SocialAnt
Is there a certain circumstance where an auto dormer is preferred over an auto floating dormer and/or visa versa?
SocialAnt
Yea. I know they are different. I'm asking in what situation would I use one over the other.
johnny
I personally use auto-dormers for clerestory light dormers and false dormers. When I have to have a "real" framed dormer for living space I model by hand. There are always exceptions to this general rule of thumb, but that is how I view it.
SNestor
I’ve done a few videos on Dormers...maybe one will help you out.

Maybe an over-simplification, but in general, use a floating dormer when it will "sit" on the roof instead of on walls underneath the roofline.
