  1. I am trying to add dimensions to a garage foundation. This garage has 3 garage doors and one man door. I am trying to dimension to the cuts in the conc. curb for these doors. CA will not recognize the edge of these conc. curb edges no mater what dimension command I use. How do I get CA to dimension to the edges of the conc. curb cuts ? Thanks, Mike
  2. Mike, Don't worry. I know you were being helpful. I'm not a newbie to designing structures. I have been in business since 1983. Since 1993 I have been using AutoCAD. I have been slowly switching over to CA. CA does things different than AutoCAD. That's been a big re-learning curve. I'm getting there little by little. I still use AutoCAD on most of my projects. I can see that CA will be faster once I become more experienced using CA. It wasn't for you guys in Chief Talk helping others out I would have given up on CA a long time ago. Thanks, Mike
  3. I will need to add a ridge beam since the client wants as much attic space as possible. The city the project is in limits the size of the accessory living quarters to 600 s.f. and a height limit of 15'-0". He plans on living in this and renting out the main house. Thanks, Mike
  4. Thanks Robert, That worked. Thanks, Mike
  5. I just tried that. It still frames the ceiling joists at the 12' plate height.
  6. Thanks Robert. I'm confused. When you changed the ceiling heights to 8' and 10' then removed the air gap under ceiling structure everything framed correctly. But the 12' high exterior wall heights were not changed, which is what I want. My question is where is the program getting the 12' high exterior walls heights from ? How would you setup a project were the exterior walls were 12' high and the ceiling height in half of the building were 8' high and the other half was 10' high ? Thanks, Mike
  7. I'm on X-9. Sorry about the quality of the screen shoot I sent. I have attached the plan file this time. Chopsaw, you are correct. The client wants 12' high exterior walls and ceilings over the bedroom, bathroom, laundry and hall to be 8' ceiling. He wants the living room and kitchen ceilings to be 10' high. He is trying to get attic storage. The City of Thousand Oaks has a height restriction of 15' for accessory buildings. I did manually make the ceiling planes at 8' and 10' high before framing. After framing the ceiling planes disappeared and the ceiling joist were placed at the exterior wall heights. I also want the interior walls to frame up to the ceiling heights of 8' and 10'. How do I get the ceiling joists to frame at a different height than the exterior wall height ? Thanks, Mike Accessory Living Quarters-3.plan
  8. The client wants 12'-0" plate heights for the exterior walls. He want attic storage so he want the ceiling height over the bedroom, bathroom, closet and hall to be 8'-0" high. Over the living room and kitchen he want the ceiling to be 10'-0". The interior wall should stop at the ceiling planes but they continue up to 12'-0", the same as the outside walls. Also when I frame the ceiling the joists are placed at 12'-0" high. How do I get the ceiling joist to frame at the ceiling plane heights, 10'-0" and 8'-0" ? And how do I get the interior walls to stop at the ceiling planes ? Section.bmp
  9. I would have thought that there was an ability to have the exterior stairs show up on both floors since that is the way they are shown on the architectural plans. If I use a reference set to show the stairs that only show up on one floor, the entire floor plan will be displayed, not just the stairs. Thanks, Mike
  10. I have been following one of Chieftutors videos where he is adding a wrap around deck with stairs to the ground. The plan is one story with basement on a sloped lot. In the video he was on floor 0 when he added the stairs from the ground up to the first floor deck. The stairs show up only on floor 0 and not on floor 1. The stairs are on the stairs & ramp layer. On both floor 0 and floor 1 that layer is turned on, but the stairs is not displayed on floor 1. How do I get the stairs to display on both floor 0 and 1 ? Thanks, Mike
  11. Thank you for the help. How get rid of the callout in the window schedule ? I tried in the floor plan and the double arch top window do not show on the floor plans. I then went to the elevation views. They do show up in the elevation view when I explode the mulled units. I then can see the window schedule label and able to uncheck "include in schedule". Another problem is that when I re-mull the windows again the windows do not mull together correctly. The exterior trim around each window does not merge together and show as one trim around all 3 windows as they originally did. How do I get the trims around each window to merge together and show as one trim around all 3 windows ? Also, why does the window schedule callout of the mulled units not show up on the floor plans ? In this case I do not want them to show up in the window schedule since they are existing. On a project where these are new windows I will want the window schedule callouts to show up on the floor plans. Thanks, Mike
