Again, I don't follow. How can I draw walls over top of existing walls? Thanks.
-
The wall you have in the second image where you state it should NOT be a High Shed Gable, isn't. It is specified as a Hip Wall.
-
Thanks again Eric. Where did that wall come from? Is it something you drew or by changing the roof setting it will automatically connect? Sorry, I still don't follow. I tried to change the roof settings as you show in your images and the results are still the same. Would you mind sharing the revised file? Kevin

Thanks Eric. The dormer walls are already connecting to the interior walls as shown in the second image. I thought CA would fill this in automatically. I'm not sure I understand what you mean by drawing walls that cover the gap. There are already walls drawn in these locations.

I am attempting to model my first dormer. I can't get the side walls to connect - see attached. I would greatly appreciate any help with this. I have attached the plan file too. Thanks, Kevin Baker_As-Built_07-26-19.plan

Eric - so you're saying you'd use a ceiling plane to get this?
-
Yes, exactly. The surface under the red that I show with red arrows. I think you just answered my question though. "Chief only does plumb walls". So, I'll have to fill in with a polyline solid. Thanks!
-
Sorry - I should have been more clear. In the image attached I have marked the sloping wall. When viewed from the outside it's a sort of dormer. The second photo shows another vantage point from the inside. I guess my question is, can CA draw this parametrically (thereby generating framing) or do I need to fill this in with a polyline solid and manually add the framing? Can CA generate walls that aren't perpendicular to the floor? The outside ceiling over the porch is flat.

I have a story and a half as-built that I'm modeling. There's an angled wall just above the foyer as shown in the first photo. How should I go about this? Polyline solid or is there some tool in Ca that will help? The second photo is an exterior shot. Thanks, Kevin.
-
Thanks Eric. I always forget about that tool.

Steve - that did it. Thank you for catching that.

Eric - moving the window seems to work too. Thanks for the suggestion!

Michael - thanks. That did the job. I appreciate the help!

I have two box windows that I created using Eric's pony wall/doorway technique. The one on the front of the house is identical to the one on the back of the house including the window settings. However, the one on the front is missing it's exterior sill. I have tried restarting CA among other things and it just won't appear. Anyone got any ideas? File is attached. Tom - thanks for the reply. That, however, is not working. It still has a max width that I cannot exceed.

I'm modeling an as-built that requires a box window. The framers forced the window to fit into the box and butchered the vertical casing as shown in the first photo. I am unable to recreate this in CA as it won't let me make the window any wider which I was hoping would force the casing into the wall thereby making it appear to be cut. I changed the rough opening on the sides to zero. This allowed me to increase the width a bit, but still not wide enough. Is there any way to override the max window width while using a box window or another workaround? Much thanks, Kevin

Thanks Glenn. Clever trick.

That means that the default setting of 20 degrees plus is adequate to create the necessary phong smoothing. It is still all about the smoothing angle. Has always been in all the CAD software I've ever used. Evidently, CA doesn't assign smoothing to program-created geometry unless designated as a symbol. When you lower the smoothing angle to 1 in the library, it becomes quite heavily segmented.
-
Eric - I am familiar with the smoothing angle settings which is why I mention converting it to a symbol. I would upload the file, but it fails for some reason. Just try it - it really does work.
-
Don't know if this will work in CA, but in other software that I've used (FormZ, Sketch & Toon module in Cinema 4D), the smoothing angle setting dictates what lines get drawn. You could try setting the angle to a higher number and see if that helps. That said, CA is unlike any other software that I've used!

Thanks Rob. Hopefully something can be done about it soon.
