    HP Laptops

I'm also considering an Acer laptop. For the same price, I can get a NVidia 4gb card. Both the HP and Acer will have 8gb of system ram. I used to have an Acer back with V10 and had no problems.
  2. Has anyone recently bought a new HP laptop (NOT A DESKTOP) with a 2gb or 4gb NVidia card? If you have, do you have any problems with the HP laptop with X5 or X6? I'm starting to have problems with my HP laptop concerning an error. The error tells me that "the display adapter has stopped working but has recovered". Well not really, you have to close Chief and re-open. Sometimes you have to close using the Task Manager. It's real bad with X6. I have no problems with renders or spinning renders or doing ray-traces. I have 8gb of system ram and ray-tracing is very good. I generally get the problem when I have dbx boxes open. I can get the best dollar values with HP which is why I'm asking about HP laptops. I currently have a 1gb ATI card that has switchable graphics. I don't want switchable graphics again. I do have it set to run the ATI card ALL OF THE TIME. I can go sometimes for days with no problems but like today, this happened 3 times.
  3. I do both but as you know, you don't have to. Putting it on its own layer is actually more important so you can turn it off and lock it.
  4. Alan, what you and Perry say is correct and is what I plan to demonstrate. There is one more important step you all left out but you are correct.
  5. I'm going to do a demonstration on how to show existing walls with proposed walls for a remodeling plan at our User Meeting this evening. If you would like to sit in and/or ask questions, then email me at my address below. Our meeting starts at 6:00pm (central time) and it's free. I use GoToMeeting. Thought I might let you know incase you're still having problems doing this.
  6. There is a way to do it. I used to have a tutorial Chief file that I made and explained how to do it. I'll check tomorrow and see if I can find it.
  7. We have a free online meeting April 7, 2014 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm (Central Time). If you would like to attend, then please send me an email using my email address shown in my signature. Feel free to call me if you need more information. Sincerely,
  8. I get this too every time I open the program. Very annoying!
  9. I will ask some questions that everyone will want to know too: 1. Do you have the floor plan? 2. Do you know all the ceiling heights? 3. Are the ceiling heights the same as the roof plate heights? 4. Do you know the roof pitches? 5. Do you know the floor system thicknesses?
  10. Here is my reply from Tech Support: Hi Tommy, Thank you for bringing this to our attention. I have submitted the issue to our development staff for review and correction. John Jones Chief Architect Technical Services
  11. I got an email from someone who already sent this in to Tech Support, and they told him that they couldn't reproduce it. So I called someone else who uses chief everyday, and it happened to them too. So why is Tech Support saying they can't reproduce it? REALLY!!! Perry even implies that he gets it too. What's up with Tech Support?? I don't see the need for it to be placing unnecessary breaks on it's own. I'm going to send this in and see if I get the same response. Like I said, it doesn't do this in previous versions.
  12. In X6, if you place an exterior room molding polyline, Chief places breaks wherever you have an interior that meets an exterior wall. Why? Is this a bug? This does not happen in X5 or previous versions. Chief, can this be fixed like it worked in previous versions? I do not want it to place breaks automatically. Is there a feature that I'm missing that controls if you want it to place breaks? I'll wait to see if there is a setting I'm missing before I report it. Thanks,
  13. Just got a reply from Leanne S. from Tech Support and she said that she doesn't know if it will make it to the next update but will submit it for evaluation. This is frustrating. I use it a lot and may just stick with X5 for a while. I use it for many reasons which I don't have to explain here. This tool should work properly or at least as it did in previous versions.
  14. Thank you for the support. I was feeling kinda alone here.
  15. Thank you. I have sent this in to Tech Support.
  16. Thank you Doug. FINALLY got an answer to my question. I will submit this to Tech Support and see if it's possible to get a fix on this.
  17. You know, I could really care less if I'm the only one who uses it. I do use it and it's a tool that I like and Chief provides. I still want it to work like it did in previous versions. If you like to use other tools then I suggest you use what ever tool "floats your boat". I wish people would answer the question I asked initially about the tool in question instead of going off on another tool.
  18. I know a lot of people that don't use it and when I show them how to use it, they really like it. They didn't even know it was there. I'm going to send this in because I really like it. I just want it to work the way it always did.
  19. Joe, I have no idea why you think the plan scale macro (%scale%) us useless? I do use it on every plan I do. I have never used the "%box_scale% macro". I have been putting the plan scale macro in my plans for years. Once it's in the plan, I send it to the layout at whatever scale I need. When viewing the layout, you could always zoom in and out and see the scale change in the layout just like as if you were looking at it in plan view. When you print it or make a pdf, it shows the correct scale in the pdf from which the plan or view was sent. This has always worked in previous versions, why not X6? I'm not asking for anything new, at least in previous versions.
  20. In previous versions, if you placed a scale macro in plan view and then send the plan view to the layout, you could scroll in and out in the layout and see the scale change in the layout. In X6, you can't do that (or at least not for me). Is there a setting I'm missing? The scale changes just fine in plan view when scrolling in and out. Why not in the layout like it used to? I use this all the time. TIA,
  21. What I do is place the picture in a folder. Name the folder what you want and place it in your Chief Architect Premier Data folder under my textures. Then open the program and do a convert textures to materials. It will then place it in your User library and is ready to use.
  22. Just do a Google search and you'll find images.
  23. I have never trusted dropbox and I have to use it everyday. I have seen problems with saving and sometimes it creates "conflicted files" when saving due to having 5 computers linked to the same dropbox. As far as Scott's error message, generally, if you close Chief and Windows Explorer (if open), and then try opening again, it will. I sometimes think it's a Windows thing with that error message. Oh, When closing a file from with-in the dropbox, be sure the dropbox has finished updating. You'll see the dropbox icon spinning when it's updating.
