How to explode / edit furniture

Recommended Posts

I am drawing someone's existing furniture to put into their new home design.

I would like to modify the "Home Gym Weights" Object to remove part of it - is this possible?

I am using Chief X9

Please let me now if anyone has any recommendations / solutions to this issue.

thanks,

Angela

To expand on what Robert is showing, I would recommend:

  • Dropping symbol into a blank plan
  • Open Symbol and turn Smoothing Angle up to 180
  • Use Delete Surface tool to delete unwanted surfaces one at a time (turning Smoothing Angle up makes this much quicker)
  • Click Tools>Symbol>Convert To Symbol

Here is another old thread that goes over some of the more complex details of symbol modification in Chief.

There is a video of mine as well as a good video of Michael's that might be helpful.

Hi there. I have opened it into a new plan. What is the smoothing angle?

Make sure to Open SYMBOL, not Open Object.

Okay thanks - The "delete surface" is blurred out.

Thank you for creating this - Can you save it in x9 though?

I can't seem to open it.

I apologize for ignoring the fact that you are on X9. Unfortunately, I can't save it as an X9 library item. However, by following Michael's instructions and using the Delete Surface too, you can quickly perform the operation yourself.

If you ever want to share symbols with people using older versions, just open a 3D view and Export as 3DS.

Yes, or as a Collada file, etc. It would be nice if we could "save as" to older library formats.

You must be in a 3D View for the Delete Surface tool to become available.

Hi everyone! I am new to Chief and a student of Environmental Design. I just downloaded the student version a few weeks ago and have only had little time to familiarize myself with it. I downloaded a bunch of catalogs basically almost every single one is downloaded. This summer I am taking Kitchen & Bath Design. We are 5 weeks into the semester and so far I had hand rendered everything. But, everyone else in my class is using chief. Their plans, 3D's and elevations look so good. That is something that even if you are the best at hand rendering a 3D plan just looks more real in chief. So, I started really messing with it last week. I want to at least be able to present one of my rooms on Chief. So far I have half way finished my first floor plan. I have the walls finished and was adding my fixtures. I have the toilet and tub. But, my issue is I was looking for a vanity that was at least close to the one I have picked out for my design. I cant find one. There doesn't seem to be many options on vanities. But maybe I'm just not looking in the right place. My main question though is can we upload a picture or the vanity or add it into the catalog somehow so I will have the exact vanity I have used in all my hand rendered drawings? I just do not know what to do at this point and help would be appreciated! I am basically teaching myself how to do all this.

      Hi,

I have been struggling with this for sometime.  I need to rotate the lot (including the dashed setback line) 10 degrees counter clockwise.  I can not find the correct grouping to accomplish it, this maybe related to how close the house sits next the the setback.   I start with rotating everything 10 degrees and the try to rotate just the house back to 90. Instead it also moves the setback with the house instead of keeping it 30’ from the property lines.

I have attached the file if anyone would be so kind as to give it a try or steps I should be taking.
      Thank you,

      Doug

Lets say some really careless designer (ummm me... blush)  makes a mistake in an edit table.  How can it be edited?

I do a bunch of restaurants and I am doing my first in Chief.  The setup is killing me but the drawings are surely starting to look good and no more 7 page changes to move a few things.

Most items including menu boards and desks, computer, etc are furniture, but I need them to be fixtures so they will show in the fixture schedule.  Before I recreate all these symbols and make them a fixture, is there a setting I am missing that will just change a symbol to a different category?

      Hello, I am CA-interior user.
      I have downloaded Beds catalogue ( 3D Library>Furniture>Bed no 1 ).
While using one of the bed, I realised, I am unable to explode / edit any block.

How do I explode/edit these blocks ? I want to customise (drop some part of design), how do I do that ?
The usual steps which I use for exploding/editing other blocks, those options are not available here.

From what I understand these are not Architectural blocks. Is there any way to convert this in to block, so that we can customise it.
      Thanks for help
