Gtomer
Hi, As a new user I am struggling with Chief's idea of layers. I am versed in AutoCad so I understand the general concept. My problem is I create a layer set for a view but the content shows up in every other view that uses that layer. OK fine. So I create a new layer that will display for only that view. (In this example it is a text layer). No matter what I do when I initiate the text tool it wants to place text on the default text layer. I would like it if I was in a certain layer set, things like dimensions and text would default to the new layers I have set up for those items without having to turn on the default layer and then reassign objects to the new layers. Hope that is clear. Thanks for any help.
joey_martin
You are saving the new layer set over top of the saved plan view. Read up on Saved Plan Views.

Difficult to explain in a few lines, here's some homework for you: https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-03185/understanding-saved-plan-views.html https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00765/understanding-layer-sets.html

Gtomer
Thanks all, I have pretty much resolved the issue. I am working with a contractor who supplies me with his design in CA. His file didnt include the "premade" plan views, which I suspect was the issue all along. His CA version is a couple behind my x16 at least. Just one of many issues between our files. In short, great info and many thanks!
