Changing interior door molding on one side
capitaldesigns replied to capitaldesigns's topic in General Q & A
Thanks. I was looking under door defaults. Both solutions for this door. Thanks, Mike -
I am working on a project that has a 2 sided fireplace insert. How do I place it in the corner of a wall. I have seen videos of placing a one sided fireplace in a wall. In that video the placed a pass through opening in the wall from the windows drop down menu. They then sized the opening to the size of the fireplace insert. How do you make the corner openings in the walls for the 2 sided corner fireplace ? Thanks, Mike

I am entering a house that I measure last week. The toilet room in the master bathroom has a 45 degree wall with a 2'-4"x6'-8" door. The interior dimension of the 45 degree wall is 2'-10". CA will not let me insert the 2'-4" door into this wall. It reduces the size of the door down to 2'-0" wide. The only way I can place the 2'-4" wide door in this wall is to reduce the casing down to 1.5" wide. The problem is that when I reduce the casing it does it on both side of the door. Is there a way to have the casings on one side of the door be different size than the other side like we can do with exterior doors ? I measured 3.5" distance from the edge of the casing next to the door opening to the corner of the 45 degree wall. Why will CA not let me have a 3" casing since there is 3.5" of wall to attach the casing ? One last unrelated question. I just viewed a video that Alaskan Son did regarding making custom columns. Is there a way to tag these videos and/or topics for future reference ? Thanks, Mike

I have a sliding barn style door in one of my projects. Its not a pocket door but it does slide on a rail attached to the side of the wall. I used the doorway command to create the opening. I manually drew the door in the open position since I could not find a similar door in CA. How do I get this door to show up in the door schedule ? Is there a way to add an extra line in the door schedule so I can manually type it in ? Thanks, Mike

Inserting CAD details into layout page to big
capitaldesigns replied to capitaldesigns's topic in General Q & A
I know what you mean when it comes to converting AutoCAD details to CA details. I spent a day and a half converting 22 details I drew in AutoCAD to CA details. CA does not give to many tools to help make this process easier and quicker. I have 4 more details I have to covert tonight and several hundred to go. Does anyone know why CA will not incorporate some of the CAD tools AutoCAD has in its program ? I just found out today from tech. support that you can stretch the building but you can not stretch a CAD detail. So if I had a partial wall section and needed to stretch it up to make it a 10'-0" wall from an 8'-0" high wall I can not to that according to tech. support. AutoCAD has had the stretch command since the 80s. Its a very handy tool and I use it all the time in AutoCAD. You would think this would be much easier to program stretching a wall section detail v. stretching the entire building. Thanks, Mike -
Inserting CAD details into layout page to big
capitaldesigns replied to capitaldesigns's topic in General Q & A
Thanks for the info. I like the idea of inserting the details directly into the layout sheet. It would cut down extra steps of first inserting them into plan or detail management then sending them to the layout sheet. To make sure I get this correctly, if I insert the detail directly into the layout sheet then rescale to the correct size, then save it back to the user lib. After that when I insert that detail into a layout sheet it will come in at the correct size as saved from the layout page. Is this correct ? Thanks, Mike -
I have been inserting my details into the layout page. They are coming in at least 10 time larger than the title block. It does not matter if I drew the detail in the plan or in CAD detail management they all come into the layout page way to large. I also tried one of CA pre-drawn details and get the same results. Is this normal ? Is there a way to have them inserted at the right scale without having to rescale each detail one at a time ? Thanks, Mike

X8. I will upgrade sometime this week. -
Line with arrow and text line with arrow problem
capitaldesigns replied to capitaldesigns's topic in General Q & A
It's still happening. I was able to get 3 text lines with arrow correctly before it started again. I saved everything and closed the program then restarted it up again. I was able to get one two segment line with arrow before it started placing two arrows again. I guess I will have to call tech. support tomorrow morning. Thanks, Mike -
Line with arrow and text line with arrow problem
capitaldesigns replied to capitaldesigns's topic in General Q & A
I just check, It is not toggled off. I just found out that if I draw a few straight lines with arrow then draw one with two segments the problem goes away. I do not know if the problem will come back again. I will let you know in a little while. I am in the process of converting hundred's of details I have drawn in AutoCAD over the last 23 years. I will be using a lot of line with arrows since most of the AutoCAD arrows did not convert over to CA arrows. Thanks, Mike -
I am having a problem with both the line with arrow and text line with arrow command. I am getting two arrows. When I make a turn in the line with arrow I get two arrows, one at the turn and one at the end of the line. This has been happening the last couple of days. It never happened before. Does anyone know how to fix this so I only get an arrow at the end of the line. Thanks, Mike

