I've got a layout and on page 1 I want to show a camera view of the existing backside of the house. On page 2 I want to show a camera view of my proposed changes. Both cameras are generated from separate .plan files. There needs to be some stretching and resizing to get the view to fit the layout properly. I cannot figure out how to have both camera views show at the same size and in the identical place, however on two different pages of my layout - a sorta before and after that aligns perfectly when flipping through the pages. I prefer to use plot lines so that I can touch up, but is this making it impossible to do? Thanks.

Shading Variations Between Original Materials and Their Copies
kwhitt replied to kwhitt's topic in General Q & A
Hi Steve. There's definitely a problem. Did you make copies of the material and assign to different door fronts? It's this replication that causes the problem and Michael found the issue. Thanks. -

Michael - you are correct. It is the normal map. Thanks for troubleshooting this. I'll report it. -
Shading Variations Between Original Materials and Their Copies
kwhitt replied to kwhitt's topic in General Q & A
Ryan - thanks for the reply. No, that's not the case. You can use the "Adjust Material Definitions" tool and see that they are unique materials. I did some more experimenting with different render styles and the problem persists - attached is the PBR. -
I've been creating some wood materials for my cabinet designs. When I try to make a copy of the original wood material and apply it to one of my doors to create variation in the grain, the overall appearance of the material gets darker than the original even though the texture maps and property settings are the same for all materials. In the attached image, I have left 5 of the inset slab doors with the original material. I copied this original material 5 times so that I could "move" the grain around to create some randomness (using the "Adjust Material Definition" tool and changing the horizontal and vertical offsets). The copies are consistently darker. When I try to replace the original material with yet another copy, I have the same problem. It must have something to do with the fact that the slab doors that hold the material copies are selected outside the defaults (which is the only method by which I can assign a unique material in the first place). Has anyone else run into this before? I suppose the solution is to keep making copies of the original material and assign them to unique doors until all the materials are darker and the original is gone, but that is so much more work than just randomizing a few of them. The file is attached if anyone has any interest or explanation as to why it works this way. shading variation.zip

Thanks Mark - clever as always! I knew you'd have an answer. Kevin

I'm trying to create a pie-cut corner wall cabinet. I've tried two methods and neither give me the appearance I'm after. The first image shows two individual wall cabinets meeting at the wall corner. As you can see the top rail overlaps back to each wall. The second image shows Chief's out-of-the-box corner wall cabinet. I don't want the additional frame stiles in the corner. I was hoping someone had a workaround for this other than building the cabinet using P-solids. @MarkMc

Correct. I created the 2D Block with dashed lines, but it reverts to solid once in the oven cabinet.
-
Thanks Michael. I figured it out. One more question, Is it possible to have the 2d block shown inside the oven cabinet (in plan view) to be a dashed line where it is actually inside the cabinet? Kevin
-
Thanks guys. I know how to customize the 2d block by using "CAD Block Management" > Insert, but how do I change the bounding box?
-
Same results. Attached is the .plan file and the 3D symbol. INSET OVEN PLAN.plan INSET OVEN SYMBOL.calibz

Tommy - already did that. I created the 3D symbol myself and modified the 2D block to clean it up. The symbol is already offset in Y to ensure it flushes out with the cabinet; however, the block does not follow and I see no way to offset it independently. There's got to be a workaround for this.
-
Sorry, I don't follow. I have already changed the origins of my 3D symbol and it works perfectly in 3D views. The plan view is the problem where the oven handles don't project beyond the cabinet face frame. I can find no such control to "Edit 3D Symbol". Do you mean "Open Object" or "Open Symbol"? Thanks again.

I've created a Wolf Double Oven to be installed flush inset into an oven cabinet. The face of the oven doors is to be flush with the cabinet frame - obviously the handles project beyond the cabinet frame. The 3D symbol works great, but the 2D block in plan view is wrong. I've looked around this morning for a solution and found a thread by Joe Carrick which closely resembles the issue, but saw no solution. Is there a workaround for this? Thanks.

Eric - I didn't get that error message the first time, but did after restarting. That worked. Thanks.

I've created a recessed toilet paper holder for a client that is to go in the lower section of a pony wall (below shower glass) - see attached. The new symbol (also attached) works fine on a standard wall, but not on a pony wall. I've even tried using a wall niche to give me the cut-out, but no luck there either. Anyone got any ideas on how I do this? Thanks, Kevin Recessed Toilet Paper Holder.calibz

I've got a vanity mirror that wraps along the back wall and two sides - see attached. The mirror material will only reflect once - more than that I get a gray color. I'm guessing this single reflection is all that's possible unless I raytrace? Even still, is there a way to change the gray color to something else - like say white? Thanks, Kevin

Thank you Eric!
-
Thanks Mark. This looks like precisely what I need. I appreciate the file - will study tonight.
-
Eric - are you using jambs or a frame to define the glass area with no sash on the window or have you removed the frame and altered the sash to define the frame? How did you get the offset window to "share" a common frame with the sidelight? This is what I have been unable to do. Kevin
-
Looks good Gene. This is what I am hoping to do.
-
It's set to "0". Still giving me problems. I think I can model it to more closely resemble the unit outside of Chief.

Thanks Michael. I'll try importing as fixture and adjust the cut-out. Kevin
