@ Ronniesha , think about layers. If you create a polyline and fill it white and it is on a draw layer above your walls but below your dimensions, you get what is described above.
I am sure if I spend hours of tweaking this method I could get it to work. But that would be time consuming and as I said before if I created a polyline around the room and filled it white then it would obviously be covering the rooms around it. Then I would have to create more layers for the other rooms. And this just isn't a great use of time! It's okay though! I can just not do what I am trying to do!

Use a CAD mask. Just place a large polyline with a solid fill over your plan and cut a hole in it. Just make sure all your annotations are in a higher Drawing Group and it should do what you want.
Interesting approach but still doesn't work. If I added polyline solids around all the rooms they would overlap and cover up other rooms. I don't think this is something that could be achieved in chief architect.

Move the dimensions so they do not get cropped?
I am dimensioning windows, doors, and the room. I need room to dimension. If I cut my box down to where I need it it will cut off the dimensions. Simply "moving" the dimensions so they don't get cropped is not an answer. I like to crop the floorplan down to the walls (so it doesn't show other rooms) but keep the dimensions showing. Like the attached photo

Have you tried adjusting your default settings?
Yeah I just did and I got it to work the way I wanted! Thank you kindly!

You should create separate layers for your lighting dimensions and any other dimensions that you want to keep separate and then turn on those layers in the applicable plan view set., To create a custom layer, click on 'New' tab at the bottom of your layer display options list.A box will come up in which you can enter the name of the new layer then click 'OK'. Once this is done, assign the dimension of your choice to the new layer.
Hope this helps - Eric
Hi,
I have already done this. But when I draft a dimensions line it - as a default - puts it under the "manual" dimension layer and NOT my lighting dimension layer. In order to get the new dimension to show under the layer I want I have to turn my "manual" dimension layer back on - click the new dimension - and go into the layer properties and change it to the correct layer. I am assuming there is a way to just have my dimensions automatically set to the "lighting dimension" layer instead of the "manual dimension" layer. I only want my manual dimensions to show on the new floor plan?
Does that make sense? I know its alot lol

So I am going to try and explain my problems as clear as possible.
I have a new floor plan view with a matching new floor plan layer set. On that layer set I have it set up to show or not show certain things like dimensions etc. Then I have a lighting plan view with a lighting layer set. On that layer set I have certain layers turned off and certain layers turned on. For example on my lighting layer set I have a layer for lighting dimensions.
My problem is that when I draft a dimension on my lighting plan view the dimension automatically defaults to manual dimensions which I have turned off because those dimensions on that layer are for my new floorplan not my lighting plan. How can I get around this problem?
Please don't link the videos about layers I have watched them all!

Hi
Thinking about going from a iMac desktop to a mac laptop so I can work from home, coffee shop, etc. What is a good mac laptop that can run chief effieciently?
TIA!

@DzinEye Alright that worked! I didnt have the layer on!

@DzinEye What does the wall hatch look like? Also I tried to change the fill on my wall specification but it doesn't show in my plan view

Alrighty - I ended up changing the name of the page and so it changed the size of the elevation call out!

Hi Ronniesha,
This behavior presents itself when Chief Architect doesn't have proper permission to record/capture the screen. This can be resolved by following the steps below:
- Close Chief Architect.
- Click on the Apple icon in the top left corner and select System Preferences.
- Select the Security & Privacy category
- On the next screen, click on the Privacy tab at the top.
- On the left side, scroll down and click on the Screen Recording option.
-
Place a check in the box next to the Chief Architect program.
NOTE: If this section is grayed out, you may have to select the padlock icon in the bottom left corner and enter your Apple account credentials to make modifications.
I hope this helps.THIS WORKED! Thank you so much!

@Chopsaw I think you are right. Might just have to photoshop the image so it can be used as a material. URGH.
-
@rlackore The image of the tile shown in the web browser!
-
@rlackore Yeah I can save it as an image. But I want to be able to just screen capture from chief. We do alot of rendering of materials so being able to material capture from chief would be such a game changer!
-
Hello,
So I am running into a small problem. I want to use the capture tool to capture a material. But when I do select the material to be captured (i.e. an image of a tile) instead of selecting the image it selects my background image on my computer.
Let me know if you need any clarification. I will attach an image of the tile I want to screen material capture and whats happening. The blue that is showing on the teapot is actually my background image on my mac instead of the chevron that I selected. Why won't chief select the material image and NOT my background image?

@mtldesigns Yay! Okay so some how my ceiling layer got hidden so that is why I couldn't see it. I know this seems like a "duh" moment! Newbie here
-
@solver I am trying to connect the walls to the ceiling. But apparently there is no ceiling?
-
@mtldesigns Yes my ceiling is checked just like the image you shared!

Okay I followed your steps (thank you for adding sound!!). But after I completed your steps and I have changed the symbol to Rx - I went to connect the electrical to a switch and I can't connect it. For some reason it wont connect like a normal lighting fixture would.
Hopefully that makes sense!

I am definitely probably not understanding. I am not a chief pro, just a beginner! I can try to find some videos about it!
