  1. You can create a hole in your ceiling (use the hole in ceiling tool or convert polyline tool), but why bother? Isn't your light going to fill in the hole?
  2. Alan, he said he already did that. Does not sound normal to me. Post the plan.
  3. Yes, explode it and then resize manually. Even if the program did let you do what you are asking, you probably really wouldn't want it to. You are going to want your kitchen to have standard sized cabinets and appliances. If you could rescale it by .85 you would have very non-standard sizes for everything.
  4. Beta software is not the same as released software. Chief gets to decide who can have the beta. They have already had the private beta going on for months and I know that not everyone that wanted to be on it was let on the team. The only real difference between the public beta and the private beta is that they are not being so picky about who can join and now you don't even have to sign an nda. I'm sure that if Chief let people have the beta and then their ssa expired before the release that they would then complain very loudly about not being able to finish their plans. I would bet that Chief has had this problem before which is why they have this policy to begin with. As far as I know, this was the same policy that they had with X6 beta. I think some people are making way too big of a deal about this. If you want the beta and your ssa is going to expire soon, then just renew it. If you are not sure, then download the trial and then make up your mind.
  5. You probably blended the paint color with the brick texture. The default mode for the material painter is to blend colors (which I always find annoying). You can change the paint mode using the edit toolbar when you click on the painter tool to replace the material instead. Also, I never use the material painter on walls. It always does strange things. Especially if you make the mistake of doing the outside of the building. If you do accidently paint your walls, you can always paint them again with the "use default" as the material to go back to the default. If you really want to change just the color of a wall, and not anything with the structure, I would either change the room material in the room dialog or change the wall surface material in the wall dialog. As for changing the brick walls to painted walls, I would always use a different wall type for this.
  6. I think it's a connection issue. Cabinets are only happy when each back and each side are only against one other cabinet. When ever you have a back against two or more cabinets you get extra lines. The counter tops are easy to fix with custom counters. I don't know of a way to fix the extra lines on the sides.
  7. You can put as many sinks as you want into a cabinet by dropping them into the plan first and then dragging them on top of the cabinet. They won't stick with the cabinet though. You can change the drawer front to a panel which won't have any hardware. Then choose the panel style from the library that matches your other drawer fronts. These all work in X6 so I assume they will still work in X7 too.
  8. The short answer is you just draw another walkthrough path on the 2nd floor starting where the 1st floor path ends at the top of the stairs. They should auto join to make one video.
  9. This link was posted in the chatroom. There are some videos and a link to a pdf with more details. http://www.chiefarchitect.com/whats-new/
  10. I think photon mapping only affects raytrace views. Check the material using the rainbow tool. See if it is really set to be a "mirror". If it's not that, post the plan.
  11. Yes. If you need to ask that question here, then you should definitely wait. It's a beta version. That means that it will probably have bugs. If you don't know how to (or don't want to) deal with bugs, then you should wait.
  12. Rooms can have fill patterns. Just set it up in the room dialog.
  13. You can also do this using the wall hatch tool. I think it is easier then changing the wall type because then you can control everything with layers. Just place wall hatches on all walls. You can marquee select them all while in hatch tool mode. Change the fill style to solid and what ever color you want. Then turn off the layer for "walls, layers.". If you want to make your life easier, just set up a new layer set with the wall hatching on and wall layers off to switch between presentation floor plan and construction drawings.
  14. I probably wasn't very clear in my earlier post. You just need to have a break between your landing railing and your stair railing. The problem is anytime you touch either railing, the break will auto heal. To prevent this from happening, just put your two railings on different layers.
  15. The muntins crossing each other have always been like that and they bug me too. I can sometimes get better results with custom muntins but this is a lot of extra work. The door is because whoever made the door symbol made it that way. I don't know if this was done on purpose (because that's the look they wanted) or if was an accident that was never fixed. If you use a different door symbol, or a simple frame and panel door, you won't see the problem.
  16. You don't need to turn off auto rebuild deck framing to get rid of the support beams and posts. Just open up the room dialog for the deck and turn off "deck support beams". If the auto rebuild is off, you will need to manually rebuild the framing to get rid of them. If you more then one deck room, you will have to turn them off for each of them. If you want them off for any new decks, then turn them off in the deck room defaults. If you are still having problems, post a plan.
  17. You have to check "follow stairs" to get the railing to sit on top of the landing otherwise it sits on the floor. If you are having a problem with rails joining, you can put each section on a different layer and then they won't join. I still had problems even after that and gave up pretty quick. Maybe someone else with more patience can make it work.
  18. If you ever have the problem with rotated lights or vents again, just use the open symbol tool and turn off "flush mounted".
  19. I'm with Perry and Scott. Break the wall and use two wall types (unless you actually need a window/door in the break). Wall breaks are much easier to maintain then material regions.
  20. I think you may have found a bug. If you actually have a base molding on your room and use the make room molding polyline at a height of 0, it will generate how my picture shows. If you don't have a molding, and use height 0, it looks like it leaks under some of the walls. If you put in a height of 1" though, it will look right. I would report this to Chief because I can't think of a good reason why the polyline should ever go into the walls.
  21. That polyline you are showing looks nothing like the one I get if I use the "make room molding polyline" tool using your plan. How did you make it?
