Breaking Belly Band

I am following the steps in knowledge base article:  http://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00070/

I get to step 8 and can't get the Break Line to break the polyline that goes over a window.

   8. If your belly band molding goes through a door, or window, return to floor plan view.

   9.  In floor plan, select the Molding, then use the Break Line cadbreak.png edit tool to place a break on either side of the door, or window, opening.

   10. Select the segment and click on the Open Object open.png edit tool to display the Molding Polyline Specification dialog again.

What am I doing wrong?  I even tried to place the break on the wall to no avail.  Once I can get the break line to work, the rest seems pretty easy to understand; time will tell.

I'm still using X4...I know I need to upgrade; I will after I finish my current project.  File is attached.

Thx for your assistance.  Tim

I was able to play with the Break Line tool and got it to work.  I'm still not sure what I did to make it work.  I just double clicked the edge of the area I wanted to remove; sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn't.  It took several hours to remove the bands from in front of the windows on the front of the house.  I got frustrated and just removed the Poly-line for the rest of the house.

I would have expected it would work like the Break Wall tool, but it didn't.  I wish there was a better explanation as to how the tool worked.

Plus, I'd like to know if I could have multiple poly lines...I'll contact support to ask.

Thanks for your help.

The Break line Tool has TWO applications  depending on your needs.....

single click the icon to break (bend/move) a line but both are still attached to each other

double click the icon to completely break the line ,ie so you can move a piece away or delete it.

and don't click on anything in between or you will "lose" the break you made and have to redo it...

And yes it can be frustrating to use at times ( zoom right in) , be nice if it had a sticky button like the copy paste Tool

FYI -- when polylines or moldings are next to structures, as they are almost always are, the are near impossible to select. so basically the beak tool can't find its target and is generally hit and miss. To solve that, copy/create a new layer set with everything locked except the cad layer or molding layer. Then the break tool will always find its target.
