  1. I have a 12' ceiling room. I placed windows large window units on "level 0". 5a9b00c88cf36_WINDOW1.thumb.JPG.d6fefcc10eb9ee6c6c9f6d67877eeb30.JPG I then placed smaller units on "level 1" above my first windows. After placing the smaller "level 1" windows the wall (plan view) jumped in to the side of the "level 1" unit which is approx. 3" in from the "level 0" window (A)  5a9b015496de0_WINDOW2.thumb.JPG.271ff9f7859132e7b434f2b1df2d3d9d.JPG This happened on just one side of the "level 0" window opening. Is this a bug?  Also, is there a way to not show the "level 1" units and the lines shown as "B" in plan view.  I tried with putting "level 1" windows on a different layer and turning it off, but the "B" lines still remain and the wall area that moved does not change back to it's original location. Plan attached. As always all advice and time is greatly appreciated.

  2. Mick................I missed the new door swing option in X10. It is a very important detail not having the hinges attach to anything though. There is still the problem of the doors not moving in with the jamb when the jamb size is changed. 5a99a51da5b75_doorproblem.thumb.JPG.501c95727862b996cc5c01830d2802c0.JPG THAT is a real problem. Of course, how it looks in plan view doesn't help either.

  3. Eric................I suppose that will work and at this time it's an option though to get it to look correct in plan view is a pain. I sent in a report to tech support. It will be interesting as to what they say. Thanks for the time and advice.

  4. Okay, I found that before I mull the doors together I can change the jamb depth, BUT the doors do not move with the jamb. Is this a known bug or am I missing something? I'm mulling two doors together to get the center hinged patio door look or there another way to get this look?

  5. Is there a work around to make a 4 9/16" door jamb to fit in a 6" exterior wall? I want to return sheetrock into the jamb. 5a99722f38e50_doordetail.thumb.JPG.212a3069fbbb2397c600ef66a0801475.JPG  The door is a 6' patio type that is hinged on the center (which CA still hasn't addressed). You can do this with windows so you should be able to get the same look with doors if you want. Thanks in advance for your time and advice.

  6. Eric----------------Thank you for your time, advice and revised plan file. It was getting late last night after a long day. I'm not sure if I would have figured out the total problem. It is very much appreciated.

Glenn-------------Thank for that insight about the furred wall. I have no idea how that came about------------much appreciated.

    TO ALL----------Have a great day!

  7. 1.  I can't for the life of me get room "A" to close to make a bedroom on the second floor of this as built project. 5a94c49e0a28e_2NDFLR.thumb.JPG.7c35f1b8b459933d55d542bb63aea6d1.JPG  "B" is a balcony area, which I defined as a 2' high area with no ceiling or roof. I want room "A" to have a ceiling height 97 1/8". Am I going about building this wrong as being the reason room "A" won't define? ------- A better way?

    2.  In the area of "C" on the first floor 5a94c6e43914d_1STFLR.thumb.JPG.057fa789d79db86cc182d48ef798b170.JPG I want the wall to be cutout (X area) 5a94c75709d5e_WALL1.thumb.JPG.a13a838590a3646c9570b40a38468f31.JPG 5a94c789c0f70_WALL2.thumb.JPG.817a02afc782f277f0f9275ef8b2f464.JPG so the cathedral ceiling in the small room smoothly transitions into the cathedral area of the larger area. Plan in progress is attached. As always all advice/help is much appreciated.

You could also use solid subtraction to create the taper. You might have a rectangular column, or other shape.

I had started doing it that way, but man------there are a lot of steps for a tapered paneled column. The first way you describe is quicker, though still somewhat involved, I need to take time to brush up on Sketchup. Thanks again Eric for sharing. Have a great day.

  9. Eric...........To be honest I didn't realize I could make a truncated pyramid in CA, which I was trying to do with using p-solids to no avail. I understand your method completely now. I have one question about making a truncated pyramid. If I wanted one 5 1/2" square at the bottom, 4 1/2" square at the top and a height of 57 1/4", how would I arrive at those numbers other than by trial and error? The way I found the correct size was by playing with the "apex" number, which ends up being 312" with the base shape defined by the side length of 5 1/2". I derived this number by trial and error. Is there a formula for figuring this out or is "trial and error" the only method to use in CA? Thanks again for the info. It's much appreciated.

  10. Building a tapered column in CA is fairly simple using a molding, but is there a process in CA where you can build a tapered paneled column? I've been playing around with some ideas but I'm getting nowhere. Since I've found nothing in the knowledge base or a video anywhere, I'm assuming it can't be done easily in CA or maybe not at all. I know someone will say to make it in Sketchup, but I haven't worked in the program for three or four years and there will be the "relearning curve" to deal with. Thanks in advance for any and all advice.

  11. I had been away from the computer since yesterday. When I opened my screen for ChiefTalk the download was at the bottom on the screen. If my memory serves me correctly about three or four weeks ago I had the same thing occur with a download showing at the bottom of the screen in ChiefTalk and I canceled it. I'm not sure if it was the same one or not. I was curious if anyone else has had this show up and what it was about.

  12. Eric..............No reason for not using Windows 10. Just felt no need. I use Explorer for a browser.

To All...........Thank you for the input. I just hit "cancel".  I'm a long way from being any kind of "tech savvy". My approach to computers is if it comes on when I turn the computer on---GREAT! If it doesn't come on --- I call my grandchildren.  I don't know if anyone can relate to that, but it works for me. :)

  13. I made the opening using a doorway and added a pass-through on each side then mulled them together. I just realized that by unmulling the three items the problem cleared up. I'll have to look at the opening a little closer to see if I have any other problems not having them mulled. I just assumed they would have to be mulled together to look correct. I have my units set up for zero separation and no frames or casing.

  14. Is this a BUG or a setting problem? What our my options? I'm guessing as a work around I could lay a p-solid in the doorway and give it the oak material to fill the gap. Is this the best solution? I just want to make sure I'm not just doing something wrong to get this result. Thank you.

  15.  In X8 you can "stretch" cad work if you are in plan view. I use to work my 2D cad in plan view all the time before X10. There are some items that don't stretch. but it's a lot better than not being able to do it at all.

  16. The knee wall shown in the attach picture isn't allowing me to move my window into the correct position.  Is this a bug or is there a setting somewhere that will allow me to positioned the window where I want to which is basically centered over the knee wall. Thank you
