I have several mulled windows and I set their labels to Show Component Labels. Window W22 is a mulled unit and has a single label in plan yet in the window schedule it is designated a Triple 24 60. Windows W18, W19, & W20 are mulled and their label in plan is W18 W19 W20 yet in the schedule it is designated as three separate windows. I'm not sure why this is but I would like my mulled windows to have a WXX label in plan and in the schedule show as a Triple XX XX. Any idea how I can do that? Thanks Alan

I believe I-Joist is an option in the structural dbx. Alan

In my plan I was referring to the temporary dimension not the auto dimension. In the screen shot I was changing one dimension in a two dimension string first from outside wall to window -- second from window to insure wall. Not sure if that makes any difference though. Alan I need to check that. Alan

Michael Here it is (well a test plan into which I copied over some walls etc). Look at the window in the RH wall toward the top. I set the dimension to a x'-x1/16" yet it shows as x'-x½". If you change it to say 13/16" it rounds up to a whole inch. Alan Test.plan

I remember well (even though it was close to fifty something years ago) when I was working in the drawing office of a forgings company back in England -- we used tee squares, triangles, compasses and french curves to draw the components on linen in pencil then use ink pens and ink compasses to finish up. I do not miss those days. You could erase quite a few times before the coating on the linen got a little too thin. Then there were the huge drawing filing cabinets that took up so much space. I think that if you are planning a new house layout then using paper and pencil to get close to the desired layout is perfectly fine. I haven't delved into the options in CA to do space planning but it's sort of the same thing. Just my two cents worth (and chance to reminisce) Alan

Yes mine are set to that but look at the screen shot -- I changed the dimension to 3'-3 1/16" yet it shows 3'-3½". It should be 3'-3" as 1/16" is closest to that than 3'-3½" If I change it to 3'-3 13/16" it shows as 3'-4" as it should. Alan

I have my ¼" Scale Dimensions set for the Closest Fraction Reduced Fraction as well as smallest fraction is ½". If I select a window to move it and the temporary dimension is 2'-8½" and I click on it to resize, it says 2'-8.062. I even set the dimension to 2'-8 1/16 but it still says 2'-8½" when I hit Enter. Shouldn't it change to 2'-0" as the nearest fraction? Thanks Alan

I purchased HD Pro and really like its functionality but as soon as my contractor started giving me more work I switched to CA Premier as it gives me a lot more options including having multiple layout pages. I got the $500 discount for upgrading. I'm urging my contractor to get the basic program as he lays out the houses on some cheap CAD software that takes time to convert. Alan

I went ahead and put all my details in a single plan on Level One. I set the scale to ¼". I found out that I can send individual details to my layout by selecting Current Screen. That will save me having to figure out the name of the CAD Detail and then opening it. If I need to, I can rescale the detail once it's in the layout. Also if I need to modify it I can copy the block, explode it and give it another name. I think this will be more productive than dragging details from my User Library. Alan

Joe One thing that I discovered the other day was the ability to change the scale of the insert by right clicking on its "box". I had been using the Transform tool. I guess right now as I don't have a ton of details I'll keep them all in my Template Plan as CAD Details together with my notes. As it expands I'll move them to a separate Plan. Thanks Alan

So putting them in different plans is "better" than putting them as individual CAD Details in one plan? Seems easier to have one plan open rather than having multiple plans that you have to hop back and forth between. I guess horses for courses. Alan

David I had a similar issue that you fixed at the beginning of the video. As it happens that item on my wall that looks exactly like what you were seeing was in fact a stud on the end of an interior wall that butted up against the outside wall. I went into the plan and pulled that internal wall away from the outside wall and it made the anomaly disappear. So for an elevation I did that so it looked clean and when I went to print the second floor plan I just put the end of the wall back where it belonged. Alan

Michael I used to have each CAD block in a separate plan and then sent them to my current layout. I guess I could go back to that. Is there any advantage in putting them in a single plan as CAD Details? Thanks Alan

Just go with a Mac -- so much better than a Windows machine. Purchased my first Mac in 2008 with an iPhone then a Mac Pro then a MacBook Air and have never missed Windoes since. Alan

I have several CAD blocks in my library, for instance one for an 8"CMU foundation wall with a brick veneer. I can add this to my plan as needed. However if I need to change something and then replace the original in my library with it I just give it the same name and I get a message box that asks if I want to replace all copies of this block with the one I just modified. I click on YES bit it doesn't -- the block in my library is the original unmodified one. Is this a known bug or just in my plan? Thanks Alan

Thanks Michael but it doesn't really save any time by saving the elevation cameras as one click will add them automatically in a new plan. Alan