Editting text imported from AutoCAD
capitaldesigns replied to capitaldesigns's topic in General Q & A
I says it's rich text. -
I am importing notes from AutoCAD that I have accumulated over the years. The notes come into CA as single lines text and not as a paragraph. They coming in at a text size of 21/128". I want to be 4.5" in a 1"=1/4" scale. Is there a way to do is at one time ? When I group select them, I do not have the option to change the text size. Thanks, Mike

cursor move very slow in the layout page
capitaldesigns replied to capitaldesigns's topic in General Q & A
No PDF's. I also noticed that when I zoom in to a smaller part of the plan the cursor moves much more smoothly than when I am zoomed out. -
I have sent part of a small one story addition to the layout page. When I move the cursor around the page it is jumping and not moving smoothly. The only things that are on this page are the floor plan of the addition (not the whole house), electrical schedule, cabinet schedule, fixture schedule, and notes. When I switch to a plank sheet in the layout the cursor moves freely. There is not allot of stuff on this page. I have never had tis problem on other projects. How would I go about finding out why the cursor is jumping around so much on this layout page. Thanks, Mike

How do I get the line with arrow to automatically be placed on its own layer ? I finished a floor plan where I have a number of notes and lines with arrow pointing to the items the note refers to. When I change to the framing layer set those arrows appear. I want those lines with arrow to show up on the floor plans. I will also be using the line with arrow on the framing layer set as well. I want those line with arrow to only show up on the framing layer set. I looked at the annotation sets and see there is no option to have the line with arrow on a predefined layer such as "line with arrow-framing" or "line with arrow-floor plan". Do I have to create these layers and remember to change to the appropriate layer every time I draw a line with arrow ? Thanks, Mike

Turning off line that represents garage door as open
capitaldesigns replied to capitaldesigns's topic in General Q & A
What I did is put the garage door on it's own layer and then turned that layer off. This way the other doors will not be turned off when I turn off the garage door. You know what would be great for us newer users is if a long term CA user with a lot of experience put together a training video incorporating all of these work around solutions. I think the project should be an addition project since it would include both existing and new. The project should go over all phase of the plans. It should include site plan, floor plans, elevations, foundation plan, framing plans, section, structural details, electrical plans and schedules. This project should include as many work around solutions as possible, such as my question with the garage door. Other problems such as the best way to draw a new slab foundation to the existing slab foundation and how to have the new footings show a concrete hatch pattern and the existing footing not showing such pattern. In the footing specifications it shows the footing has a conc, hatch pattern, put in the plans it does not show up. Why ? I called tech. support and they offered no solution to this. How about the best way to show a new window that spans across a new wall and existing wall. And there in many more areas in CA that needs a work around solution to accomplish a part of the plans. When a new user comes across such an area in CA they are not sure what to do. Where do you go in the user guide or reference manual do you go to find out how to turn off the dashed line that is a part of the garage door ? You can spend a lot of time reading through the manual and finding nothing to solve your problem. I know CA has a video on the window issue, I was just giving that as an example. But there are areas they do not have a video on how to work around these issues that seem to come up all of the time. In conclusion it would be great if there was a video of a small addition project that required many of these work around solutions, so us newer users would have a good reference video to go over and over again. A video that would show us when we needed to use a work around or where to go to change something that we need to change such as the dashed line at the garage door. Thanks, Mike -

The problem with turning the door layer off is all other doors are also turned off as well. -
Turning off line that represents garage door as open
capitaldesigns replied to capitaldesigns's topic in General Q & A
The client is converting a garage into living space. They want to keep the garage door and build a parallel wall just inside of the garage door wall. The dashed line of the garage door come way inside of the new living area. I would like to have the ability to turn off the dashed line, but from what I am hearing is that CA does not give us that option. That's the nice thing about having everything on its own layer. Thanks, Mike -

capitaldesigns replied to capitaldesigns's topic in General Q & A
I have that turned off and it still shows up. -
How do I turn off the dashed line that represents the garage door in the open position on the floor plan. Is there a layer associated with this dashed line ? I can't find it. Or is there somewhere I need to go to turn it off ? Thanks, Mike

I agree that we should all push for the improvements to CA that members have submitted. Is there a way for use to get all of the interested parties email addresses so we can email each other directly with our suggestions. I am not always on the forum. But I do ready my emails everyday. Mike
