If you have copied your entire library to the second computer than moving files on a thumb drive is pretty seamless. The problems occure when the library is missing textures or images. I move files constantly between 3 computers with the same library. When I need to share a file with someone drafting for me I do a Backup Entire Plan and zip the directory for sharing.
Is there a quick and easy way to copy the entire library?? I don't like the mess of creating a library for every plan (although that may only be an issue in my head with no basis in reality...not sure). I also don't want to end up with a whole ton of duplicate items. What I have on the laptop so far is the core content and that's about it.

Thanks Texian,
I've considered syncing using a similar approach to what you've mentioned, however I would really prefer to do it without using the internet or any cloud based services. Getting an internet connection isn't always an option for me either.

I recently bought a laptop to run Chief while at the jobsite. Its the first time I've had more than one computer for the task. Until recently I've always used just one PC at the office.
How do the rest of you handle transferring plan files back and forth?? The whole "Backup Plan" thing is confusing to me. I don't understand if and/or why backing up EVERYTHING is necessary. Also don't know what the second "Backup Plan" option does (the one that DOES NOT backup EVERYTHING. It seems to just save the plan??
All I need to accomplish at this point is to be able to pass plans back and forth without any hitches as simply as possible. Would always be working on one computer or the other, and never on both at the same time.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I personally paste it into Paint where I can crop it and make notations.

I personally don't use the material list but, if it's anything like schedules… it will no longer update once converted to text.
Also, if you must choose to GENERATE material list it would seem that it would not be an auto update type thing. What's the problem with just regenerating the list once you're ready??
-
Just to clarify… you are referring to a material list and not a schedule right?

While we're at it, I guess it might be a good time to define my definition of fascia. I call the main finish board around the ENTIRE roof permiter fascia whether it's on the rake or not, so my definition of a shadow board would be the same as Perry's.
A little unrelated, but I've always referred to what you guys are calling a rake as the barge or barge rafter. I do however call a stick framed gable end wall a rake wall. I guess I now see where the term comes from.
I think we could probably go on all day comparing definitions. A lot of terms seem to vary regionally. I imagine most carpentry related terms probably become more accurate the further east you go (as you get closer to the historical sources).
-
Not sure if there is a "correct" definition or not however I have always called an additional piece of trim added to the top of the fascia "shadow board". It creates a shadow line on the fascia thereby giving it some added depth and character.

Michael, it is important to recognize the difference between the "post and go" Posters, and the posters who are really interested in learning something.
Does knowing the difference make it less annoying for you??
-
Thanks for all the suggestions. I gave up on it and moved on. The house had duplicate roof planes and a partial wall in a wall. Too frustrating and not that important at the moment.
Sounds like giving up was easier than posting the plan?

Can you attach the plan?

Richard,
As Bill said, you have to add additional mouldings which you are not doing. See my first screenshot above. Notice I have 3 distinct moulding profiles.
Also...from your second to last post it looks like you correctly set the crown moulding for the dining area but not the living room.

Gotcha...so simply opening the model in Sketchup and saving as an older version might work??
-
The above was all in X6, however X5 is the same procedure just looks a little different.

I may be misunderstanding something, but I have no problems simply dragging and dropping SKP files directly into 64 bit X6. Not sure why it would be any different on a Mac since Sketchup supports Mac and makes a Mac version as well.

I do realize that and I am not trying to play games just having a hard time with capturing what I want to send and uploading it, one of those days that can't end fast enough, and I guess I am not understanding what exactly you want me to send, i just printed a pdf tile from my quicken file and opened it up and it printed to one of my printers with no problem that is whats the confusing part, I will try to work on it over the weekend or see if I can get one of my tech guys to look at it.
Thanks for trying
It would be good to see the PRINT DBX. For example, you may have the radio button selcted that says "Print pages" or "Pages" and you may not have selected any pages. There are other possibilities as well, but that one immediately comes to mind.

I'm not having any issues but after reading the above posts I've become curious...
What is a PDF driver?? I have PDF printers and a PDF reader. I wasn't aware of a driver. Can someone clarify?

Read it again, he asked for minimum.
My bad, I guess he actually asked for BOTH in the same sentence.
-
Joe, next time my client has a lot wider than 50', I will.
Hey, we are discussing minimums recognized by the presiding jurisdictions.
Actually Scott, the title of the thread is "OPTIMUM Size..."

10'x19' deep is our city minimum.
That's the type of garage I would venture to guess is used as a shed. Or maybe to park the Fiat that rarely gets driven.

Many, many years ago Intel stopped using speed to name their chips
nowdays they are I3, I5, I7 and I7 is one of the best
when I bought my Win7 PC in Jan I made sure I had I7
Lew
That's pretty misleading information Lew...
I7 processors can vary substantially in clock speed. And whether your computer has overclocking options or not can make that difference even more substantial. My I5 processor for example can overclock to at least 3.2GHz whereas the slowest I7 processor may max out at 1.8 GHz. They DO have multiple I7-XXXX names as well. Simply having an I7 processor doesn't mean its faster.

I don't think you have anywhere near enough for a functional single car garage. I wouldn't personally recommend building a single car garage with less than a 14ft wide usable area. which would require around 15ft. when accounting for walls.
To give a little perspective, you can't even pull some vehicles into a 7ft. opening without folding the mirrors in, and your average person will likely find it rather challenging to pull in and out of an 8ft. wide garage door. Figuring an 8ft. opening, that would leave you with around an 18" wall on either side of the garage door which is likely a structural issue to contend with, and MAYBE 24" on each side of the vehicle to get in and out (and that's assuming the side walls are totally empty). In my opinion nobody would use a garage of that size to park in, and parking a fullsize pickup truck would be essentially impossible.
Why is X6 so slow?

After looking back at this initial post I'm wondering if perhaps you don't have the Intel Turbo boost activated. You say your PC is 3.4GHz...correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think there is a 3.4GHz processor. Only a 2.4 that can reach 3.4 with turbo boost activated. The laptop may actually be faster if the turbo boost is activated on that. Just a thought.
