  1. Thought it might save a trip to the project browser while in plan view, but again not sure it has any real workability.
  2. Curious what you all think about this idea. Of course 'better' is way too subjective a question to ask but I was struggling a bit on how to actually use the new linking capabilities in Chief as my detailing is usually minimal as I use an engineer's details much more than my own. The idea is to bypass the drop down menu for plan views and set up linked plan view call-outs that live in every plan view and can quickly be accessed in the plan versus the drop down plan view menu, of course on their own layer. Haven't really tried it yet but what do you think? Sorry no sound in the vid. 861345270_palnviewplan.plan
  3. 3 point turn for what? A fire engine hammerhead? Or for a Honda Civic? How big a radius?
  4. Thanks Maureen, did not know that. Is that new for X14?
  5. Thanks Glenn and understood. When I create a template I usually want to include most everything as that, to me, is what makes a template a template. Seems weird to me that Chief has, by default, most everything checked to delete when I would have everything, by default, unchecked but perhaps this works better for most users?
  6. ...then click "Save In Plan" if available.
  7. Yeah, and I probably learned a couple of those tricks from you!!
  8. I have 3 words that sum up why Archicad is no better or worse than Chief Architect, "Apples and Oranges."
  9. Thanks Mick, I was able to get the floor surfaces in different rooms to sorta kinda match with a 80,000 - 150,000 Lumen light in other rooms but never really matched textures. Learning a little more about how this may not be my thing. Many frustrating "features." Do you think it's intended that PBR would only render one room accurately? Or is it a matter of just messing about till one gets the look one's after?
  10. Is this a function/challenge with PBR?
  11. Can someone explain what is happening with the 2 views? Standard shows the flooring fairly consistently the PBR shows 3 different textures? All I did was change from standard to PBR using the original plan. Thanks BTW, glad I could motivate those who know about such things to post better ideas and renders by posting a crap render
  12. I am NOT a Ray Trace or rendering expert and have no idea how those experts get the results they get but I take a pretty drastic approach and start adding really bright lights (not recessed cans but lights from the 3D Add Lights Menu) all over and see what changes. I think one light is even 200,000 lumens but that's not what I recommend, it's just what I did to see if might improve the look. You be the judge and it might help at least get closer to what you want. 10 pass RayTrace and PB Camera. One big problem could be your materials like the SS and counter tops. That's a bit over my pay grade but perhaps others can help. 1199616752_DEC1NewDesignWITHLIGHTSFURNITURE 2.plan
  13. Have not experienced that here.
  14. Seems like that would work but does it strike anyone else that this should be a rather simple action for Chief to complete automatically?
  15. I tried your suggestions and they were indeed, in this case, not helpful. ALWAYS appreciate your input but could not get your suggestions to work to shorten the process of creating a simple white filled box, which was the impetus for the OP. And as we know user error is always a possibility/probability so if I missed or misunderstood your suggestions I'll try again.
  16. As most know currently the default fill style is No Pattern. Steps to create white fill. 1. Open object, 2. click the drop down, 3 select solid, 4 click color chooser, 5 click white, 6 click OK, 7 click OK. Voila - White filled box. 7 steps to create a white filled box. Tried using Use Layer Color but then everything including lines come in as white. Obviously not a problem for others users so thanks for the opportunity to rant a bit.
  17. Gene, I've found it near impossible to follow someone else's thought process in Chief and in life in general and as brilliant as Mr Rabbit is with all things Chief I don't get it either and need to develop my own skill set in such matters. Others will take to his tools and techniques, which are again brilliant at least but they just don't fit into my slower, older brain. I do watch and appreciate and pick up ideas that I can apply but really can't follow the thought process.
  18. Yes, all good ideas, all require multiple steps. I'd like to simply draw a white filled p-line box as default. One step - draw box - done.
  19. Thanks Glenn, did not know this tool existed. Seems odd that we can set a default fill style for a pretty obscure polyline tool but not for a regular polyline box. Apparently it's just me.
  20. The above advice still requires multiple steps to create a simple white filled P-line box which I've used as a mask hundreds of times as Scott shows in the video. So after 20 years of using Chief there's still no way to set the default fill style/color of a P-line box? I've NEVER wanted a black filled box - ever and if I ever did I'd be happy to take a couple step to get there. I've suggested this multiple times but apparently not enough interest to change. In the mean time I've added the Materials List Polyline tool to my tool bar, which incredibly enough DOES have a default fill color setting? The Materials List Polyline tool has a default fill style setting but the regular polyline box used every day by every user does not? Carry on.
  21. What objects does that default above affect?
  22. Found this (X14) but doesn't affect polyline boxes?
  23. I've wanted a default white fill style for more years than I can remember but the default has always been black. Click from No Pattern to Solid fill and the default fill is black. I've changed the fill to white literally thousands of times. Adds a lot of time to my work flow but have learned to live with it realizing it will not change. Or has it and I've missed it? I was watching the video below and @ 3:11 Scott Harris changes the fill color from what looks like default blue to, of course white, to do what I want to do many, many times. What gives? Is there a way to change that default please? Does Scott's black look like blue in the video? How did he get blue and how do I get white as the default? https://www.chiefarchitect.com/videos/watch/10263/kitchen-design-part-1-floor-plan-cabinet-layout.html?playlist=139
