  1. The switch is a switch. In the library under electrical you can select a 3-way switch. You don't have to use the switches from the tool bar. The light is also from the library. Everything is fine in 3D. Only the secondary connection is a line w/ arrow. Just like on the floor below the primary connection from the switch is a connection, then a line w/ arrow to signify the connection to the floor above.

  2. It's simply a 3-Way switch from the library connected to a light from the library. The line with the arrow is simply that, a line with an arrow placed on the ELECTRICAL, CONNECTIONS layer, and a note. Nothing more than that.

  3. The work the engineer does in AutoCAD cannot be "brought back" into Chief. They do not play together like that. Best bet would be to simply give the engineer what he needs, let him create what he needs to create, and then simply add his pages to your layout set. DO NOT save his dwg over top the Chief file, you are asking for trouble.

Another option, and one that I use with my engineer, is to simply send him/her a PDF and have them redline the pages as needed and send back to me for inclusion/revision in my Chief file.

  4. Go to page 0 and find the macro that has been pasted into that layout template. Or it's on the page you are viewing. If on page 0 you won't see it, just click and drag in the that area and it will get selected. Delete it and you are all good.

  5. One very fast way is to define every room as a porch.  It will automatically give it a slab floor.

If I advised against this method any more strenuously I would pull something.

Gather yourself. Go to defaults and open the foundation default. Make sure all the defaults are correct, and turn AUTO FOUNDATIONS back on. If you have a lot of notes and things on the foundation plan, simply hold SHIFT and select everything (do this first)....now block it and CUT (cntl x). Once the foundation auto rebuilds, hit CNTL V and all your notes and things will be right back where you had them.

  6. Once again this summer, I will be offering a 2 day training session here in Indianapolis. Right now I am looking mid July, but need to secure some RSVP to know the size of space I will need, and to set the cost. I try to keep costs as low as possible, but I need to know how many.

This session will be for those that consider themselves intermediate users, and that want to take their construction documents to the next level. I will have a basic ranch on basement home plan laid out and ready to send to those that will be here. This will be geared towards those of us here in the Midwest that build on basements and crawl spaces...not much on slabs. This link is to a set of plans that I consider to be a nice set for what is required of us here in corn and bean country...

Please send RSVP to joeymdp@gmail.com with JULY_INDY as the subject and I will get moving on this. I will have this post open for 10 days, so that we can get numbers together for everyone.

This year I will add an emphasis on Anno/Layer sets to help increase your productivity.

  7. That is a good question, and one in which I would create a reference set so that the 4.5' level has it's own page...but I think we are comparing apples to oranges a little. Around here, and up North a couple hours in Michigan, we don't do single pour stuff. It's Footing one day, forms in a couple days, foundation pour in a couple more days.....

  8. I need to show those cantilever areas as well, there is even a line item in my plan check QC that reminds me to make sure I have those areas noted and dimensioned. I just prefer to click on the reference button and snap a quick CAD line to the area and turn the reference off. My plans are pretty detailed compared to many doing things around here, we just go about it in a different way.