  12. I am using X-9. I am working on a small addition project. When I make the window schedule I am getting a window 1 that does not exist. It shows it as 32"x24 1/2". I do not have any such window in the plans. I have selected not to show existing window in the schedule. Even with that none of the existing windows are this size. In the addition I have 4 windows, all the same size. The schedule is calling these window 2. Window 1 callout does not show up on the floor plans so I have no idea where window 1 is coming from. I have attached the plan. Can someone take a look and see where this window is coming from. I need to get rid of this callout in the window schedule. 13. I have been working on an addition and remodel project that had to go through both an HOA approval process and city planning hearing. The room addition was the part of the project that was required to go through the above mentioned. The remodel part of the project is all interior work. After submitting the room addition plans to the HOA and city planning the client was anxious to move forward on the interior design. I saved a copy of the plans into another folder an started work on the kitchen remodel. We went through a few designs. Each time I saved to a new folder incase the client wanted to go back to a previous design. After that I worked on the master bathroom. We went through two revisions. Each time saving to a new folder. During this same time I am going back and forth with the HOA and planning department. These changes are being made on the original plans, the ones without the interior remodel. I now have the approvals from the HOA and planning. The client want kitchen design #1 and master bathroom design #2. The question I have is how do I combine these drawing into one plan ? I have the plans that were approved from the HOA and city planning that are showing the addition only. I have the kitchen remodel showing on another set of plans that does not show the master bathroom remodel. I have the master bathroom plans on the a set of plans which shows the second kitchen remodel, But client wants to go with the first kitchen remodel. Is there an easy way to combine these plans together ? The HOA and planning department information is on the site plan. The kitchen remodel in on the first floor and the master bathroom remodel are on the second floor. It would be great if I could combine each one of those plan into one final plan. Is that possible ? Thank, Mike
  14. Eric, That area with the cabinet and the enclosed space to the right are a part of the chimney. The chimney is the same width from bottom to top. They took a part of the chimney on the second floor and made it a part of the master bathroom. I need the walls of that area to extend above the roof with the rest of the chimney. I did not know how to do that if that area was included in the master bedroom so I made it into 2 separate rooms. Thanks, Mike
  15. I input an existing master bathroom that was a platform bathtub. The client wants to remove the platform bathtub and replace it with a free standing bathtub. When I removed the platform bathtub, which I used polyline solids to make the platform, I see that the baseboard molding is missing on the walls where the platform was. How do I get the baseboard molding to show on those walls ? Thanks, Mike Niami_Kitchen_Remodel_2.zip
  16. I have a small vertical piece of stucco showing up on the inside of the house. I tried redrawing the wall. That did not work. Can someone that a look at my plan and let me know how to remove the stucco from the inside of the master bathroom. Thanks, Mike Niami_Kitchen_Remodel_2.zip
  17. Thanks David, How did you keep the stucco pattern to show on the new wall only ? I selected the adjust material definition icon then selected the wall I wanted the stucco pattern to show on. I then selected material type and picked textured and 3" for spacing. This worked, but the stucco pattern shows on both the new wall and existing walls. Scott said that I need to create two different materials for the stucco. One for the existing stucco without the stucco texture and the new stucco wall with the stucco texture. I do not know how and where to do that. Perry, you said that you do not do this any more because it will create a line between the new and existing walls. How would you suggest adding a stucco pattern to the new walls only ? Thanks, Mike
  18. How do I add a stucco pattern to elevations of the addition walls only ? I do not want the existing walls to have this pattern. When I use the adjust material definitions command to add the stucco pattern to the new addition walls, all of the walls, new and existing get the stucco pattern. I have two different wall types in the plan. One is called "Stucco 4, Existing" and the other is called "Stucco 4, New". How do I add the stucco pattern to the "Stucco 4, New" walls only ? Thanks, Mike
  19. Thanks, I will try that the next time I send to the group. Mike
  20. I spoke to technical support about this the first time when I could not get back into the file I sent the group. They told me to restart the computer the computer after I sent the plan to the group. When I try to open the plan after sending it to the group I get a message that the file may be open on another computer. It's not on my end. Even it was, why would that be a problem. What if I send the plan to my engineer and he was using CA and was working on the structural plans. Is CA saying that we can not both be working on the plan at the same time. He at his office an I at my office. That can be a problem. Thanks, Mike
