  1. I'm having the same problem. I find if I close out CA and then reopen it the program is okay and working correctly, It seems the start to happen after the program is running for a couple of hours. What's so strange is that it may work on one wall or door and the dimensioned wall right beside it or even in the same dimension string it will not work. It definitely has to be a bug. It started doing this just since I've updated a couple of days ago. I'm sort of glad to hear someone else has noticed the same problem.
  2. Once the window is highlighted click on the components dbx. in the bottom left.
  3. I'm pretty sure it's always been this way. At least since v10.08 (2006).
  4. That's a little unusual for someone to just have around. It isn't difficult to build---just time consuming. You can get a couple of hours to half a day or more into it. Just depends on the detail you want, but it can be easily be completed in CA. Is that picture for a new house or is it from an 1860/70's Italianate?
  5. This is in vector view---correct? I believe once you send the view to layout the framing won't show. I know it can be annoying. I usually just turn off those layers if possible in the view I'm looking at if possible. I'll be very happy if someone comes on and says there is a way to fix this.
  6. In the roof dbx. of the new roof set the fascia hgt. and the ridge hgt. the same as the original roof. Then the pitch will be changed by the program.
  7. Not enough "squeaks" to grease the wheel.
  8. Make a molding profile of the window stool (sill) and the crown molding profile underneath all as one unit. Then add it to the library. In the sill dbx. add that molding as the custom sill. Check wrap and extend to the measurement you want. Make sure you have the "apron" dbx. unchecked. The only problem when doing this is that CA puts the new profile below the frame and not where the apron should be positioned. A downfall with the program, but that's another story.
  9. Joey...Thanks for the advice. That looks like the best way to deal with it. I wonder what determines the "Living Area" label position? Something somewhere must.
  10. Is there a setting dbx. that I can change to reposition the "Living Area" label? It's right in the middle of my dimensions. I've moved it, then locked room labels, then made a couple of changes in the plan and it's back again to the old spot. I don't want to "turn it off" because it is part of room labels and I want them displayed. There is surely a way to work around this or a dbx. I'm missing. There should be a way for each floor to adjust this due to the fact that for each for it may have to be in a different position.
  11. The way I do it is to use a p-solid, but you have to "fudge" the door height so the CA door sill doesn't show. For years many have been asking CA to have more control over both door and window sills. I've been asking since version 10 (2006), but I know it was being asked for before that.Whenever a new version comes out the first thing I look at is to see if or what improvements were made to doors and windows. Then I think---maybe next year. For now the best "I" can tell you is to make it look as good as you can in render/vector view and then adjust what you have too in a cad detail cross section if you need to really explain what you want. After that go to Suggestions and ask for more control with door and window sills. I've been told in round about way that CA the "squeaky wheel gets greased". SQUEAK, SQUEAK, SQUEAK!
  12. If there is no need to show the framing then a p-solid is the way to go. That's what a good framer is suppose to know how to do anyway---why confuse him.
  13. "If you do not want a soffit but you want the fascia and roof framing different materials, zero out the fascia sizes and then add a shadow board that can be used as the fascia. You can then have the two different materials." Scott....Great idea---thinking outside the box!
  14. If you want to show framing you will have to go with a ceiling plane. Now will CA do it correctly is a whole other story.
  15. Randy......That was the problem! Many thanks. I saved a call to the grandkids. Everytime I call them I have a computer question. I think half the time I call they don't answer. They are thinking---it's just Pap with another computer question. Have a great day--it's Friday.
  16. David......Thank you for the reply. I don't know what is going on. I was sure the layer sets I imported were suppose to be just added to the layer sets I already were using. I in the process of "no return". I'm rebuilding all my layer sets for this plan. I'll make sure to bring my layer sets and anno sets over into a new plan BEFORE I start to build my model next time. That or do a template. I suppose if I would be using the SAM method I would not be having this problem---right Scott? Have a great day.
  17. I'm using IE. I wonder if there is something I have to set up differently or maybe it's some kind of "blocker" I have turned on. Dang if I know. Is there anyone else out there that is having the same problem Mike and I are? I guess I'll have to call up my grandkids again.
  18. Dang it! I can never get ahead of Scott.
  19. Mike......Here is the link to the video Scott is referring to. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yT2-fDKUW2A It is way down on the list of Scott's great set of videos on youtube. I wish there was a way they could be categorized. I missed finding it twice. That's when I found the other one on Chieftutor.com
  20. Scott...Nothing shows if your put in the link. Here's the Chieftutor link. http://www.chieftalk.com/showthread.php?61955-Color-coded-framing-videos-by-dsh&highlight=COLOR+FRAMING
  21. When you import in a layerset, aren't those layers just added to the layers that you already have. I might have done a "no no". I had a plan partially finish and I imported in a "matched set" of annosets and layersets from an earlier plan. I then was going over my plan and setting my floors up with my new annosets and layer sets. There were certain items I noticed that weren't showing up on my second floor when looking at my newly transfered annoset so I opened up the layer set and I realized some of my layers were no longer showing in the new layerset. I then went to my Default layer set and the layers showed there that I was looking for. I thought that no matter what layerset you were in, all the layers are shown and the layerset your using determines which is on and which is off. . Did I import the layerset in in such a way that they were not added to my layers that were already in the plan I was working on? If that's the case, then could I just "re-import" this particular layerset? I hope I'm making this clear enough. It's been a long day.
  22. Thanks Scott....I was pretty sure there was a video, but couldn't remember where. As it ended up I was just looking in the wrong area (Youtube instead of Chieftutor) Thanks again for taking the time to do the videos. Have a great day.
  23. Scott......That only shows three things that can be changed. "General". "Post" &"Rafters". What about floor jts., rim jts. ceiling jts., sill plates?
  24. Is there a default where I can set my colors for different types of framing members? Sills, Floor jts., Ceiling jts., Rim jts. etc. I saw in one of Scott's videos where he had different framing members different colors so I'm sure there's a quick way to do this. Hey, Scott, are you listening.
