  1. Are you talking about the CoreMaterials? (which I see there.)
  2. Yes, they did say this. But as Johnny mentioned above, Dropbox isn't providing data off of a server or network for DIRECT use in your system, All of the data that Chief uses is coming off of your local hard drive.
  3. What I can tell you is that Dropbox is really, really fast. I recall that Carbonite used to take DAYS to back up a hard drive, and afterwards it is faster. I don't know anything about the technology, but at this point, I can tell you that although the initial sync might have taken a minute or two, my 1.4 GB User Library now completes syncing in a few seconds, if I make a change.
  4. Dropbox keeps an archive of all files for even the Free version for 30 days. If you upgrade to a Business account, as I understand it, it will keep a history of unlimited number of files for an unlimited amount of time.
  5. I've had the Data folder in Dropbox for years without a problem. (At least that I know of.) It's nice to be able to update the User Library and any Hotkey changes, etc. to all computers at the same time. Dropbox is fast enough that it can sync a large User Library very quickly; I believe some of the other services like Drive, etc. take significantly longer. Mike, the Data Folder is just the user modified data. The core, bonus, and manufacturer libraries are still on the main hard drive.
  6. I'd suggest you create a separate text style called "Layout Box Label" and assign it to the Layout Box Labels layer, which will be available when you've got a layout open. Then your default layout text style still will be available for other things.
  7. It's worth remembering that you can easily add a dimension for a line with no extensions, and put it on a layer with a white color, in any newly created dimension style you want (the dimension text should be defined as black, though, for the style; if "by layer" it will turn white and disappear), and even add the bearing as leading text. When you stretch the line, the dimension will change accurately, although the bearing, which is just text, won't. But this will let you have as many dimension styles in a single view as you want, and you can mix and match text sizes, number of decimal points, etc.
  8. I suspect the post count on the forum is not working properly. There were a few posts by "ecampos" on the Chatroom, and I noticed that his/her posts still show as zero.
  9. Because you'll get the same terrain behavior if it's an actual room with windows, like a breakfast room, which may come up in the future. Why would you teach someone to use a half-baked approach when doing it correctly is just as easy, and gives you more flexibility and works in every situation?
  10. The one caveat about all this is that occasionally the SAM method going across versions can cause problems. Usually, it's fine, but I have had at least one instance where layers were renamed by Chief during a version change, and one layer became completely inaccessible. Also, you may find yourself with material references that need to be updated. Maybe Chief is storing everything in the plan now (I don't know), but I've had materials in an older plan referencing an X4 file, say, and need to be individually updated.
  11. Well, this is one of the more slimy solutions. You upload a model, and then you are quoted a price before they go ahead and process it. Ummm, I don't think so.
  12. You draw a closed polyline where you want the terrrain cut, and change the polyline to a terrain feature hole. The problem with making a wall "No Room Definition" is that, well, you lose the room definition, and the associated information, like room name, square footage, etc.
  13. This is for my clients, not myself, so I'm not excited about a paid version. (like qrvr.io). IrisVR look promising since they have a free version, but it looks like a client would have to sign up for an account. I'm looking for a site where I could just upload a model and send a link.
  14. That would be part of the viewer software, which is really not part of X9. I've been playing around with trying to export to different software until Chief's Google Cardboard works. www.modelo.io seems promising, but it's still a little buggy. (Chief exports to.DAE >.SKP 2016>modelo.io required.) Sketchfab is another I've tried, but there is significant z-fighting, and navigation seems difficult. Any programs that work well with Google Cardboard?
  15. Open the terrain specification and uncheck "Hide Terrain Intersected by Building."
  16. Anyone who actually knows would be prevented from discussing it here because of the NDA they signed.
  17. General Plan Defaults>Ignore Casing for Opening Resize has gotten checked somehow.
  18. Any improvement, no matter how small, is always welcome.
  19. There is a trick that's been around for quite awhile, if you want to take it up a notch. You can add windows with custom muntins to a solid wall, and pretty much get whatever you want. A guy named Alan Cheng (wonder what's happened to him?) was a master. See some of his work here: http://www.chieftalk.com/showthread.php?21174-wrought-iron Sadly, I note that some of his earlier work no longer has the images available in the old Chieftalk. A big loss.
  20. I've been using join.me for years. Not the point. Letting a client do walkarounds on their own time, and then having them be able to show designs to their friends (an excellent marketing tool) - WITHOUT giving them the actual .PLAN file is invaluable. When Google Cardboard gets incorporated, then I think Chief Architect will really have something.
  21. Great news! I just heard from Scott Harris that up to 99 3D Viewer models are now free! Makes Chief an even better value.
  22. "Ridiculous prices" seems a bit unfair considering that ArchiCAD SOLO is $2,500 vs. Chief Premier at $2,695. I don't like paying extra for Chief's 3D Viewer model storage, but both programs' add-ons are optional. Also, you can get all 7 Cadimage add-ons for $49/mo. or two of your choice for $29/mo. Not THAT expensive. I think Chief still does a better job at providing a complete residential OOTB solution, though.
  23. Like every version so far, Chief will give us things we love, and things we are disappointed with, and they will be different for everybody. There probably will be a public beta before the final release for everyone who is on SSA (at least they've done that in the past), so you can all make up your own minds. I think you need to look at overall productivity, rather than whether they gave you the stair features or the callouts you really, really wanted, and see whether another program will be any faster for the type of work you do. Some things will always be more annoying in one program vs. another. ArchiCAD, for example, can do just about anything, but there are so many variables and parameters to adjust, that the added complexity may not be worth the benefits. You might spend an hour more in Chief for the stairs you want than you would have in ArchiCAD, but if you then are spending 3 hours twiddling with various other settings in ArchiCAD, are you really ahead? If you really need canted walls, though, you might not have many choices.
