coffcons
Hello, I'm having trouble finding plan files in 'windows explorer'. I can find them fine in Chief and I can find older plan files in explorer, but not newer ones. The file paths seem to be the same yet nowhere to be seen. I have Chief 9.5 and Windows Vista. I'm stumped. Any ideas?
lbuttery
chief 9.5 used .pl0 and .pl1 etc for the plans one file per floor in Vista's windows explorer there is a search box enter *.pl1 etc and you should be able to find the files Lew
coffcons
Thanx for reply, Lew. Strangely, when I search using those parameters, I only get a small handfull of returns, most of which are not even Chief files. I have hundreds of plan files, so it's odd that windows can't see them. Chief sees them fine, obviously.
lbuttery
not sure why, but if Chief can see them then they are on your PC somewhere ver 9.5 allowed you to set the various paths for where Chief's components could be found I think it was in preferences it just occurred to me that maybe you have your windows folder settings set to "hide" some file types ??? you may need to contact a PC tech support vendor to see why windows can't find the files that Chief can see this doesn't sound like a Chief issue Lew
coffcons
Could be, Lew. I'll look at my folder settings.
tommy1
Place your plan files in a single job folder for that job and you wouldn't have this problem.
coffcons
Tommy, I DO place my plans in job folders and these go to the default "Plans" folder in CHIEF. CHIEF sees these files fine and yet windows does not. Any ideas?
lbuttery
I think we are out of ideas This is a windows issue you need someone to show you how to use/configure Windows Explorer to see the files you could contact CA's tech support but since you have an older (antique) version there would be a charge or contact David Potter as I think he still has ver 9.5 running along with all the other versions of Chief and the HD products he advises/trains via the internet as a business so he would also charge - but probably less than CA ??? Kbird1
do you have file extensions showing in Windows explorer ? they are off by default in most windows versions as are "hidden" files. Uncheck the box so they show like in the pic below M.
tommy1
It also looks like you're storing your plan in Chief's Directory. In general, that's a bad idea (IMO).
