I have been playing around with the automatic framing tools and horizontal framing recently to see how close to the way we build pole barns in Michigan I can get. One thing I have recently discovered if you... + Draw your walls on floor 1 + Set your wall girt layer to be in the exterior wall layers area + Set extension to be -4" for the wall girt layer + Set the bottom run elevation for the horizontal framing to be -2 1/4" It will place the first row of wall girts starting at the bottom edge of your concrete. This is assuming you are using 2 X 4 wall girts and have a 4" thick concrete slab. I was then able to modify the first row of wall girts in a 3D view to mimic a 2 X 8 treated grade board around my building.

I always have the wall wrap and steel siding layers as exterior layers. The wall girt Layer and post layer are my main layers.

3d Connections Devices - Configuration File
ComputerMaster86 replied to ComputerMaster86's topic in Symbols and Content
Now keep in mind this was tailored to my personal work flow and is actively a work in progress. It's also tied to Chief Architect Premier X15. It may not work with other versions of Chief Architect. As time goes on, I will likely be revising some of the radial menus. I plan on adding more radial menus and macros that are tied to Chief Architect tools and functions. If you are able to access the radial menus, feel free to change and tailor this to your own work flow and needs. -
3d Connections Devices - Configuration File
ComputerMaster86 replied to ComputerMaster86's topic in Symbols and Content
If you load my configuration file, it should load the radial menus I have created. That is assuming you have a 3DConnections device. Once loaded, you may have to map the radial menus to the buttons on your own device. In some instances it may override your device and it's existing settings. That is if you have the same device as me. Currently, I have the following... 3D Connections + CAD Mouse Compact (Corded) + 3D Space Mouse 3Compact (Corded) + Keyboard Pro + Numpad Pro (Comes with the Keyboard or Sold Separately) -
3d Connections Devices - Configuration File

It does take a little finagling to get the radial menus to load but, once loaded, you should be able to pin those radial menus to the buttons on your device. -
To anybody that is interested, I am giving access to my revised configuration file for the 3D Connection devices and Chief Architect X15. Keep in mind this is a work in progress. Chief X15.zip

I invested in a ibypower desktop for around $2,400 to $2,600 about a year ago. Windows 10 Professional 64-bit Edition Intel Core i7-10700K @ 3.8 Ghz, 8-Core 16-Thread CPU 16 GB DDR4-3000 Mhz RAM 512 GB m.2 NVME SSD nVidia GeForce RTX 3060 Ti with 8 GB of GDDR6 RAM I have since increased the ram to 32 GB's. I also have purchased a Samsung Pro 970 1 TB M.2 NVME SSD. I never got around to installing the new drive / cloning the old drive.

I once post on a similar but related topic. I think whenever we are presented with an option to select a material we should always get an option to select a material default category. Secondly, I have always wanted the ability to modify the Material Default Categories list just like we are able for the room types. Implementing this would likely fix the OP's issue an complaint.

I have added (saved) a bunch of Door / Window items to my "User Library" that includes a variety of information already typed out in the object information text boxes. However, I am noticing it is not keeping (saving) what I have typed for "Manufacturer" I keep losing this "Manufacturer" information. I have sent this in as a bug.

Webinar video for X15 available to view yet ?
ComputerMaster86 replied to mthd97's topic in General Q & A
If you click on the link and register, it will allow when to view the recording. -
A tool won't activate if your not on a screen that allows the tool activate or have a dialogue box open or maybe even another tool open.

For Chief Architect X15, I only have created 5 radial menus at this point in time. I haven't got around to creating anymore but, will at some point in the future. I have recently starting using the 3D connections keyboard and have been using the 3D Connexion SpaceMouse Compact and their CAD Mouse. I don't have any experience with using the Space Mouse Pro or Space Mouse Enterprise.

Where do you store your created wall types?
ComputerMaster86 replied to vikiw_bend's topic in General Q & A
I have mine stored in the wall type definition's dialogue box and saved as a part of my template file. Everytime I open my template file I have all my wall-types handy. You can export your wall-types using the export function and then save as a DAT file. Then in your new template file you can import by selecting the file you previously saved. -
I actually signed up to see the webinar but ended up missing it because of work, I have yet receive a link to the replay. Their e-mail links to the what's new page but, not the actual video replay of the webinar.

My 3D Connections configuration file for X15 is attached below if it is of any assistance to you. I think one can use the file to import the radial menus I created and link to buttons on their 3D connections device. Chief X15.zip

Here is an example of a radial menu I created for walls. It takes a little bit of time to set these up. These all incorporate the "Alt" key and navigating the drop-down menus via the keyboard.
-
Here is pictures of the actual macro.
-
My macro for Exterior Walls is this... Corresponds to the underlined portion of text when pressing "Alt" and navigating the drop-down menus with the keyboard. Alt + B (Build Dropdown Menu) W (Wall Sub-Menu) E (Straight Exterior Wall) Image Icon Files can be found in the folder... You can manually add (link) them to your macro. C:\Program Files\Chief Architect\Chief Architect Premier X15\resources\buttons

Ruby Macros - Referencing Custom Object Filed
ComputerMaster86 replied to ComputerMaster86's topic in General Q & A
I figured it out. I was using the wrong bracket. color = owner.custom_fields["Panel - Color"] Originally I was trying to use... color = owner.custom_fields{"Panel - Color"} Thank You- 1 reply

If owner.component_code references the "Code" data field under object information, what would use to reference a custom object field? I have custom object field named "Panel - Color" Can I even reference a custom object filed. This is in regards to Ruby script / Ruby code.

Auto Story Pole Dimensions - Issue
ComputerMaster86 replied to ComputerMaster86's topic in General Q & A
Thank You, Thank You, Thank You! You are a life saver. I was beginning to think it couldn't be done. -
I started to draw my first floor (main level) floor plans on the 2nd level. A lot of chief users do this to reserve the 1st level for an actual basement and the foundation level for the foundation walls supporting the basement walls. Is there any way to adjust or manipulate the elevation dimensions (call-outs) so they reference the second level being at 0?
