I'm trying to find out how to extend the upper part of the first floor shed roof on the outside second story wall for an overhang.  Any suggestions?

With the '3' key or the break roof plane tool, place a break in the roof plane at the wall and drag the roof up along the wall.

Thanks so much.  I'm learning.  Dragging the roof plane caused the outside 2nd floor wall to disappear (maybe there's a way to prevent that).  I was able to break and drag the roof plane where I needed it.

The first rule of Chief's roofs is they cut walls...and ChopSaw above knew the fix but may not have understood the question...

Yes thanks for jumping in there Larry as I initially thought we were going the other direction.

So I understand correctly, you are saying anything touching a wall effects the wall?

Yes there are a lot of automatic features in chief to try to understand.  Wall settings can control a roof but roofs will automatically terminate a wall.

Chopsaw,

Thanks for the information.  I have a long way to go but am determined.  It sure helps to have a big monitor and some different perspectives open to see what happens - as you suggest.

      Hello,
I have run across a problem and I am having trouble figuring out the solution with energy heels. On the front porch I need a 43" energy heel, the back portion of the house I need a 18" energy heel and then the gables I need a 6'' energy heel. I manually generated the roof but was wondering the ways to determine the energy heels. Is the only way to solve this is by placing roof trusses and measuring from there? To go along with that question, I am wondering if I raise my roof planes through the Z delta (in the transform/replicate dbx) is that the same as what the energy heel would be if I were to place trusses and measure? Thanks.

Working on the plan for this existing house and they have a doorway connecting one catwalk to another but the roof pitch is steep and running 2 different directions. I've attached 2 pictures of what I need the area to actually look like in my plan.

I figured this question has been addressed many times but I couldn't find it in the forum,
I'm running into a frequent issue when creating box eaves on dormers and custom roof planes. They disappear only when the ridge is connected with an adjacent roof.
The box eaves will reappear if I separate the roof ridge line, (as shown in my attached photos),or move my roof base line Away from the wall by the desired eave distance, or when I drag the plane inside the outer wall perimeter.

If anyone else has experienced the same issue or is aware of a practical work around, I am all ears.
