  1. In the attachment walls "A" have "No Definition" and are on a separate layer so I can turn them off in plan view later. Everything looks good from the inside of the dormer, but I'm getting the gaps on the exterior walls of the dormers (attachment 2). Since I have the same problem on each side to both dormers it must be something I'm doing wrong. I've tried many things in the process of trying to correct the problem, but it's now time I go for other advice before I do or say something I shouldn't. I just got out of the hospital for a heart attack so I don't need the aggravation. As always, any and all help is much appreciated. Thank you

  2. Greg...... I think the two work together because if the contraction distance isn't set correctly it doesn't matter if you have the "Winder" box checked.

It really looks like a BUG to me. Maybe I'm missing something. If I or someone else doesn't come up with a solution to what's causing the tread jump I'll report it tomorrow.

  3. Greg..........If I uncheck the Winders box the stairs wouldn't cut back to between the walls in the second half distance going up the stairs-------correct?

Eric.........Basically what you did is what I was thinking with a few minor differences. I would still do the railing manually and a landing for the first step because of using a volute. Did you get the same result with the problem of the top tread jutting out to the other wall at the top of the stairs when building a single set of stairs and the winders box checked?

  4.      I started an as built floor plan and ran into a problem with the stairs. I started in X9 then moved it up into X10 beta. The problem occurs in both versions. I didn't try to duplicate the problem in earlier versions so I don't know if it has always been a problem, but I don't remember having it before. If I move wall "A" 4" or more to the right and then open and close the stair dbx. the problem is gone. Another way is to leave wall "A" where it is and move wall "B" so it is not under the stairs and after opening and closing the stair dbx. the problem goes away. I've been away from the program for awhile so I'm not sure if it's something I don't have set up correctly or it's a bug. Does anyone get the same results I'm showing?

Also at area "C". Is there a way to get the handrail centered on the endwall and the outside stringer board 3/4" beyond the sheetrock on the wall? The way I think to work around this is to build two staircases. One set starting one step up from the floor (first step would be made with a landing for the "volute Tread") and going up to the area where the stairs has walls on both sides and building the railing manually. This, I think, would let me extend the width of the stairs so the string board would be 3/4" beyond the drywall. I would then start a second set of stairs to start where the first ended and go between the walls to the second floor. Is there a better way to deal with this problem? I was hoping for stair improvements in X10. I've been working with CA since 2006 and that entire time we've been asking for a "stair building work over".

  5. Mark...................I will use your solution the next time. It seems like the best way to get the job done.

Michael................Yes, positive they were p-solids. I made the second group by copying and the reversing the first group. I do believe it's a bug and will report it.

Thanks to both of you for your time and advice. Have a great day.

  6.      1. Is there a way to select multiple polyline solids at one time? This should be a no brainer (or I'm having a "senior" moment). I had to make a custom lattice panel. I decided to make it out of p-solids. In the process of making the unit I realized I could not select all the p-solids at one time, but had to select each individual p-solid one at a time. Am I missing something? If I'm not then this is another thing CA needs to add to the never ending list in revamping there cad tools. Maybe I just need more coffee.:)

         2. The process I used was to make p-solid 3/8"x1.5" and lengths of 8' and 3" spacing between them set at 45 degrees. I then did the same at 45 degrees the other direction and in front of the first angled section. This gave me the "basic" lattice panel. I then made another p-solid with a custom cutout in the center with the shape I was after. I then coped it and took this p-solid and placed it over my lattice panel for a "subtraction". When I did the "subtraction" it would only cut the p-solids going in one direction. I then made another copy of my custom shaped p-solid, overlaid it onto the lattice panel and did a "subtraction" with the opposite angled p-solids that did not cut with my first subtraction effort. They would not cut. I tried many times using various  p-solids to do a "subtraction" but could never get the second set of angled p-solids to cut. Is this also a bug or am I going abut this all wrong? Is this the usual process in making a custom lattice panel? I know there are lattice panels in the library but they were just too small for what I wanted to show. I know this is plenty "wordy", but I hope you can get an understanding of what I did.

Thanks to all in advance for your time and advice. It's always very much appreciated.

  7. Joe..................That was my problem. The last 9 months I've used the program very little due to other commitments. It's amazing all the "little" things I forgot.------Ah-h or is it my age.   Thanks for your time and have a great day.

  8. Is there a way to cover a section of a reference layer when it is being used to show parts of another floor?  I tried to use a hatch filled polyline by making it the "front group", but the ref. layer still showed. I must be missing something.

  9. Is there a place or method, other than manually, to change the joist direction of a dropped ceiling? I thought I read a thread sometime ago that it was possible, but I can't locate it. Also, is it possible to frame a regular ceiling independently of other framing? Thanks to all for your time and advice in advance.

  10. Perry...............................?  Sorry. I don't understand. Can you reference me to a training video as to what you are asking me?

Dermot............................  I do have "Post to Rail" checked. I stated in my original thread I have post (post to beam) on 12' centers, but I want newels (to the hand rail) spaced between the post on 6' centers. If I change my newel post to 6' spacing then the "post to beam" spacing changes to 6'centers. Am I missing something?

I'm posting the work study plan. Please understand, this is a "work study". There are many issues to be ironed out. Number one is the customer's ideas as to what he wants and my ideas as to what he should have and how it should look.  :)

  11.      I have a railing wall where I attached a stairs. The stairs made a opening in the wall, as it should, but the railing does not go over the newels at the opening. (attach picture)  I've been playing around with this for a while and I'm not getting anywhere. Is there a fix for this other than adding railing superimposed over the original railing and extending over the post manually?  I haven't work with the program much as of late and I'm a little "rusty", but I don't remember having this problem in earlier versions. I'm hoping there's a simple answer. If not I'll attach the "work in process" plan later.

One other question. I have my 4" railing wall set for 6x6 post every 12'. Is there some way to set a 4x4 post to the rail on 6' centers between these post? Is this also something that needs to be done manually?

  12. I was playing around with using moldings for lap siding on a wall with windows. All my molding p-lines were showing. I closed out the plan for awhile then reopened it. The molding p-lines were no longer showing in plan view. I checked my layers and the molding layer was on. I changed the line weight to 50 and the color to red thinking they might show up, but to no avail. No way to click on the molding in plan view. If I go to an elevation or camera view my moldings are there and I'm able to click on them. I went back to plan view and drew a line, changed it to a molding p-line and applied a molding. This molding p-line shows on plan view. I then closed out the plan, then reopened it.the last molding p-line I had made was still showing, but none of the earlier p-lines for the lap siding molding are still not showing. I tried the ALL ON layer set thinking maybe they were on some other layer, but they still didn't show. Has anyone else experienced this? I've attached the work study plan. If someone opens it I'm hoping you have the same problem. Thanks for your time----it's always appreciated.
