When I break the wall, and then try to drag it up, all of the garage walls go up with it.- 9 replies

Hmm, I have tried that but no joy. If you have done it, can post the file so I can see it?- 9 replies

In the attached images, I am trying to get a uniform height in the foundation walls where the garage attaches to the house. The wall section in question defaults to the garage structural detail. Any comments would be welcome.

Glenn, The idea here was a projection of an individual roof plane. Just imagine rotating the house so that you are perpendicular to the surface of the roof. That is what the contractor is looking for. One could then directly scale rafters along a ridge. This is a hip roof, not a gable roof. So he is looking for a rough cut list for each hip rafter. I see his point actually. Doug
-
So here I am again, back at the fountain of information. A contractor is asking for flat projections of roof plans to assist his carpenters in laying out the rafters. I can see how to do elevations, and I can see how to do plan views, but is there any way to do a skewed plan from horizontal projection or section for that matter? Hey Chopsaw, My user interface blew up. No icons and just a drawing window!
Any idea what I did wrong and how to restore the default interface?

Let me know how it goes as it seems to be happening to quite a few people recently. If it was definitely not user error you might want to talk to tech on Monday.

Thanks Chopsaw. It isn't quite what I was looking for, but it will do for the renderings. It is miles ahead of were I was going, that is for sure. Regards Doug Doug Norton Whitby Ontario Canada Deck U Stair Quick View.pdf Deck U Stairs.pdf

I am doing some deck drawings for a client, and some of the decks are two stories. I have done the stairs using the automatic CA stair generator, and that gave me good results. The client wants me to use deck boards (5/4 x 6) for the treads. So there would be a tread width of 11 1/8 inch total width without ripping the boards, and leaving a 1/8 gap between the boards. So without resorting to a lot of cad work, is there a way to change the default tread to accomplish this? Doug Norton Whitby Ontario Canada

Frame Details Not Showing In Wall Detail
Doug_N replied to Don_Straub_Const's topic in General Q & A
Hi Chopsaw, I created the objects in 3d views by creating a CAD box, then converted those into solids. Set the layer for the object to Framing, beam (or post) steel. but they don't show up in the wall detail. I really don't want to manually draw them over again in different views, too many chances for errors. Maybe I should do it all over again by copying a stud or ceiling plate and modifying properties.- 9 replies

Frame Details Not Showing In Wall Detail
Doug_N replied to Don_Straub_Const's topic in General Q & A
I have a bit of a different wall detail question. I have created an eight foot opening in a wall and used CAD tools to draw a steel header and steel posts and would like to see this in the wall detail. The lumber shows up, but not the steelwork. The steel layer was set to Framing, beams steel which is also set to display in the Wall Detail Set. Any suggestions?- 9 replies

You guys are amazing. Thanks for the info. Now at least I know where to look and where maybe what to do to edit the ML

Glenn, I used CAD tools to create solids. I also tried using beam and post tools

I am designing a pool outbuilding for a client and have created some custom steel framing, but I don't see the items in the material system. How do I do this? Doug Norton Whitby Ontario 905 409 8487

Thank you for this example of how to handle the chimney problem. Great tutorial and advice. Doug
-
Thanks for the links and tips

I saw a comment about fewer chimneys due to high efficiency gas appliances but fire places are still prevalent in single family houses. Most of my work is renovation so I have to duplicate what is there now. I am not sure about how to use poly lines because I a a noobee to AC

I have a renovation project where I am doing as built drawings for demo etc. There is a fireplace on the ground floor that is quite wide. The chimney protrudes out through the exterior wall, which is brick, and at the second floor, the chimney narrows down from a rectangle to a square before going through the roof plane. How can I do that? Doug Norton Whitby Ontario Canada
