  1. Absolutely amazing, I did my best to photo bomb many pics, but the only one of me was the back of my balding head. They got Wendy Welton, Mon Cherie (many times), heck, they even got Joe Carrick's mug multiple times, I saw the Great Glenn Woodward and many more folks, but no facials of me.... I think there was a memo that was passed around in regards to avoiding the Troll ....... BTW, the UGM was great, sorry you missed it, I think you would of enjoyed meeting all of the folks.
  2. Good point Joe, I only checked in plan view, you are correct, he did not even create a hole for the stairs so he could see in 3D.... I suppose this is what CJ was responding to. My bad, I should of checked for both 2d and 3d.
  3. Curtis, I believe he was wondering why he does not see his stairs that are located on first floor when looking at second floor. If I look at your picture, I still can not see the spiral stairs that are located on first floor when viewing the second floor. I gave him two options, and Joe Carrick gave him a third option, he says none of those options work for him, I do not understand why none of those options do not work for him.
  4. I do not think so, if it is there, why hide it?. If you do not want it, select roof plane and turn off soffit.
  5. You cannot see it because it is a symbol on first floor. Two options, put another symbol on second floor or use ref sets to show stairs on first floor, second option is my preferred option.
  6. Use drop box to share files. I use it all the time for EVERY FILE ON MY COMPUTER. I use the MAC and very happy with it. I used PC two years ago, both work very well.
  7. You do not have to wait for book. There is help embedded in program. Hit the F1 key.
  8. No Problem Mick. Hoping to connect with you, maybe next time. I think you and I are seeing it a little differently, maybe we can connect at a different time. If I was missing something, I was thinking you could set me straight.
  9. Hey Mick, if interested, we can do a quick go to meeting to hash this out. Send me your email, I will send invite, we can do a short GTM to see if we agree what we are seeing, and we can spend some time bashing Joe and Glenn. dscotthall@mac.com
  10. I removed front stairs, left stairs on both sides, changed room from balcony to porch and this is what I get... expected behavior.
  11. Can you duplicate this behavior now or is it sporadic?
  12. Thanks for the lesson Richard. No offense intended Ma Cherie.

    Yep, that is the reason.

I concur, I can't believe this has not come up before. I cannot get the plus minus sign either.
  15. I think I am 75% efficient. Material lists is a big weakness, I don't trust them so I don't use them so I don't know them. I am using CA until the end. Too much time committed to switch.
  16. Perry's point is if you want you can have single line on floor one and double line on floor 2. It is not a default for all floors. Now what I would like is to be able to show single line on first floor for framing and double line of first floor for floor plan. IOW, I would like single line for beams on framing plan, but I would like double dashed line on floor plan to show dropped, exposed, or ridge beams.........
  17. Mon Cherie is right again, post the plan..... Or don't
  18. I think I do a save a lot..... not sure if this is my issue or CA issue, I will keep an eye out. I think I can prove that cameras are not staying on appropriate layer if I do a layer eye dropper. I think I proved that there are some funny things happening with floors depending on where you select the floor and blah blah blah..... I ain't gunna 'splain it agin, but I think I am losin my mind and my spellin 'bilities wid thes funy stuf goin` on wid CA.
  19. Wow, can't explain it, call from client, window missing in plan... but in the BACK UP ENTIRE PLAN copy of plan file, plan is good, but the other plan, same name, the original that the BACK UP ENTIRE PLAN came from, the window missing. I can't put my finger on it, but be careful...... sometimes things just ain't a stickin.
  20. Larry, I have been bugging my son for a couple years now to demonstrate REVIT to me. He is not an expert yet, but I think he is pretty good, he loves the program, and he is getting better at it. I think I might have to start withholding his allowance until he gives me a demonstration.
  21. Uh yea, speaking for myself, I don't know REVIT, I don't know VW, I don't know SU, I don't know my wife's birthday, but I know a bit about CA because that is all I know and that is how I make my money. I made a conscious decision to stay focused with one program. I did the start to finish video several years ago. It was an excersize to determine how quickly I could do the plans. It is somewhere out there. I get it, until you have done many homes, you do not know the process. And the more homes you do, the more you tweak the process to become quicker. It is definitely an organized process to draw the plans. And yes, I know CA is not perfect, I have said a few nasty words while dealing with their program. For some of us lame brains, CA is all we can handle, and to help improve it, we take the pilgrimage out to headquarters every other year......... believe me, it's not the golf or the fine dining or the cruise on the lake that gets me out there, it is the opportunity to interact with Doug, Dan, Brian, Scott and the rest.......... errrr , 18 holes of golf or 3 hours with ? Really an easy decision.
  22. I do not believe this, but you knew I would disagree. There is no way you can be very fast with CA because you are asking a lot of elementary questions. It's not a knock on you, just an observation. So, if you are interested in knowing if CA is a waste of your time, or whether you should be using a different program, how do you make the determination? Let me ask you this, if a competent CA user were to go against a competent..... pick your program....... user..... and if the CA user was quicker with more info, which program would you choose? You would choose CA. So here is the challenge if you are interested. Find your best user of some other program that competes with CA, and I will go up against him in a challenge to provide a set of CD's of an existing 2 story, 2800 sf. home on a sloped lot with a pool. Nothing over the top, but your average tract house. Give us both 8 hours, and let's see who does a better job. I bet that I could produce a set of plans that was almost permit ready. Not perfect, but darn close. Hey Johnny, are you coming to the UGM. You bailed on me when I was in Washington, we were supposed to get together for a drink. Anyway, why don't you come out to the UGM, you have some great input and I think the CA folks would appreciate any input you may have.
  23. Do as Racklamore suggests, learn to use drop box, one of the greatest inventions since Al Gore invented the internet.
