  1. The framing actually looks good..and correct. I think what we are seeing protruding through the ceiling has something to do with the soffit. This has been an issue in the past...which I thought they fixed. But - maybe not for every situation.

I'm surprised you aren't using any "Saved Plan Views". You are working way too hard...

  2. Change the text style in the "roof label" layer.  I'm guessing but you probably annotated your roof plan at 1/4" and sent to layout at 1/8". You need to make the roof label text 2X (or thereabouts) larger than the 1/4" text style.

    Just sent you a video...

  3. Rob - that looks good and yes, P-Solids are great for these types of situations.

Although, now the owner will probably ask you to change the roof pitch to 8/12...and you're back to changing the P-solids. :)

  4. The problem is the post to beam railing wall. The frieze does not like to extend along the beam. Also...it's not a "real" beam...it's just a hollow rectangle with a material applied....I wish Chief would improve this feature.

Can you raise the roof just a bit...I created a quick test plan with an 8/12 pitch. I had to raise it about 4" to get a 5.5" frieze to work properly. You can also do a back clipped section close to the surface of the gable wall, open the roof trim layer and unlock it...then you can edit the roof trim frieze.

  5. I used a PC for 25 years but when I retired my son talked me into purchasing a Mac. It did take a bit to understand how it works but there are thousands of “how to” Mac videos on YouTube you should be able to get up to speed quickly. (Search for MacMost on YouTube…he does great videos)

No need for parallels…Chief works flawlessly on a Mac.

  6. @Ed_Orum - I opened your plan and rebuilt the foundation. You have your foundation set to build to the face of your stone veneer on your pony wall...therefore, the foundation will be the width of your building...plus the distance to the face of the veneer.

Steve is not really showing you how to do it automatically, but is showing you how to manually use the gable roof line tool to modify the auto-gen roof your plan delivered using your settings.  And it would be also beneficial if Steve @SNestor to show us his method for getting this roof to auto-gen with the main gables at 5:12 and the center cross at 12:12.

@GeneDavis - In the video at about the 26 second mark you can see how I changed the pitch using the gable roof line tool. If you double click the gable line, it opens and and allows you to specify the pitch you want the gable roof to be. In this case I made it 10/12.

    Hope that helps!

  8. If you attempt to paint a solid color over a material that has a texture...then, once you select the material using the "spray can"...if you look along the bottom toolbar you will see a "roller". This tool allows you to blend the solid color with the material with a the texture.

  9. For the love of God, give us improvements to the stair tool. Real improvements…not new flashy unnecessary add-ons.

All the other new features are appreciated…;)

  10. Ceiling planes are polylines...you could use cad polylines to act as break areas for a single ceiling plane. Might be worth a try.

In this image...I've highlighted a ceiling plane. If you click the blue cad polyline you can use the "subtraction" tool to break the ceiling plane along the wall edges.
