PitMan71
I'm using Chief Architect X18 and have a stair with a wider lower section and a narrower upper section, separated using a Complete Break. The lower section has a railing on one side that terminates at a wall. Beyond that point, the stair continues between walls without a railing on that side. The issue is that the wall corner falls in the middle of a tread rather than lining up with a riser. That tread needs to be notched around the wall, with part of its width extending past the corner. However, the Complete Break places the width change at a riser. Is there a way to notch an individual tread around the wall, or does the width change have to occur at a riser? Is there another approach to modeling this that I'm overlooking? Thanks
robdyck
AFAIK, notching is not possible. You can attempt to bury a portion of stairs in a wall but this will be painful. You can break the stair at the full tread before the notch and then add a 3d solid.
ChiefTylerL
I think you would want to draw that tread with a stair landing and then connect the stairs to the landing. The landing is a polyline based object, so you can add breaks and shape it around the wall. The staircases can then snap to the landing so you can keep the automatic functionality. The main downside from this method is that the handrail will not continue automatically. That would need to be drawn with a molding line. This article will go over using landings for a custom staircase: https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-03160/creating-a-custom-staircase-using-landings.html I hope this helps!
