  1. On my Laptop Win 10 it worked fine and converted to WMV. No issue with the post and several views it.
  2. Dermot, Your response was concise. Is it documented the way you put it the manual or help files? Sorry, just a quick response to the thread. I have not dug into the manual or help files to investigate as it could be anywhere. Thanks,
  3. I know this is a little off the wall but is anyone using Microsoft's "Expression Encoder 4"? This is a FREE Screen recorder and works well on my laptop. However, when I installed it on my Desktop, the MIC does is not recognized. What is odd is the Mic IS recognized and works Windows 10 Pro but not in the app. I have searched all of the web and cannot find a solution. Thanks all, P.S. I know there are other products but I'm keen on getting this to work. Guess it's the challenge.
  4. Dude! You rock! I get a real kick out of watching you get bobble in your own world but that 's part of your charm as well as the complexity of Chief. With that said, I believe your method is far superior to anything else I have seen used or demonstrated thus far. Not to take away from those who have contributed, as all is appreciated. I would like to see Dede at Chief do a "Start to Finish" video series using this method for those who enjoy, or simply need, more detail to grasp a concept. BTW, "Auto Refresh All" is at the top of your Layout Tool Bar. Many Thanks from Houston where Crawfish ettouffe' is on the menu for Supper tonight. C'est Bon!
  5. Nice job Larry! Thanks for sharing your perspective on "one" of the millions of ways to use Chief. For me, that is the most frustrating part. Show the how to do it and I can learn it but when there are a zillion ways do the same thing I become overwhelmed quickly. Until recently I have been hit and miss with design work but now I'm all in and have the time to focus on developing a method. Chief is not something you just load on you pc and start building great plans...well actually I did but now realize I have a lot of garbage from making "This will do for now decisions". To be proficient and anything I have to immerse myself or it simply won't stick. Don't know if there are others like me out there but for me I am glad to have you guys to call upon for help and support. Thanks to all those who give back what they have learned!
  6. Joe, I'm cleaning up my template and noticed you said " I utilize a "Clean Layers" Layer Set to make it easy to clean up the project". Would you mind elaborating further on your method? I also keep the following CAD Detail Management data in my template. My "CAD DETAIL NOTES" (inside the "CAD DETAIL MGNT") is organized in such a way that I can add or subtract from the verbiage as required and it still fits nicely on the Layout. Each section can be edited individually.
  7. Time to change the profile pic. This one is more my speed. God, I love this little girl!

  8. Thanks guys. Perhaps this will be corrected in the next release with some options on how you want to calculate.
  9. I hope you're felling better these days. Thanks for the comments, and constructive criticism of my rant. 1) - Already available through deactivate/active. Getting CA to separate Pheobe(The internal RT engine) from the core software might be nice--some day. "I am aware of and use this feature when I move from Desktop to Laptop. However. this feature does not solve my issue" 2) - Export to... well, this usually involves v-ray and Adobe Premiere Pro CC; maybe some After Effects thrown in. Seriously, at what point do you say I need to hire a professional? Either that or go with the "realism" provided by Lumion. How real do you want to get? Who's your audience? "I am experimenting (Learning) Lumion 6 Pro. Cool stuff and amazingly intuitive. Like most folk I want it as real as possible. My prospects and clients love the 3D and the more realistic it is the greater reflection on CA's software. I guess, too, it's my feeble attempt at perfection." 3) - Already exists within CAX8 "As cheap as 3D Printers have become, I would love to use this feature for more presentation work but I have seen very little discussed about this feature. What models I have seen are underwhelming." 4) - Um... "Disregard" 5) - Not sure I understand the collaboration part. Are you interested in Thea/V-Ray/Maxwell training? Or, do you want to look over an Archvis artist's shoulder while they do the magic? (Good luck with that) "Since we cannot run two sessions of CA under one license, I'm looking for tools that import Camera views for RayTracing with as shallow a learning curve as possible. I dabbled in 3D Max, Maya and LightWave3D years ago and quickly realized all have a steep the learning curve." I am committed to CA and appreciate this wonderful community of professionals, like yourself, who are always willing to share their wisdom, insight and lessons learned.
  10. For me, a quality 3D RT image is my biggest selling tool. Of course accurate plans and modeling are the backbone of what we do, most clients become lost in the 2D details of construction drawings. Rambling thoughts.... 1) I would like to use my license on a 2nd machine, even if only for viewing and rendering of Stills and 3D Walk-through) would be great 2) Ability to create 3D Raytraced Walk-Through 3) Ability to Send my model to a 3D Printer. 4) Model integration with Lumion 6.0 and higher 5)External RTE collaboration. Graham, thanks for indulging me in this thread. You're much more experienced at Chief than I am and thus your views and perspectives are greatly appreciated.
