  1. When I was changing the interior walls I had moved some objects outside temporarily. It is not set as invisible and can be forced to rebuild correctly, but will vanish without notice. Brandenburg07.plan
  2. Does any one know why this happens? I can select the wall and open its settings and then close the settings an the wall rebuilds and shows correctly. But it continues to do this randomly.
  3. I had my floor plan disappear, but I could see it in a 3D view. I was puzzled and carefully looked for and read this thread for clues. Then I noticed I was on floor "A". Duh. I don't remember changing to A before closing the file, but then again it is Monday morning.
  4. So are you saying that I cannot extract that information from the model unless I manually draw it? All that information is already in the model, there must be a way use it in an estimate without having to draw it manually. BTW, What is a room polygon?
  5. Which is a better way to build a two story space: Make tall walls with the windows stacked as one story? Or build a second story wall and make the plan open to below with windows on both floors? Also the high space is not a full story height in every area, but some is, so this does affect how the roof is built.
  6. How can I do a materials calculations list of plank floor for a certain style of plank floor minus the space taken up by the cabinetry in a kitchen or even the whole house?
  7. The "Living Area" that autogenerates when you create a space is modified or updated when you make changes to usable floor space. Is there a way to shade the area that it is calculating? Then how can we know what the net space or the gross that includes non-heated space, such as a garage? How do we know what the "Living Area" is covering? Yes, it would be nice for an area/volume tool that can be shaded. Archicad calls it the Zone tool.
  8. However I do have a rather complex roof design and I could use some help. First and second floors are 9', but the great room is open with its roof bearing at 12'. In some places the roof is on the 9' bearing. There is also a storage room over the garage with attic space over the low eaves. Then there are real dormers over the garage that include the storage space. Right now it is a mess and I am sloooowly learning. If any of you are familiar with what I am talking about, I would appreciate any tips. Battjes01.plan
  9. It was not changing, but I was not rebuilding the roof and walls. I do not have auto-rebuild roof on. So I found I need to tell it to rebuild withe the roof tool.
  10. I used the auto roof tool toe add roof. I need end gables, but they won't change. What might I be missing?
  11. Thanks Lew, but that is the part I already knew. I found a video that really solved the problem. Not sure if the link will work here or for everybody. http://video-cdn.chiefarchitect.com/45ba2c277dfd384a4ed9b3724cfcdd85.mp4?Expires=1410279084&Key-Pair-Id=APKAJTIA4XHSXCDALTGA&Signature=BNl0pq1JaIhaaXa-4XRvG2WrQb2vapkkkycJP5nu11HtKyIETzoZHQrEmdyvDfgWZbN~APVvKvSZFxKY65Zfmo~e~Ohm4PLVzFHbhUG0um-4~9Fp4IBv08VLsEf8299yP5gAaTzSqtXYjsKDmR7BS3bzWgv0j-wXc5PNLspLm0g_
  12. I know from previous posts that an occupied attic is really a floor level, but what is the recommended way to build a floor with the roof from the first lining up with the second (attic) floor roof?
  13. Looks like you may have the "child tool pallet" option selected. Once I changed to that, it worked. Thanks
  14. I am running windows CA X6, I do not have that icon on the tool bar. I do have it in the Build menu, but I cannot double click on it. There are a number of other tools in its place that are related. I tried double clicking on all of them. Nothing is getting me to a place to change a clg.
  15. I am not seeing a floor tools icon. Hints?
  16. I have a fully developed floor plan with floor to clg at 8 ft now I need to make it 9 ft. What is the easy way to make the change?
  17. FYI tip: Some of you may know this but it was extremely helpful to me. On Windows Vista, 7, and 8 use the built-in "Snipping Tool" (search at the start menu) You can do various snips: free form, rectangular, window and full screen. Select your area and a window pops up to save. On Mac, press "command-shift-4" then click-drag over the area you want and the image is automatically saved to the desktop. This makes it super easy to share an image on the forum.
  18. At one juncture in my plan I have a 12x12 column with in an invisible wall and an interior wall. The invisible wall wants to react with the visible wall will do strange cuts to the wall so I had to spend much time tweaking the layout for these items to coexist peaceably Another location on the plan I have an room divider with no thickness and as soon as I draw it, it becomes thick like a regular wall with materials, but invisible. Maybe I don't need it, but it is a porch with a roof. In some other places I did not have trouble with the wall adopting a thickness. So I drew the single lined room divider away from the location and then moved it in, but it became thick again. Is this a bug? Attached files:
  19. This problem could be a great feature if I know what happened. I carefully placed several double hungs and then placed one fixed window after that I noticed that all my windows that were once DH are now fixed. What did I do? and how do I avoid this again?
  20. I solved it! Click and hold the mouse button down while moving around and release when you see the correct swing direction. EASY!
  21. Most of the time I insert an interior door the "ghost door" hinge side turns the wrong direction and I have to flip it. Why wont it "know" to place the hinge close to the wall corner? Is there an option to make this happen? It would seem that the door should know to turn as it does know to leave space for trim when it is close to a wall. Todd
  22. If I use large arrows, they will show, but not ticks or dots. Why?
  23. I agree, but I have been doing testing in other features with no results that I can see, yet may be changing other things not related. It is like moving into a new house and trying out all the light switches and finding one that seems to go to nothing until the neighbor comes over and says "Cut it out!"
  24. The dims will break at each interior wall on each side giving room dims and will show ticks at exterior wall on interior surface.
