I have downloaded CAX10 on my Microsoft Surface Pro 3 tablet and used my fingers to draw with. It is a little bit awkward but it does work to some extent even with a stylus. I did an as built measure up with a Motion Computing rugged tablet (Windows) about 15 years ago. Was using CA and a stylus to do it. I am also looking at getting an IPad Pro for as built surveys. It would certainly be great if CA worked on IOS or even a more compact program like the Home Designer ? Maybe someone could make a suggestion for a new CA Home Designer as built app for IPad ?

Yes I agree, and not only that but the structural integrity of the floor truss framing member remains intact with a full span and depth and with proper supports at each end. You could just increase the floor to ceiling height if need be to accommodate the trey ceiling ?

This is true but it depends on the type of user that you are. If you are a more in the line of construction and so much in the 3D presentation you may opt for SP. CA is much better for 3D presentation from what I gather from other professional users on this forum.

I have a very old HP 24 inch monitor connected to my M1 Max studio via HDMI. I am not sure if the MacBook has a HDMI port ? I would first ensure that the drivers for your monitors are up to date and compatible with the apple OS that you are using. You might need to talk to an IT professional ? edited: Your MacBook only has USBC ports, will another type of adapter work that is compatible with your Samsung monitor ?

SSA beta must be different to private beta. Always going to be some surprises in X16 and 3D dimensions is just one leaked clue. We just have to wait till it’s our turn to find out. If you got SSA you probably will not have to wait as long as me. Still it’s good to see CA getting better and better.

Nice work @glennw, would it still work by pulling the edges of the valley away a bit from the valley line and then creating a sloping molding profile so you can lower it ?

Looks like Eric solved your basic problem with NRD = No Room Definition, instead of open below. Unfortunately with CA you need to build your model with the conventional methods otherwise you will get all those difficulties that Eric has highlighted in his video. Once you get used of using those conventional methods, things will get better.

I understand now what they were talking about. The manually edited wall will usually hold it height after ceiling height changes are made. 10 feet minus 8 feet 7 inches is 17 inches too short not 14 inches, is that right ? Thank you for the clarification.

Hi, I am very late to this post but I have a question regarding changing the wall height in the 3D window. I realize that this question above was asked when CAX11 was the current version. I watched a few videos on the new features in CAX11,12,13 & 14 from Chief Experts and saw Dan edit a wall in 3D. I’m not sure which version he was demonstrating but I think he said that “when you edit a wall height, the room definition changes and you can no longer auto rebuild the room” or something to that effect ??? I haven’t been able to find that video again and it may have been on the new features in CAX11 ??? Does anyone know what this is about or what version he may have been demonstrating ? It’s annoying not being able to find that resource again. I have conducted several tests in CAX10 and X15 trial with adjusting a wall up past the default ceiling height in 3D (single story house) and I can’t see that affecting the room definitions ??? Could be a special case or in a two story dwelling maybe ??? Thank you for any help in advance.

Maybe save one 3D plan model for presentations and another for framing and take off ? At least that is what I have started to do.

Hi @HeatherMcK, this design of yours has raked ceilings as shown by your section and this becomes a special case. As @solversays you can achieve that by lowering and raising your roof planes accordingly to the desired floor to rafter pitching point height. To get to 6 foot 4 inches on the wall where your arrow is. You would need to cut a section through your model and draw that line exactly where it is on the section above. That dashed dotted line is not at your floor level so you need a dimension from that line down to the floor as well. That should give you a reference point to know if your current roof height is set correctly. In order to help, you need to provide a dimension directly under the 6’4” dimension down to the floor level. Have fun. @DBCooper, nailed it on the head about what could be done with DWG/DXF export import. The time spent on 3D modeling again in a CA earlier version may be worth spending the money on the 50% off 1st year upgrade ??? Especially If it involves more than just a single project. I don’t know of many 3D/CAD systems that are backwards compatible or what’s involved in the process but worth researching. In the US the upgrade cost may actually be worth it and could eventually be recuperated too ???

Hi @HeatherMcK, click on your room with the single window and have a look at the structure tab, floor to ceiling heights. Then adjust accordingly (Deduct that value you have above in your post). If there are other rooms on that story then do the same for them. Then you will have to click and select all your top story roof planes and open them up and change the height setting by deducting the amount you have specified above once again. That should lower your roof planes. Hope this helps ? Hi @augusdo63, Please post your plan so @SNestor can take a look at what is causing those windows to disappear above your entry. It looks like you have a void or a double height entry on the inside as well ? By just looking at your 3D view above, I would try looking at that entry wall and go into the structure panel of that wall and check the Ballooning radio button. Then try again to see if those windows remain. Then try a few more settings in the structure panel to see if it builds as you want. If that doesn’t work you may post your plan. Clean up just means tidying things up that might be making your model not build or display correctly in 3D.

Hi @pj42pj42, can be controlled in a number of ways, by setting categories and by layers defining what is to be included in the ML. CA is very strong with timber framing, cabinets and quantity take off along with estimating. Also it is well organized and very user friendly, it has an automated framing system but you can use that then just edit the framing to suit your individual needs where possible. You may need to do your 3D connection details in Solidworks or some other specialized app. Have fun researching. Edited: As with all software you need to learn how to use it correctly otherwise it can be quite frustrating. Learning the tricks of CA can take some time becuase it is highly automated. At times you need to back track and make sure all your defaults are set correctly in order to build your 3D model correctly. There really is no perfect CAD software that will do it all with out using some work arounds.

Here is a link to a trial version of CAX15 if you haven’t already downloaded it. Give it a try I know many others import objects created in SU. Fine detail 3D framing modeling can probably be done with polyline solids in CA. But those suggestions above sound cool about Medeek BIM. I might also investigate. Hi @NeilofOZ, Try this texture from PHG Bricks, it is a jpeg file. For CA use a Texture Ratio of, x = 1200mm, y = 1092mm. I tested it in X15 trial and no problems in the full camera.
