Why Do I Keep Being Asked To Post A Picture Of My Issue?
Richard_Morrison replied to Gawdzira's topic in General Q & A
Dan, I think you meant to say, "01010010 01100101 01101101 01100101 01101101 01100010 01100101 01110010 00101100 00100000 01110100 01101000 01100101 01110010 01100101 00100000 01100001 01110010 01100101 00100000 01101111 01101110 01101100 01111001 00100000 00110001 00110000 00100000 01110100 01111001 01110000 01100101 01110011 00100000 01101111 01100110 00100000 01110000 01100101 01101111 01110000 01101100 01100101 00100000 01101001 01101110 00100000 01110100 01101000 01100101 00100000 01110111 01101111 01110010 01101100 01100100 00111010 00100000 01110100 01101000 01101111 01110011 01100101 00100000 01110111 01101000 01101111 00100000 01110101 01101110 01100100 01100101 01110010 01110011 01110100 01100001 01101110 01100100 00100000 01100010 01101001 01101110 01100001 01110010 01111001 00101100 00100000 01100001 01101110 01100100 00100000 01110100 01101000 01101111 01110011 01100101 00100000 01110111 01101000 01101111 00100000 01100100 01101111 01101110 00100111 01110100 00101110" -
One problem I have logging in is with my iPhone. When I am in the forum not logged in, and then go to the login page, I type name and password, but then the login page doesn't go back to the forum. I am trapped on the login page. BTW, this is only with the mobile version, doesn't happen with the desktop version of the forum software, and has started happening fairly recently. Maybe related?

Why Do I Keep Being Asked To Post A Picture Of My Issue?
Richard_Morrison replied to Gawdzira's topic in General Q & A
Dear Mathophobe: Remember, there are only 10 types of people in the world: those who understand binary, and those who don't. -
I wasted a LOT of time last night trying to figure out why all of my flooring materials and ceilings woudn't display in my camera views, no matter what I did, including trying to eyedropper new materials on the OSB floor sheathing. (No effect.) In desperation, I tried turning on all layers, and suddenly everything reappeared. After tracking down the offending layer, turns out it was the ROOMS layer. Where were we told that floor and ceiling materials are tied in 3D to the ROOMS layer? I searched the forums, and it seems that I am the only person in the world who has had this problem, but just in case someone else bumps into this, here is the answer in advance.

Move Component Columns? Change Schedule For Item?
Richard_Morrison replied to MarkMc's topic in General Q & A
Mark, I think you may be missing adding the actual text of what you want in the "Description" column on the accessory "mods" row when you open the Components DBX. EDIT: Also, are you clicking on "Add" in lower left corner of Components DBX? You should be. To be more explicit, when you open the Components DBX of an object, you will ADD an accessory, and set its subcategory to "Mods". Then go to the "Description" column and edit to be whatever you want. Then that description should show up in the Mods column of the schedule. Hope that helps. -
Move Component Columns? Change Schedule For Item?
Richard_Morrison replied to MarkMc's topic in General Q & A
Mark, I think what is being suggested has some merit. Add a subcategory called "Mods" to the material list under Cabinets. Then just add a "Mods" Accessory to each cabinet. The "Mods" subcategory can be added to your schedule. Hope that's clear. BTW, you could also add subcategories like "Side Panel", "Valance", etc. and then add these to the schedule as a column. Then just add a "Valance" accessory called "X". The "X" would then show up under the schedule's "Valance" column. You might also also consider playing around with setting up the Material List Report to get just what you want for ordering purposes. -
Move Component Columns? Change Schedule For Item?
Richard_Morrison replied to MarkMc's topic in General Q & A
Mark, Sadly, I don't think there is any way to alter the component spreadsheet to make the "comments" column easily accessible. Typically scheduled information really should be accessible from the object DBX, not the component DBX. -
Well, I think I may have found my problem. The surveyor's boundaries had a typo, with a minute number over 60, that I was blindly trying to type in without thinking. (N79d 87'W) Once the minute number got under 60 (duh), everything worked. However, I guess I would have preferred an error message to just drawing the line at a horizontal angle but at the correct length.

Archicad is the only one that really seems to have their act together with multiple people working on the same file. You can "check out" pieces of the project like a library book, and then return them after changes are made.
-
I am trying to input some property lines, but for some reason, the lines end up horizontal. For example, I input N79d 87'W, and it ends up N90dW. Any idea of what could be going on? I've never experienced this before. I've tried in both plan view and a detail view. Same result.

dshall, Probably one of your best videos. I'll give you a point for this one.

Second floor overhang causes weirdness on floor below

Thanks, Curt. I have no idea how you figured out what the problem was, but it definitely fixed it. That's one checkbox I haven't paid much attention to. -
Controlling Where Dimensions Measure From
Richard_Morrison replied to Quinkles's topic in General Q & A
Joe, No talking golf here on this forum. Don't make me stop this car! -
Ah, but Chief has a sales/customer service Skype address now, so that's pretty free.

Controlling Where Dimensions Measure From
Richard_Morrison replied to Quinkles's topic in General Q & A
I am absolutely outraged -- OUTRAGED, I tell you -- that my name has not been invoked in connection with grumpiness. There may pretenders to the title of "curmudgeon", but only one original. -
Well, having been through this before, it's not an $895 "transfer fee." You are paying to upgrade the additional (previously discounted) license to a full license first. This is the bulk of the cost. I believe that only full licenses may be transferred, but not certain. For me, at least, SSA was optional for the new purchaser but highly recommended.

It seems that alternate behavior (i.e. using the right mouse button) in the Multiple Copy only does an array. In other words, if you hit multiple copy for a selected object and drag with the right button, you first get the primary offset, then when you let go, it starts copying with the secondary (alternate) offset. It works the same way for multiple copying of framing members. According to Tech Support, this is the way it's SUPPOSED to work. This is just crazy. Who is copying arrays of floor joists, rafters, or studs? (Or arrays of anything at all?) My recollection with earlier versions (at least at some point in the past) is that you could set up rafters, say, with 24" as the primary offset and 16" as the secondary offset, so that multiple copying with the left mouse button would get copies at 24" and the right mouse button would get copies at 16". What the hell has happened to this? Has my memory gone awry? (Wait, don't answer that!)

Is there a way to turn off Auto-Room Name Behavior?
Richard_Morrison replied to Cheryl_C_Crane's topic in General Q & A
I agree it's annoying, but if you have a bunch, you can use the Show/Load Same on the Edit toolbar and just single-click the room labels off one by one, rather than opening each room. -
I loaded the iOS version, and was immediately underwhelmed. The room popped up, and I attempted to change the dimension by typing it in. A notice popped up that I needed to buy a "dimension add-on" for $1.99. Really?? The first thing I try I am already being hit up for money? I immediately uninstalled it. Not an app worth waiting for, IMO.
-
That seems to have fixed it! Good catch! (But hope you'll be able to bring back the larger icons eventually.)
-
Okay, here's a quick capture.
-
See if this helps, though. I wasn't able to capture the configuration (pretty much a straight extended toolbar config.), but it does show what the "blink" looks like when the cabinet is selected in 3D. http://youtu.be/NBx5U-CV0s0
-
Brian, How would we do this? The white screen in the 3D window isn't around long enough to do a screen shot.
-
For some reason, the latest upgrade is causing this "blinking" behavior for me. Either I didn't notice it before, or it's much worse. Anybody found a way to stop it? I find it incredibly annoying.
