robdyck
There has to be a way to generate a countertop overhang beside a freestanding range without building custom countertops, no? I've eliminated the extra spacing from the bounding box of the range and the countertop overhang is set to 1/16" less than the distance between cabinet and range...and yet Chief won't cooperate. Some of the kitchen gurus can probably clarify if attempting this through cabinet settings is a waste of time and if custom countertops are in fact the only way. Thanks to all who reply...I look forward to your input.
GeneDavis
Fiddling around with it, I find Chief eliminates the cabinet countertop overhang when the distance is 3" or less from cab to appliance bounding box. When you consider what they've done here, it's a convenience to the user, who doesn't have to adjust overhang for cabs next to ranges. The 3-inch space at a cab's side also extends cab side overhang and adds an auto filler when cabs are placed 3" or less apart. With a 3 1/8" space, there is no filler generated, and the c'tops don't join. Looks like you can solve it with a custom. If you want it done auto somehow, you should request a mod, but honestly, any auto fix would likely mean as many clicks or more than just doing the custom.
Solution DBCooper Posted September 25 Solution Share Posted September 25 Why fight it? Auto counters are great but anytime they don't get me exactly what I want I just convert them to custom and move on. BTW, you can probably get what you want by putting the range in an arch block all by itself. Also, I have always wanted a way to force the counter top overhangs and ignore when I am bumped to other things like cabinets and walls. I mean if I say that I want a 3" overhang on the right side, than trust me, that's what I want. Once Chief decides that there is something else there, it will ignore whatever you set. You should probably send in a request for something like this.
robdyck
There's no fighting going on here. I Just wanted it to know if it could be done because I'd like to give a higher end rendering even during design development. And because the design is subject to change, I wanted to avoid custom countertops. @GeneDavis It's not more clicks to achieve that look when your cabinets are already made for this scenario. But @DBCooper has provided a wonderful solution. Thank you! Thinking outside the...bounding box! Edited September 25 by robdyck
