Thanks Rene. Do you have time tomorrow?

THIS is exactly what they need to do. If they want to keep stairs as they have it in the app, at least they can give us part options to assemble more complex stairs. However, Scotts stairs aren't even all that complex.

Does anyone know a good place for high res textures (architectural) with associated image maps? I dont mind buying those textures, but I am having a hard time finding a good selection. Thanks!

Web Meeting-Using Chief to get to a cabinet order.
johnny replied to MarkMc's topic in General Q & A
I would love to attend! -
Thanks - yeah i think that was on in Chief but i didn't have the correct setting in Win 10 to make use of that feature. I have to two snyc'd up now and its perfect clarity.
-
I'm still running a bit slower in performance than i would like - but it is a lot better. At home i have a GTX 1060 in my laptop, and that should be more than enough to run Chief in 4k quickly.
-
Got it fixed!!! So I guess I had Win 10 icon scaling "off" which when I turned it on made everything perfect. Thank you for your reply since that made me dig further and know it was me and not Chief.

Good to know - thank you. Are you using the GTX970 with that monitor? I'll keep looking for a solution then for my situation.

I purchased on of the highest resolution monitors i've owned - a new LG that is 4k on a 32" size - 3840x2160. All my other apps look great, and its been fantastic. ...except for Chief. The UI is blurry and overall very poor performance - almost a "under-water" experience. It massively helped upping the resolution by 125%, but the UI is still oddly blurry compared to the sharp, rich, experience I get with every other app i've tried. At my office I used dual Dell 30" monitors that are called "4k" but they don't run at 3840x2160 which makes me wonder how that works. Everything at my office looks and performs fine. So does this mean Chief just isn't optimized for high end displays?...or am I doing something wrong? Again, every other app i've tried works just fine so its a bit odd to me Chief would be the only app I have an issue with. Can someone comment if they are using a real 4k display at 3840x2160 and let me know if everything is looking fine at 125%? Thanks!

How to disable the CPU graphics on laptop with Nvidia graphic card
johnny replied to OkcDesigner's topic in General Q & A
If you guys have updated to the new Win 10 version this is actually now controlled by the OS. On my laptop I was struggling to understand why I was having issues all of a sudden controlling this from Nvidia's app. Watch this video for more info....they go over the top 5 new features but they show specifically how this is now controlled by Win 10. I started using this and works like a charm. -
We are looking to hire 1 if not 2 new full time drafters. We have a good team now dealing mostly in residential, in-house architects/engineers/drafters servicing a large home builder exclusively...its just we need more drafters. If you have an interest, please message me through Chief and I can share more details.

Sometimes its not about forcing something to work, but redesigning or adjusting the structure (assuming its new construction) to be fundamentally compatible with design, egress, building sciences (flashing Glenn mentions) etc etc. That can require going backwards to move forward. To me, without spending a bunch of time on it, I think you have that situation here.

hOE TO pLACE A FLOOD LIGHT OR OHTHER LT ON A COLUMN OR EXTERIOR SOFFIT
johnny replied to Designer100's topic in General Q & A
I make a lot of my columns from Cabinets. I would suggest that, very easy and lots of control. -
Yeah, this is an older thread. It appears to me they fixed it in x10 since its now working for me as well. Perhaps the person that revived the thread is working with an older version of Chief where this was a problem. Although, I will note it was an odd bug that seemed to not be consistent (if you note the comments in the thread).

Yep - a lot of the plans start with a "base plan" as in a pre-designed plan but the changes and locations vary and plans range from a few changes to full customs. 6 Drafters, 2 architects and 2 structural engineers keeping that pipe-line going. This is a "starting" point plan example below...and then changes from there. Madrona-Sales-Sheet.pdf

We use Chief Detail system with every plan, and now completed 1200+ permit sets in the last 2 1/2 years and no issues with losing them. Our templates contain our "typical" or "standard" details so we can call them up as needed, or draw or own. Its actually one of the strong points I like about Chief....though I think it would be WAY better if there was a 3D environment in each detail as well.
-
Does anyone know on the 3D viewer if there is a way to set the default settings so HD and shadows are standard? Honestly, I dont know many computers/tablets/phones today that can't view just fine in HD, and MANY times clients don't understand that HD turns on textures....or that you can turn shadows on for better visual.

Unlike other CAD apps, in Chief nothing exists "on a layer" - it exists on a floor. Layers are designed for visual reference display settings only.
-
What about making that first riser a "landing" and shaping it how you want?
-
Id like to say that though "live" i guess works good for presentations, without Plot Lines I think the CONDocs don't look very sharp at the edges - and its a bit sloppy for the visual. I hope Chief still fixes this issue so we can use Plot Lines.

Here is a quick PDF when i cut and past into a new file and send to layout. test.pdf
-
Did you cut out the terrain and everything else? Its the size of the model or anything else in the model.
-
Its a matter of the virtual size of the terrain/building. What i remember about Michael's report on the issue is that the problem is progressive based upon size. So, i think if you cut it back down to the main section of your proposal - along with the terrain etc - you should be fine.
-
Its the SIZE of the structure/terrain that is doing this. If you shrink down to the min size you need (maybe copy the file) you might see it work correctly. Shrink the extra structure on the sides of the proposal along with the terrain and any objects far from the center.
