Please select the single light I placed and try moving 42" off front wall using the dimension I have drawn. It jumps to 2nd floor every time - at least on my install.

Did you try moving them once initially placed? Thanks Eric.

I'm trying to layout a recessed light grid in a kitchen design. Whenever I move a recessed light too close to the front exterior wall, it jumps onto the 2nd floor. It's a story and a half home, but the second level is defined as floor 2. This also happens when I draw a CAD line in order to snap into the proper location. I've been trying to find a workaround for over a 1/2 hour - needless to say, quite frustrating. I have attached a zipped file as the size was slightly over the 25MB limit. I'd appreciate any help with this. Thanks, Kevin Baker_Proposed_10-29-19_STRIPPPED.rar

Hey Chopsaw. That's brilliant. Thank you very much for the solution. I did find another way by using straight railing on top of the deck. It wasn't as easy as your solution though. Thanks again! Kevin

I've got a screened porch adjacent to an open deck where the posts/railings need to meet up - see images attached. How do I get the posts to line up? When the converging walls snap together, the post is offset. I've spent the last 30 minutes messing around with this. I probably should have drawn them manually if this is the best CA's tools can do... I'd appreciate any advice. Thanks.

It is a great tool. Glad I asked as these types of tips aren't in the training videos.

Glenn's method worked too, but I had to reposition all the walls and windows. When I first cut the wall using Michael's suggestion, the walls and windows shifted down to the floor joists; however, when I pasted the wall back into place, everything came back up to the correct height off the floor platform.

Michael - thanks. That worked great! Kevin

Chris - thanks for the reply. I built the window manually as I needed a triple. I used the method as described here by Eric: chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/topic/15217-window-bumpout Attached is the file... CHF_Hogge_PROPOSED_09-28-19.plan

Thanks Eric. What floor do you recommend I move the deck to? Floor 0? Also, what is the best method to move plan objects to different floors? This isn't going to mess up my roof? Thanks again!

I could really use some help on this one. I've been through all the wall settings and room settings as pertains to the box window. I looked in the deck DBX - there doesn't seem to be an option to prevent the cut. I thought there might be a similar solution to when this happens to the terrain, but no such option.

What setting do I need to change to avoid this? Thanks!

Mick - thanks for taking the time to explain. I can see where the method I prefer would be problematic on more complicated buildings. For this particular job, I am just remodeling a bathroom and needed some quick walls (room layout only). Yes, my original settings were incorrect, but I got them sorted. I don't follow you on not needing to change the resize about option. This was the only option that allowed me to input dims and have them correspond to the inner drywall layer. When set at default, it would draw from the outside whether I drew clockwise or counter. I'm still getting my head around using layers and saved plan views. I can see where they can be a powerful tools, but am still a bit confused by what dims to put on what layer. I was going to spend tomorrow doing exactly what you suggest by making copies of the 1/4 annos and 1/4 dim defaults. Do changing these defaults only effect the current plan or is it a global change that occurs? I don't want to mess things up for the sake of an experiment. Thanks for the file. I'll take a look tomorrow. I appreciate that everyone is so helpful on this forum...

LOL! You ain't kidding!

Mick - thanks for the input. I am familiar with CA's recommended method and I don't agree. I don't see how this can be faster than entering the length correctly from the start. I've been doing it this way in AutoCAD for years - perhaps that's why this is more comfortable for me.

Thanks again Michael. Dermot - I appreciate the link. Will look at that tonight.

Never mind. I found it. Thanks for the help!

Thanks Rene - Is there a button to save the Working Plan View in its current state? If so, I cannot find one.

I finished a layout and decided later that I want to show a reference layer showing existing conditions underneath the proposed plan. My layout will not automatically update and the DBX is grayed out. I did not send over from layout as an image - it should be live. Why isn't it updating? Thanks.

Michael - Resize about set to "inner surface" did the trick. Thank you very much!

Robert - I don't know how else I can say it. I want to draw my walls based on interior measurements I took (wallboard to wallboard), use the tab key while drawing each individual wall, input the dimension I want, and have CA draw it. However, the dims default to the outside wall layers no matter what setting I change. I appreciate the replies.

Robert thanks for the help. I've got it set up the same way, but the temp dims don't denote the inside of the wall no matter what I do. Further, as stated above, I am looking for drywall to drywall dims (which I know equates to surfaces in DBX). Maybe I didn't explain very well, but I want to size the wall lengths as I draw them from the perspective of measurements I took from within the room (wallboard to wallboard) - like I can do in AutoCAD. This would be a HUGE time saver especially when designing a single room...
-
Robert - that seems to work under NKBA standards, but doesn't help me when I am actually drawing the walls (only when moving them or resizing them). The walls always comply with the outside wall layer. When I measure an as-built it is always from the inside from drywall to drywall. I find it hard to believe we can't draw walls this way.

Under which default? There are many of them...
