Mitered Walls Connections - Plan View

Recommended Posts

Does anyone experience the beauty of random, occasional wall connections displaying a mitered joint in plan view? I use a solid grey fill for the main layer of walls, and the mitered joint displays a main layer line weight. The wall then needs to be dragged back a bit and allowed to snap back into connection with the joining wall to get back to a 'clean' connection.

Hi Rob,

Yes, I have seen that occasionally over the years.  It usually seems to happen where multiple walls intersect and at least one of them is different from the others in some particular way, but I've never taken the time to investigate exactly which detail is causing the conflict.  I just pull them back and let them resnap one at a time until the offending one self-corrects.  It is rare to end up with one that won't fix itself after a few attempts.

Russ,

Don't forget that if you still can't get the walls to join correctly, we have that "adjust wall layers a junction" thingy tool to edit the wall layers to get exactly what you want.

Sorry, I don't have access to Chief and can't remember the name of the tool - accessed from the Edit toolbar.

The issue I've experienced happens at simple connections between 2 walls. It appears randomly on an individual corner. It seems that it may occur after a layout window is refreshed and usually only happens to one intersection, which of course, makes it harder to find. One of those things you usually notice after the plan has been printed to paper. This seems to be the only bug I experience regularly. Happened in X6 & X7 before and after the upgrade to Windows 10. I should just check with tech support. I assumed there'd be many others with this same issue.

Not uncommon for me. Can't really predict why or when. Sometimes the wall clean-up tool fixes it, sometimes not, even with walls of the same type. Usually worse in areas where more than three or more walls intersect in close proximity.

I'm looking to make my retaing wall larger than the terrain heights.
In the instructions in this page, https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00652/changing-the-height-of-a-retaining-wall.html
I did all the steps, but the last point. In section/elevation, when I try to click the retaining walls, nothing happens. I don't get boxes or any selection at all.
What is happening that I can't make this selection?
I want to make my wall 6" above the grade/terrain elevation, and I want to drop the foundation of the wall by 24". How do I do this?

      Please assist.
      Thank you.

      Happy Holidays everyone.

I have a plan where I have a few places I need an exterior wall above a roof section, but a railing, or in one case, no wall below.  Is there a way to do this in Chief Architect X11?  The one opening in my screen shot shows some exterior molding, but no wall.  On the one that has the railing below it, I tried the lower wall type if split by roof, but I couldn't get it to show as a wall above and a railing below.  It was either only a railing or all wall.

I am on a macbook pro..

      Thanks,

      Michael

Hi all. I'm fairly new to the software and have only been using it since October. I have a client who wants a wood framed chimney extruding from the middle of the roof up from the gas fireplace. I've tried a bunch of different options to make this work but can't figure it out. Can someone please tell me how to draw walls on top of the roof?

      Thank you!

Anybody have any idea whats going on with the intersections of these deck railings and the exterior walls? Cant get the original default siding to go away at the intersection. Have tried editing default material and making adjustments with the wall layer extents tool.
