  1. OK, so here's my problem: I have a house with 4"x8" exposed rafters @48" oc and a 2"x8" sub-fascia. For the Garage I want to use Trusses but I want them to have 2x4 top chords and the then have the eaves and gable ends match the rest of the house. When I create the trusses the bottom chord extends out to the sub-fascia. Is there any way to get the trusses to stop at the exterior wall other than using 2 overlapping Roof Planes (one for the trusses and one for rafter tails)? I would have thought there would be a way to create such a truss configuration.
  2. Another option is the "Multi-Copy" tool. That allows you to copy at an interval by dragging.
  3. Click the button that says "More Reply Options" at the bottom right corner.
  4. AFAIK, There's no way to change the fractional accuracy in the Framing Schedule. It is possible to create a Text Label that's rounded to 1/8" increments and use that in the Schedule instead of the Length Column. It would require a Custom Macro to do that.
  5. Do you prefer to use Callouts with a Framing Schedule or Text Labels on the Framing Plan? Do you like to include the length of the Framing Members? If so, do you prefer: Ft-Inches-Fractions Inches-Fractions Decimal Inches Millimeters Rounded up to next standard length (Feet or Inches?) If you're a metric user, what are the stock size increments?
  6. Yes, but I still prefer "Labels" in most cases. Framing members all have Labels but only Beams and Posts have Defaults for the Labels. I'm pretty sure I have requested Defaults for all the other Framing Member Types. But the more requests we make, the more likely we are to get results from CA. By using a Label we can still add "Dumb Arrows" to clarify the intent.
  7. If you have them set as "I-Joists" then you can use the following: %width% x %depth% %type_name% But that will only show the label in decimal inches. If you want a completely custom set of framing annotations in fractional inches for all member types - I have a comprehensive macro package which I sell for $35.00 All the labels in the above example are produced by my %Framing Labels% macro - except the headers & the one that reads "2.5. x 11.875 I-Joist". It can also be used to label the "Wall Details" if desired.
  8. I Start with just 2-3 Elevation Lines and a few "Flat Terrain Regions" with "Interpolate Edges" checked. Then I add Roads, Driveways, Sidewalks, etc. Beyond that, Terrain Features, Terrain Breaks, Retaining Walls............. The less Elevation Data I provide, the better the Terrain results.

  10. The Macro for Arpil 2016 is Opening Header Label So I was thinking about Scott's complaint about the fact that Chief doesn't provide a way to easily show Headers and Label them in the Framing Plan. Perry had mentioned that you had to use a Referenced Macro - which is a PITA and the Header itself still isn't shown. I came up with a CAD Block containing everything needed. Header Text Box with Arrow Macro in the Text Box Sample output: The Block is placed at the Center of any opening - then rotated if necessary - then un-blocked. The red "Header" can be stretched as needed and the text can be independently moved. I know this isn't the ideal of having Chief provide real "Headers with Labels in Framing Plans - but it's close.
  11. The March 2016 Macro of the Month is: Counter Top Areas - Counter Top List - Counter Top Total Area These are used to accumulate and display the Areas of Counter Tops %Counter Top Areas% is placed in the Label of Cabinets and Custom Countertops %Counter Top List% is placed in a Text Box %Counter Top Total Area% is placed in a Text Box Example output is: For Metric Plans the output is in mm rather than Imperial units.
  12. Look in the dbx for the PSolid. X8 provides values/options for "Relative Position".
  13. Alex, Without your Plan and Layout there's very little chance that anyone here will be able to help. Dermot's advice is spot on. Get everything right in the Plan and the Elevations should be good. I never edit a view in Layout.
  14. Glenn, True, you can't select the Contour Lines or their Labels. But you can select the "Elevation Lines and their Labels.
  15. Yes, it's just a Label. Select it and drag by the Label Handle.
  16. Hand drawing is a rewarding effort in its own right. But it takes a lot of time and practice. Chief eliminates most of the time and still provides very similar output.
  17. Robert, .json is Chief's Export/Import format - and yes, they need to be imported into each Plan (or the Default Plan Template) in order to be available. There are ways to make some commonly used extended Ruby scripts available but that's another subject entirely.
  18. BTW, FWIW you can turn on the Windows & Window Labels in the Framing Layer Set. Then change the Window Linestyle to "blank" and lock both the Window and Window Labels Layers. As long as you are not using a Schedule Callout for the Labels you will get the Label. If you want to hide everything except the Header Label you can put a mask over it.
  19. Those are not really Headers, just a couple of lines that are displayed to show the wall above the Door. The actual Headers are not there in the Plan View. "Headers" are a part of Framing and should be shown in the Framing Plans - as we have repeatedly requested.
  20. Perry, Can you post a pic of the macro (in Text Macro Management) ? There must be something wrong in the script. I just copy/pasted it in a new macro and checked "Evaluate" and it works perfectly.
  21. Scott, You're wrong - at least from the standpoint of the "Framing Plans". The "Headers" are not there in the "Framing Plans" even though they are there in the Wall Details and in the 3D Framing views. We've asked repeatedly for them to be in the Framing Plans. It should be easy for CA to do - but they haven't done it.
  22. The problem is that CA is just not creating the Headers in the Framing Plans. They are there in the Wall Details (and can be labeled there) but they are not in the Framing Plans. If CA adds them to the Framing Plans (as we have asked for years) then the labels will not be a problem.
