  1. Excel is one program that I use a lot of. I built an entire estimating program that I use for my business. I started building it with windows 3.0 about 25 years ago and have improved on it over the years. But I only figure out what I really need or want and I keep it as simple as I can. I find that all the estimating programs I have looked at in the past are way to intense and I wouldn't use 90% of the stuff they put in it. I have actually thought about marketing what I have built because of how simple (but not to simple) it is and you can adapt it to whatever type of construction you do but you have to put your own data into it to make it work. So it keeps you stream lined. My Point: I would like to make my estimating program so it will automatically generate a proposal off of it. I think that I may need to use macros to do it but not sure at this point. That's why I'm so interested in understanding macros.
  2. Joe I know that you can also build macros in Microsoft excel. Can you tell me the difference between what a macro is and what excel uses to calculate sums? I use math only on a very basic level just enough to do what I need to get the job done but I find myself interested in learning more.
  3. Some guys just have that gift to program. I am not a programmer so I rely on others to do that part for me and I don't mind paying for it. You find your niche (gift) and you stick with it. Joe, I could be wrong but I'm guessing that you shared with us that knowledge because you are trying to help us better understand macros. I have been researching ruby macros and trying to understand the concept and how it came about and with that information and what you just explained I understand what it is but I still get lost in the equation part of it. I was never good at HTML coding either. You did a very good job explaining it but I will most likely have to rely on other to do the custom stuff for me. Thank You
  4. I don't understand why the automatic settings with CA puts a living area label with sq. ft. "0" for a detached garage when it doesn't have living space?
  5. You saved me a lot of time! I went thru preferences earlier and I don't know why I didn't think of reset. I'm trying to develop a process of trouble shooting when I have theses issues. I guess that will come in time. I'm getting better thanks to the guys in this forum. Despite the teasing
  6. When I opened the preferences to rest and I pick the one that said reset side windows instead. Seem to make more sense and it worked. I'm always afraid of resets because I don't want to screw up my custom tool bars. Still not sure if your suggestion of resting the size of dialog would have done it also? Thank You
  7. I tried this before hand and it didn't do it.
  8. OK, OK! I forgot to attached the picture. I would loose m head if it wasn't attached. The boxes are checked but my layer set is missing. Can anyone tell me the mystery of the missing layer set? I'm stumped

  10. Scratch that last comment I maid about you Perry. HaHa!
  11. Your right, that's pretty clear.
  12. Perry, I really appreciate your loyalty to CA. You set a good example. Thank You
  13. Greg, Thanks for the nice detail. I'm going to use it I'm doing some lighting that is recessed into the ceiling and the opening is 6' octagon shape with radius bead. I know how to make it work to look right in 3D but it would be easier to just check a box that say's "Radius Corners" or "Square Corners". How nice would that be! Thanks Guys. I guess I knew what the answer would be.
  14. Can the program be setup to do radius corners (drywall radius corner bead)?
  15. This only protects them from others trying to make money on there product. Doesn't say anything about giving what you bought to someone else. Don't think there is a law against that.
  16. The biggest thing that gives me the most Greif with CA is foundations. Hopefully in version 8 they will make some improvements. I know everyone has a long list.
  17. Is there anything in the license agreement stating that we cant share libraries? He paid for his version so he should be able to get the manufactures libraries for at least that version. Only a thought and question. Not trying to step on toes
  18. I like that intersection tool. That is a great addition to the program.
  19. Got it! But I had to use the wall break tool and intersection tool to get it to work.
  20. I changed all them but the one in the front will not corporate
  21. It shows in my picture that I posted that the foundation in the raised area seems to be part of the foundation all the way across the front. You can see where I selected it in the picture
  22. Yes, that was my question a couple of post ago. How do I make that happen?
  23. Not sure what you mean. Are you talking about the 6" curb I have going around the garage?
  24. Thank you Tommy, See you tonight in our meeting
  25. Another question; Is there a quick way to make the entry way foundation depth match the rest of the footings? I always struggle with the altering slab foundations.
