So this for a dashed line to ensure that a portion of the line draws at the endpoints?
-
What does this setting do? Is it like overshooting corners as a drafting style?
-
I did use the arrow keys and it jumped more. I am in Layout creating a titleblock

I have a jpeg logo with a line in it. I am trying to move the jpeg to line up with a vector line, but it keeps jumping either side of the line. Is there a way to fine tune the movement or an easy way to get them to line up?

You are right Lew. https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/1857-chief-on-a-server-or-not/

We have multiple computer locations in the office and out of the office. Is there any recommendations for managing access to common files like projects, catalogs, templates or whatever I would not want to duplicate or miss by relocating to another computer? Please advise. Todd

I drew a wall to make it easy to insert cabinets for an island then deleted the wall. The floor and ceiling had holes in the finish material where the wall was. How can this be corrected?
-
I can pick one and shift click to get more, but how do I marque select all the cabinets on an elevation? When I drag a marque over, nothing is selected. But a video says that I should be able to group select.

How do I get manufacturer's catalog items/objects if they are not in the CA catalog library online to download? Is there a process to get them into CA and make them catalog items?
-
What is the difference? Does CA sort them out? I downloaded the Core and some manufacturer's catalogs, but how do I get Bonus material?

I was able to select all the walls that I wanted to move and then change the dimension that was wrong and everything selected move and the wrong wall "stretched" to the right size. I would imagine it to be more difficult to do with more stuff on the plan.

After putting a house plan, I noticed that I added one inch too much in the middle of two complex parts of the floor plan. The only way I know change dimensions of a wall in to change the dim line and keep going around the plan until everything is adjusted. It would be a painful process to go around the plan and adjust all the dimensions, when they are all correct, just to change the middle section by one inch. In Acad, you can draw a stretching window and drag all into place. How do I do this in Chief?

I have been frustrated by the training material of Softplan as well as the less intuitive command structure and older method of data management. I spent only 12 hours training on SP and 2.5 hours on CA and was able to do so much more in that 2.5 hours with CA and felt like slogging through mud on SP. I have 25 years of CAD experience with both good and bad programs. I can tell pretty quick which is going to work for me. CA work a lot like Archicad in concept, while SP is more like a pumped up (better) version of Autocad, sort of. I think SP has the power to do much of the same, but it was taking too long. Besides, I like the forum here.

So does this work if I forget to shutdown CA on the computer at work and need to open CA at home?

Just bought a license of Chief. I have Windows at work and Mac at home. Do I need to deactivate each one before I can use the other? Do I need to put in the product key each time (first time for me)? When trying to activate my mac at home I was not able to do anything until I deactivated my PC at work, which I did remotely on line. Is this the normal way others do this? What happens to the PC version when I deactivate remotely? If there is a recommended method for this process, I would like to know. (In the mean time I am thrilled not to be using Softplan, which has been the office app for decades) Thank you

Can Anyone Compare Chief To Turbocad Pro Or Softplan ?
4hotshoez replied to Fun2Learn's topic in General Q & A
You may want to consider Chief Architect Interiors ($2000) you can compare features at http://www.chiefarchitect.com/products/compare.html . Then upgrade later if the need arises. -
Can Anyone Compare Chief To Turbocad Pro Or Softplan ?
4hotshoez replied to Fun2Learn's topic in General Q & A
Fun2Learn, For the same features, Softplan is more money if you add in SoftList and Softplan+, which is already in Chief Architect Premier. I have also been researching for a CAD program in residential. I have used Autocad and Archicad for many many years and know them both well. Autocad LT 2015 ($1200) is old style 2D drafting and expensive for what it can't do and a waist of time. Archicad 18 ($4,995) is expensive, easy to learn and works in 3D to create 2D layouts. It is a very nice program for both design and documentation, but way over qualified for kitchen design. Sketchup Pro 2014 ($590) is great for design, very easy to use and learn, has a vast 3D library of anything in the world. There are excellent FREE training material available across the web, but it lacks the short cuts that aid (wall tool, cabinet tool, roof tool, etc) in building a home model as quick as Chief (you can load free & not free plug-ins to do these things). Sketchup's 2D documentation creation is improving and nearly ready for prime-time, but not yet. Chief Architect X6 has the tools, this great forum, excellent training material, and a fairly intuitive command structure (not as clean as Sketchup). Chief will also do ray-trace (realistic lighting) renderings for presentations. Softplan 2014 has the tools, but it has an old data structure and not so intuitive command structure (methods for building and editing a design) and their training material will put you to sleep. -
Barton said: For a multi-user environment, not sure how dropbox handles file locking but I don't think you would want more than one user actively modifying any project file at once. I would not have more than one user modifying a project at one time, but I would likely be working hard on a presentation to show a client and then immediately go into the conference room with the client to show the project on that computer. If the file changed at my desktop, I am not sure if the server or dropbox would make the update quick enough.

I thought about Dropbox. I may need to try that. The office has a server already, but It might be nice to use Dropbox to keep everything up to date with minimal effort.

On my free version of Sketchup 8 for Mac I can export *.KZM (google earth) or *.DAE (collada) only.

I was asked how Chief works on a server. I know Chief can be loaded on as many computers as desired but what about project files and libraries? The server can be slow to work from. What works for a configuration of multiple locations and users of the same projects?
-
I would assume that any discrepancy between the PC and Mac version will eventually be worked out since Chief is new to Mac. Does anyone know if this the plan? ...I hope.
-
I saw that someone else posted that the Mac version of Chief will not allow for Sketchup to be imported. Is this true? As I have a Mac trial version and I cannot import Sketchup. I figured it was the trial version limitation.
-
you need the Pro version of Sketchup to save as DWG.

How many files does Softplan and Chief use multiple files to create a single model for multiple floors and then 2D documents? Or do they lump everything into one for both 2D and 3D? For example, Autocad is all one file for building and layouts unless you use external references, but multiple floors are best handled in separate files.