  11. Anyone have experience using POV-RAY? Curious as to how it compares to C.A.'s built-in RayTracing Engine. It is referenced in the HELP file as an alternative RTE (Ray Trace Engine). Why would this be of interest? Well, if I can run POV-RAY on my Dual XEON and simply import a series of camera shots to Render, by queuing them up, I have essentially solved my Render Farm problem. My apologies for not checking to see if there is a separate thread for this topic.
  12. Graham, Where is the Quercus Pyrenaica outside the bathroom window? When I open the default plan and position my camera in the room, it does not look like yours.
  13. "As per CA settings"....not sure where I would find those. The only way we will ever compare actual performance is to share the file and settings. If you are referring to the post I made last year, and those setting, I can that but to understand how you achieved your last pic, please post your settings. thanks
  14. Originally, yes. I thinned it out of the non-essential data and made my own adjustments to the lighting. I supplied the files, lighting data and my preference settings so all would be on the same page.
  15. Okay, Here is what I have so far. File: RiverstoneMB2 (Attached) Preferences of my System:(Attached) 1) Render 2) RayTrace 3) VideoCard Status Detail: All non-essential data has been removed from the plan file. All you will see is the Bathroom area 1) Open and use 1/4 Scale Annotation Set | Electrical Layer Set 2) Select and Open RayTrace Camera (see attached) You will see plan view and RayTrace Settings Screen 3) Select EDIT and Verify "General Tab Settings" are adjusted to the data provided. (Use File path of choice). 4) Select and Verify "Lighting Tab Settings" are adjusted to the data provided. 5) Select and Verify "Advanced Tab Settings" are adjusted to the data provided. 6) Select and Verify "Image Propertied Tab Settings" are adjusted to the data provided. 7) Select "Save and Close" then re-open and Render Camera and post Screen Shot with TImeline. Note: I am rendering as I write with Several programs open so times may very. For me, the whole point is to secure respectable RayTrace times while still using my machine for other duties. I actually ran AIDA64 BURNIN Test at 100% CPU usage last night and it had little to no affect on the RayTrace time. Anyway, I hope those who care, and or are interested, find this helpful Let me know if I have missed anything of importance. Cheers, Benchmark.zip
  16. I DL'd the Bath but there was no exterior scene. Send me the link to the file you are referring to and I will run it and post the results. Hey! and BTW, keep that dang cold weather in Canada will ya! We got our first cold snap last night down here on Galveston Island. Geez! It 54 degrees herel Man, that is too fricking cold for flipflops. HEHEHEHEHE! Cheers to my brother from the great North!
  17. Yes it is! Check out the video. Video quality is poor because I had to compress it from 222MB to below 25MB for the upload but you will get the idea. Now I can experiment with all sorts of Raytracing idea without having to wait for quality images to appear. Riverstone_Raytrace_Dual_Xeon_E5-2683_v3.mp4
  18. Graham, I am completely BLOWN away! I just completed the upgrade and ran the "Riverstone" bath we used earlier. The E5-2683 v3 CPU's (Total cost for both $675 USD) is amazing. 14 CORES | 28 Threads (56 CORES used to RAYTRACE). See attached. Anyone need quick RayTracing? Send me your plan.
  19. Johnny, I am not familiar with the FREE APPS you mentioned. Also, I should have been clearer. I want to send send Camera shots to RAYTRACE. I'm not going to purchase a second license just for rendering. Has anyone had experience with third party software? Thanks,
  20. OK, I know this is a bit strange but here goes. With the winter upon us, I will be working in town at my apartment but have my DUAL Xeon WS at another location. Is it possible to use the XEON as a remote Render Farm while I work on plans and details at my apartment on a Laptop? Here is what I would like to do. * Be able to run and control my XEON system remotely from town. I would connect to it remotely, Run X8 or X7, transfer the files to render. I would need to connect to the XEON remotely with my Laptop with some kind of software and be able to transfer files (share across a private network so to speak) and control the XEON to be able to open files and start the renders. I currently use X8 for design but could I run X7 on the XEON and open the X8 files and render? I have licenses for both. My hope is someone on this forum has done such a configuration and would be willing to offer advise. Thanks all,
  21. Doug, If I upgrade my XEON E5 -2620 v3 (6 core cpu) (CPU MARK 15856) DUAL CPU system with 32 GBs of ECC 2133 RAM to a XEON E5-2683 v3 (14 core cpu) (CPU MARK 22475) will I need to increase the ram to 64GB in order to fully utilize the higher core count on rendering. Another interesting POV, according to the Passmark Chart, is the XEON E5-2670 (12 core cpu) (CPU MARK 22330). It has nearly the same CPU MARK as the 2683 v3 CPU in a DUAL configuration. In case you're wondering...I hate waiting on rendering. Thanks,
  22. Sorry, the signatures don't show on the mobile. Thanks
