GeneDavis
Some codes require headers be laterally braced by being plated with flatwise members at both top and bottom. If the header is up tight to the top wall plate, no top plate is required atop the header. This, whether the wall is an exterior one or interior. When Chief builds framing for me, it puts my specified number and sizes of plies of headers above openings, but does not place the required plates. Am I missing something in either wall settings or framing settings or window or door framing settings?
Chopsaw
No you are not missing anything. The only condition that you describe above that chief will currently do automatically is place the header up tight against the top plate provided you have calculated the window position to correspond to that. Otherwise search out one of our previous suggestions or even better start your own.
Chopsaw
It can be done manually in your wall detail but is not very user friendly.
Kbird1
Unfortunately as yet Chief has not updated the way Headers build although it has been "Suggested" and discussed a few times over the Last few years.... maybe time to bump these up again..... https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/topic/12644-more-versatile-header-framing-controls/?tab=comments#comment-108798 https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/topic/16473-chief-built-framing-assemblies/
