I've been working on a project and all was going well with the ray trace renders. Left the computer to do a couple more overnight and all of them turned out very grainy and black and white, like the one in the attached image. I have tried to re render many times this morning. I have updated chief X9 to the most recent version, closed out and reopened the program and have retstarted my computer (macbook pro), but still having this issue. Any ideas on how I can correct this? Thanks so much

Attach the plan file and screenshots of your raytrace settings.

I have been just using the default High Quality indoor raytrace settings, just limiting the duration to 10 passes. I haven't had this issue before using these settings,

Just tried again and noticed that the ray trace seems to go as expected for the first 3-4 passes and then turns the black and white fuzzy at about pass 5. Has anyone else experienced this? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Try to update your video card drivers, looks to me like a video card problem.

The ray trace problem you're seeing is likely caused by a symbol in the plan that has bad geometry. Post the plan here or contact tech support if you'd like help tracking down the symbol. If the symbol is from one of Chief's libraries, please let us know so that it can be fixed.

Thanks so much for your replies. I've just added the plan to my original post. Hopefully someone can help me find out what the problem is?

I get the problem with any of the lights turned on. With ALL the lights turned off I get some very strange artifacts:

...still investigating.

The materials on the fridge are a problem. Looks like a model SKP model. I changed that and those artifacts have gone away.

Thanks for trying to help me figure this out Robert @rlackore. I've done many other renderings before and have never encountered this problem.

Thanks again,

Katrina

@TheKitchenAbode Changing the fridge materials seems to have solved the rendering problem. Thanks very much for the tip!

      HI All
I am ray tracing a scene with a 3D plant (from sketchup) and the shadows are showing squares rather than the actual shadow of the plant (1 pass image shown below).  I have purposely moved the sun around to cast shadows to the back of the image as I have found manually manipulating the sun gives much better RTs than using natural sun angles (at least for me).  I attach the skp file and what the plant looks like in the object info window of CA.  Any ideas how to get rid of this square shadow?  I uncheck the ray casted shadows in camera tool pre-ray trace, and it looks better but still ray traces with the square shadow.
      Thanks in advance,
      melissa

Instead of spending hours searching, I prefer to do this. My apologizes.

I've designed homes in previous versions of CA. All the way back to 4. Well, computer HD crashed a while back and nearly lost everything. After new HD, installation of CA 12 w/bonus materials, its back to normal. However...

When I render anything in any of the 6 houses in version 12 I get this alert window (see pic) telling me it can't find the files on the list. Instead of spending hours replacing each one, I would like to know if there is way to simple delete or restore them back to their default material setting, delete them altogether, anything! I can't seem to do them (delete is dimmed) either for some reason. Thanks in advance.

Using CA 12 with all bonus materials.

Can someone explain how to configure text in other than a straight line?
      Thanks for any help offered.
