BethVanDeusen
I posted earlier about converting a Sketchup plan to CA. The person who claims this can be done says using Inkscape will allow me to take the plan, put it in Chief, and edit it. I'm assuming this only works in 2D. Also I am not technologically savvy like many of you so use small words and simple explanations. Or just tell me it's easier to redraw the plan in Chief instead of messing with this other program. Greg_NY61
You don't need Inkscape, do a top view in sketchup, add one longest dimension so you have a gude and export as JPEG (it will look something like the picture #1 attached) and drop that image into Chief. Use point to point tool over that dimension in CA and do point to point over 70'8 and I have 31'11".( follow steps in image #2) Now when you trace over that dimension ( 70'8) your wall will be the same length. Now you can trace over that plan (image #3)
joey_martin
There is NO process that will allow you to put a plan from Sketchup into Chief and have a workable plan. It's simply not true. You can trace a jpeg (see above), you can export DXF/DWG and try CAD to walls to formulate a model, or re-draw from scratch.
BethVanDeusen
Thanks for the responses. Is tracing faster than a redraw? Sounds like redrawing is the simplest thing for me.
DRAWZILLA
Tracing is a good way to go.
joey_martin
If you can get the scale right, re-draw is faster. I have even brought a CAD (DXF/DWG) file into Chief and lock the layer its on to trace over. CAD files should come in already to scale.
BethVanDeusen
Thanks again for the help. I was able to import the DXF and trace/redraw over it. As stated, I'm a little technically challenged but that was pretty easy.
