  1. One problem I am having is that poly lines (from a 3d shape) and windows etc aren't snapping to each other - so im getting edges that are apart when zoomed in. In Vectorworks we can set tolerances, and I see in CA there is something similar, but it appears that only works with some types of objects.
  2. Yes, but I have snaps on globally...it seems like some items don't have this interactive ability to use snaps..?
  3. So object snaps and references are turned on if I am working with a specific tool, but why aren't object snaps on when simply using the select objects tool? Is there a setting for this? Also on primitive shapes I can't get center line snaps to work - can I turn that on as well? I've looked in the default settings under snaps but see nothing dealing with this. Thanks! added - same goes for point-to-point tool...can I turn on object snaps when i have this tool being used?
  4. This is actually very easy to do and I think there is a video in the library on this subject. If you set the baseline of the roof plane at the elevation you need the lower wall on the rear side of the home should auto-generate to that point.
  5. Yeah these work-arounds are getting to me. Here is what it looks like when i have my floor plan correct.
  6. See at the transition of the block/concrete wall and the window wall (floor plan) - to get that to look correctly in elevation I have to leave it that way, but then floor plan isnt correct. There should be no cap between the concrete wall and the wood "post" (finished) - and in elevation/rendering it shows correct, but floor plan incorrect. The last layer of the block wall is wrapping around at the distance (as if) the wall turned 90 deg. Actually, as I talk this thru the easiest solution may be to create a new wall that doesn't have all those layers so the finish later doesn't wrap back. I will try that.
  7. ok - was able to upload file.
  8. I've seen other issues kinda like this in the past, but I dont remember seeing it on a transition like i have here. I am merging a concrete/block wall (multiple layers) with a window wall I created to basically only set my windows in. At the transition I can't get my floor plan view to look like my elevation/render view. The thin finish concrete layer is to get me by visually for now and I may detail this out differently. My issue is that my floor plan doesn't match elevations - and vice-versa if I change the other. second_version_cro1_c.zip
  9. Thanks Bill - through some trial and error I was able to control the roof the way I needed....in fact, upon seeing how it looked I decided against that approach. It was actually a skillion roof where all points of the roof had a different Z coordinate. It was the fact I made a complex design on the roof, and I couldn't identify the lines that were considered "baseline" - but through trial and error I figured it out.
  10. I'm trying to model a modern skillion roof, and when I place my perimeter around the section of the home I want the roof over - how do I control what edges represent what (baseline/ridge)?
  11. Is there a way I can edit a roof shapes edges etc post creation?...more specifically set what edges of the roof plane should be used as a baseline starting point etc?
  12. Personally, I would make a section cut detail of the window/trim sections and then reference to that section. Here is an example of a little detail I place in plans (although these are "base" versions, I typically detail out more specific information based upon plan). I've even had complex build-ups detailed in a larger scale adjacent to these.
  13. This is what I typically use - showing difference between straps and bolt HDs. I use a chart that the H.? correspond to for specifics and then references a detail showing framing for that type. I personally try to keep specific notes down to a min on my plans, since plans end up easier to read IMO, and it lessens textual based errors.
  14. There almost needs to be a "work-around" section on the forums to search for specific issues like this. I ran into a similar issue the other day, and if you dont know the secret handshake to get CA to perform you can end up stuck often.
  15. Scott - you are the expert in this typically, but the version with the "extra lines" appears to be the shadow render for that texture/material. Its as if the pattern and texture are trying to be rendered...and they dont sync up. You can also see the variation in the shingle colors etc.
  16. thanks for the video!!...that is helpful.
  17. Yep - worked perfect. I guess the connection of roof faces determines those edge types. Thanks.
  18. Thanks for the comments - and the recommend on how to do the parapet walls. What about the fact I won't have a "ridge" and my perimeter will be all leading edges of the roof?
  19. I am working through my project - slowly. Anyway, I was looking for advice on the roof. A modern house with a "flat" roof that will have some edging details. Is there any reason I would want to fuss with the roof planes, or am I fine using poly tools to create the roof shapes? My plan was to model the roof with shapes and skip the roof tools. Part of the issue is I am still designing through this plan in my mind, so messing with roof tools seems like it will be a lot of trial and error to get what I want. Thanks for any advice.
  20. So you know, I tried finding this information on my own, but couldn't see in the Chief help section a topic dealing with this tool. I did a search in the knowledge base and nothing but forum post that had limited information.
  21. Thanks I will try this right now. (added) It worked perfectly as you said. Thank you.
  22. Here is how simple the operation is in Vectorworks. <iframe width="480" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/OAeAoB4MUh0?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
  23. I'm not a fan of wasting an hour trying to simply rotate a poly solid to an existing angle I have for a wall. Every time I used the "make parallel" tool it only changes one of the line segments to the correct angle. I've done a search on "make parallel tool" in the forums, and apparently Im the only one that can't get this tool to work correctly. Here is a screen of what I want to do - rotate the poly to match the rotation of the line. Sometimes I get this error messages: Other times I get this to happen: Other times I get this: None of which I want, and I find it sad when an application can do multiple things using the same command and none of which is what the user wants. As much as I love the "auto tool" approach, I would have been long done if CA had a proper protractor and rotation tool other apps have.
  24. Thank you - I saw that in your file. My drawing is a work in progress...so its not close to what I have in my head, and I am experimenting along the way.
  25. sorry I dont fully understand (btw, thanks for your time). "not to default height on wall"? That room is supposed to be 13'-6", which is different than the rest of the home.
