Are there videos out there explaining how to create symbols that can be used in CA? Would not want to have to buy additional software.

I like using standard walls and then applying polyline solids to them so you can control the thickness of each tile being used. This give you a more realistic view of the materials applied. The other big advantage is that in elevation view you get your to scale tile deign to review with the homeowner, get an exact tile take off and gives your tile installer a great row by row tile install plan. Also you have the ability to add text with call outs for each tile. It may take a little bit more time but I have found it to well worth the time to eliminate any homeowner or installer confusion with how the tile will look completed. I also include these layouts in our contract and have them approve & sign off. See attached Rob

Greg. THANK YOU VERY MUCH. This was totally unexpected and I was not expecting someone to take the time to create a custom symbol. I wish I knew how to create these as I am always needing something especially light fixtures. Can I pay you for your time? Rob

Mick & Others, Thanks for your input / suggestions... The file name I give for example is "Beebe Design 1". We use a NAS drive in our office and the path name for this particular file is Y:\CAR Shared Folders\CAR Client Files\2015 Clients\Beebe\Plan Files\Final Plan Files. These length of a name is never an issue. It just when CA add the "_e5368972ddc94d0yp452de57fa613191fff7f55e0125cf74258fek9261c0de6" to the end of the file name is when it become an every time issue that will not allow a copy / paste, rename or delete. I have a backup program that runs every night to backup all files on our NAS drive to our business Drop Box system. Out of over 760GB of data, the ONLY files that will not backup are the CA archive files. To allow a full system backup to complete successfully, I have set the program to skip the CA archive folder. Kind of defeats the purpose of having an archive folder that can't be backed up in the event of a system crash. I guess I'll just have to live with it. I know it's a Windows 7 issue but CA has to share some of the issue with such a long (unknown) post file name added extension. Again, if that extension could be something like the date then dash 01, 02, 03, etc. so the file name could be something like... "Y:\CAR Shared Folders\CAR Client Files\2015 Clients\Beebe\Plan Files\Final Plan Files_031115-01. A 10 character extension versus the above 60 character extension I am NOT a programmer and don't know how these things work but would think something could be done since these are the ONLY files in our entire company with this issue. Thanks

There are several pre-made wall niches / nook to download from here. I have uploaded a plan that I inserted the one I have. There are square, arched, with & without trim and some are revered to the exterior. They already have the backs in them, you can edit the materials just like a door with casing. No reason to reinvent the wheel. Hope they are what you're looking for. Rob Recessed Wall Nook Set.plan

You are correct with the Window 7 character file size. When these files get backed up to drop box which adds one more path layer they start to exceed that allowable size.

Would anyone have a vanity light similar to this one? I have searched 3D and didn't find anything close. Thanks

I agree... the new icons look a bit "cartonish" if that a word and nowhere near as sharp even on my 27" monitor. Will get use to them but hate to see the nicer ones go.

I have been running in issues with doing system backups to Drop Box or from one drive to another with CA archive file names being too long that are not supported by Windows 7. Same issue when I try to delete, open or rename these files. IS there a way to specify what text, number sequence, etc. that CA automatically adds to the end of the file name? Here is an example: The file name I gave to this design is Beebe Design 1 but below is what is automatically placed in the CA archive folder C:\Users\Rob\Documents\Chief Architect Premier X6 Data\Archives\Beebe Design 1_e5368972ddc94d0yp452de57fa613191fff7f55e0125cf74258fek9261c0de6 What is the last string of text in the file name for? I could see something like... archive02152015 or similar. Thanks Rob

OK, Ive set edge smoothing to zero. As far as the graphic card settings nowhere does it show anything about DirectX
-
Is this what you're referring too. There is not a separate CA program setting for any past versions
-
Never have so not sure how to do that. Have never messed with the card settings

This was a fun kitchen to complete. First with floating shelves. A huge transformation from a Texas traditional rustic to more contemporary.

There is no built in card. Attached is the video card status

I've been using X-7 now for about a week and have noticed a huge computer speed slow down during raytracing in X-7. When Raytracing in X-6 I can barely notice any slowdown while using other programs with raytracing is going on in the background with X-6 minimized. I think I have a bit of a beast of a PC with dual higher end processors and graphics cards. However, when raytracing a view in X-7, I am having extreme slow downs in just trying to open other folders on my PC. When I open folders with project phots and try to open these photos, it will think about it for sometimes up top a minute and IF Windows Explorer doesnt become "Not Responding" and has to restart. When I switch back to X-6 with the same plan, same view, same raytrace all is back to normal without any issues. Seems X-7 is throwing up a big road block somewhere that is making me to just want to throw up. LOL. Attached are screen prints of my render & raytrace settings for both X-6 & X-7. Anyone have this issue, thoughts or solutions. Thanks as always to all the gurus out there. Rob

I have a 42" Samsung. Had my electrician come in and run a dedicated HDMI from our dedicated design PC that's in another room. Also an USB connect to use a mouse and keyboard. We tried wireless but had too much lag time and dropped connection thru walls.

Can anyone tell me why when after I drop several cabinets into a plan say along a wall then i go to resize them by either opening the cabinet and changing width in DBX or sliding them in elevation view there always seems to be one or two that have the countertop seam show. And on an island it is usually most of the cabinets when I butt them back to back. I never change the countertop over to flat back or side or the overhang. I have temporary changed them to flat just to experiment to see if it makes the seams go away but it never worked. The cabinets are all the same height and depth, there are no rounded corners and "use finished floor" is off on all. Attached are renderings of issue and the plan file. 1. Perry: File locking is on. 2. Graeme: Yes the file extension would be the same Y:\CAR Shared Folders\CAR Client Files\2015 Clients\Jones\Plan Files\As Builts The only difference is from two different PC's. Our system is a NAS drive 3. Matt: Yes.... we make a seperate folder inside the plans file folder more jpgs of appliance, fixture pics, exported elevations, etc. Y:\CAR Shared Folders\CAR Client Files\2015 Clients\Jones\Plan Files\Plan Spec Drawings

I need some help as to file management. Our office is on a network and It is myself and our designer that works on plans. The issue is when either of us completes a layout that has imported pics or specs when the other goes to open the layout they are not there and you get the box that says it can't find the files. All the files are located in the clients plan file folder on the network drive so we are both access them in the same saved location. The only difference is we are at two different PC's. It is a real pain when she asks me to review a plan and when I pull it up half of its missing.. As far as the libraries, I have always synced them one a week or so and haven't had too much problems.
