  1. Graham, Thanks for the information. I am reviewing an earlier contract prepared by my attorney when I was engaged in a commercial project last year; which incidentally, the client refused to sign and thus I terminated the work performed up to that point. Since my focus is now only residential, Inwant to simplfy the document.
  2. So far I have not worked directly with builders. I do have an attorney reviewing and suggesting verbiage but as is typical they get very wordy and thus tryout to simplfy the contract. The may point is "Hold harmless clause". All my designs for the following process. 1) design accepted by the owner. 2) design submitted by owner to ARC 3) design submitted to Windstorm engineering firm for them to prepare, foundation, shear walls, truss loading, etc 4) design makes whatever adjustments to the plan requested by ARC and or Engineer. 6) builder selected buy owner 7) design and Engineering doc submitted to local and state authorities for permit approval by builder Note: I base my fees on sq ft / package and provide all revisions up to the point where working drawings are finalized for permitting. After that point and changes are based on an hourly fee.
  3. Right, and I have attempted to edit the X8.ini file to redirect the program to a different drive. Once saved and all the files are moved to the respective locations I specified, I restart X8. When I checked the "All Program Paths" I side X8 is stills shows the old (original locations) and not the new ones. Will call tech support Monday. Never thought I would see the day when 128GB is not enough storage for an OS and a few programs.
  4. Question: If your contract clearly states, and is signed by the client, that the plans provided are solely for the purpose of design realization, General guidelines for construction contractor, governing authorities, structural engineers, et al, and does not provide assurance outside this scope. Designer is held harmless for actual fit and function as these respective results are outside his/her control.
  5. Will do. THanks again Dermot and all the CA Gurus!
  6. Can the Program Paths be customized? I don't want anything stored on my "C" (boot and OS) drive. I installed the program on my 2 TB drive, which is my "G:" drive, and all other X8 related Program Paths data to go to my SSD "E:" drive. I can't have these other files on "C" because it is too small and thus I only want it to support the OS. Can I relocate these files and folders and correct the Paths in the X8.ini file? Thanks,
  7. Dermot, Steps to resolve X8 not starting... Ensure X8 plans and Archives are stored in a safe place Search "This PC" and renaming everything that contains "Chief Architect Premier X8" to "Orig_Chief Architect Premier X8" Re-Read the "chief-architect-x8-download-and-installation-instructions.pdf" & "chief-architect-x8-migration-guide.pdf" Run the install version 18.1.0.41-Win64 Path: G:\Program Files\Chief Architect\Chief Architect Premier X8 (64 bit)\ (my SSD Drive) Install all necessary support files Entered my License Eureka! It works now. Downloaded Catalog completed with errors. (Not sure how to determine what the error is. Help? Going to make sure my filing system is congruent with CA recommendations.
  8. I am attempting to launch X8 from the shortcut and not the plan file. X8 will not boot period. only thing that happens is the DBX Assertion Failed comes up and I hit abort. Uninstalled and reinstalled "Chief_Architect_Premier-18.1.0.41-Win64" with same results. What next? Feel free to call 832-677-7001
  9. Oh! I also tried to open the X8 plan in X7 and it would not work. No backwards compatibility? Ouch!
  10. Guys, Thanks again for all your support. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling and received the same error DBX when attempting to start X8. The version I used to install is "Chief_Architect_Premier-18.1.0.41-Win64". What was interesting when I attempted the reinstall was it did not ask me where I wanted to install X8. Also, is there a way to ensure ALL associated files with X8 are deleted from my PC (I've already safely stored my X8 plans), so I can get a true "Fresh" install? Thanks again,
  11. Hello gang! After many months I am back to drawing again. Feels like starting over sometimes especially when the errors and crashes start. After renewing my SSA and switching to X8, I began preparing a plan portfolio in Layout. Using various Annotation & Layer Sets along with Cameras, "Sent to Layout" the shots. That is when the "Assertion Failed" DBX reared is ugly head (See Attached). I thought by saving the camera under the same name as the image (i.e. Exterior Perspective - North Side) and allowing X8 to auto update the image whenever I made changes to the plan would be a cool way to keep my data current. After experiencing the DBX several times, and hitting the ABORT button, X8 will not start. Only the attached BDX comes up. Any ideas? X7 still works so I hope to continue working there until this issue is resolved. System Dual Xeon 24 Threads 32 GM Ram 2 TB SSD Drive NVideo 980 4 - 24" ASUS HDMI Monitors Thank everyone! 12. Assertion Failed X8 will not start now!

  13. Would you guys view the attached and let me know what you think the issue is with the Truss tails and Fascia boards? Thanks, Roof Truss Question 1.zip
  14. That did too! You're the Man Perry! Thanks
  15. Okay, similar but different issue. Attic walls not completing (See attached video) inside Chapel. I am trying to be ever vigilant when moving or changing attributes of one item as it can adversely affect another. Thanks again for you help! Interior Attic Wall Issues.zip
  16. Mick, I didn't try your approach when Perry's did the trick, but I will certainly keep your suggestion in mind. Thanks
  17. Ah ha! That did it! Thank you all. I have a couple more but I will post a short video to explain. P.S. You are all a terrific group of a folks.
  18. Although I have found other to be so, no, this one is not.
  19. One more question on the affect Trusses may be having on my model. You will notice the upper end of the Gable wall is void of siding. Is this linked to the Truss? I moved it inside the wall edge thinking it was blocking the siding but that did not help. Any thoughts? Thanks again,
  20. I actually did these for the client and as an option but they elected to go Cathedral Ceiling instead. This got me thinking about Roof Trusses instead of Steal Columns and Rafter beam. In the end it will be the engineers call but here is what CAX7 came up with. Thank fir all your framing help. Custom Roof Trusses.zip
  21. Guys/Gals, I would like to present a Roof Truss Option to my client but am having difficulty getting the ROOF TRUSS to draw in the attached plan. Would one of you have a suggestion on what is preventing me from drawing the TRUSS? The Floor Trusses went down without a hitch. Thanks, Plan attached. Chapel 4.2.zip
