When you guys draw a railing wall, what wall type do you use if you don't want anything showing above the beam? Usually my porch beams set back an inch or so from the edge of the porch. When I use a siding wall type I usually get a piece of it showing when the roof has to be raised up to land a certain way or if I want the top of the beam to be higher than the ceiling. I usually draw the beams as 3d solids.

Use the hatch tool in the cross section view to cover it up. It's not perfect, but once you add the hatch, just drag the grips to your liking.

Thanks.... I tried that method which confirms that I need to experiment more with the location of my breaks and deleting the columns.

Yes... That is what I used. It gets a bit harry when you break it though..... like I couldn't get rid of the columns created at the break. Maybe I just need to experiment more. Thanks

How do I create a railing like the attached picture with the balusters and panels and columns? I have some idea, but I don't want to reinvent methods that may already be available in chief. Thanks in advance.

I have a job where my wall schedule isn't displaying a 2D wall image correctly. I usually don't include a schedule, but this being a remodel they are helpful. Anyway, the Interior-4 wall is showing up with dashed lines instead of solid which is what the plan shows. Best I can tell everything else is showing up properly. Anyway, I have racked my brain trying to figure out why. Wanted to know if anyone has seen this or knows what is going on. Yes. Click on object, You will find the tool at the bottom. It give you the option to bring to front or back. Have a go.

I just did this and it worked.

Click once on the soffit covering it. Then try using your tab key to tab through the objects in that area.

I have a project coming up that the foundation is brick piers as shown in the attached images. What is the best way to draw these the way they are shown here? I have looked at the foundation tool with piers but it centers them under the edge of the wall and it doesn't appear they can be moved. Anyway, I will probably be doing a few like this so I want to get it figured out. Thank in advance for tips on this.

I ended up getting this working. I had to select "Higher Eaves Boxed" on the Options panel. Thanks to everyone for chiming in.

Hey skip How I would do this.... Copy the material definition to your user catalog and rename it something to dilineate it from the original. Once this is done you can then open nd edit the material definition. Once in the editor, the top panel is "Pattern". Under the pattern section, change it from hatch (or whatever it is set to) to "no pattern". This should keep the image in the 3d viewer while suppressing the hatch texture. Give this a go and see if its what you were needing.

The grade level in the story pole dimensions is set in the Story Pole Dimension defaults under the locate elevations panel. It is at the very top. It isn't based on where the actual terrain is located. May not be what you are needing, but it is worth a check.

I want to extend my roof overhang over an exit door for partial cover. How can I do that and not have the soffit stick through the sloped roof? See attached for what I am referring to. OR is there a better way to do that rather than extending the roof down?

This is the first time I have had this come up.... I have had to shift a detached garage on a plan both forward and over to fit on a lot. Being detached I have elevations of just the garage. After moving the garage around all of my notes/dimensions on the elevations are now not lined up. What is the best practice to get things lined up again? Thanks
