit. -Joe suggestion is good too. If you intent to use Trusses I would be using (1)

HamlinBC
Hey, I see you're in SF. I'm just south of Watertown, and we also have a location in Brookings. If you ever need help or anything, just let me know!
2wheeltodd
There is a 30 second method if there is no room above. Use the room divider tool or invisible wall to outline the ceiling transition. Select the inner "invisible room" and change the ceiling height in the dbx to a foot higher. Super quick & moldings are no problem. The soffit method is equally qood and will give you fewer plan issues but takes a little longer. -Todd
