Does anyone know where last years UGM Videos have gone? There was lots of info in them that I could now use so hopefully they haven't been removed.

I am trying to find the video explaining how to make a custom railing into a symbol so it can be placed on a wall. I think this was from the user meeting but cannot seem to find anything with numerous searches. I believe there was also a discussion on various ways to accomplish this but obviously I am inept with search engines.

Thank you Perry. I had read that they suggested starting a new profile plan because of all the changes. I am having a few issues with my templates I brought forward so I may spend some time changing over. As to the original post, having the templates set up the way you like to complete the drawings gives you a really good guideline. Hard to go wrong if you complete all the pages.

When you move forward to X8 do you start all of this again with a new profile plan and then copy and paste? Or?

If you put them in your user catalogue would they remain untouched if you did an update? -
Have you done a forum search? There have been a lot of stainless materials that users have shared.

SSA is a big investment for me each year as I'm sure it is for most of the subscribers. I expect to get tech support, upgrades and all the current libraries (residential AND light commercial) for this fee. I should not have to go to sketchup for my symbols but I will, before I pay for any. If Chief doesn't think enough people want these libraries they should work on others that meet the needs of more users. If they are doing them for specific users, those users should pay for the development time.

Eric. I reviewed my plan this AM and and found all my exterior walls had the auto-roof return checked. I went back to my template plan and it is now fixed. Once again, Thanks.
-
The "add a roof" solution probably decreases the amount of light entering the scene. It would depend on the sun angle, thus, it wouldn't help in some situations. That was a great explanation Graham.

I posted a plan yesterday at 5:00 and by 6:30 had a properly functioning drawing thanks to a couple great people on the forum. If I hadn't posted the plan I would have been up half the night trying to make it work and I would have wasted a number of people's time guessing how to fix it. I'm sure my clients will appreciate it when I send them proper option presentations this morning. Other forum members may learn something from this plan and the fix so I see it as a win-win.

Thanks I'll have a look after dinner!! And maybe some wine.

Is the ceiling flush with the veranda or raised Eric?
-
Thanks Glen. I'll continue to gnaw on this. I thought I checked all the overhangs a couple times but was getting pretty tired of seeing that stupid return every time so I may have moved something when I started tossing my mouse

Thank you for the suggestions Eric. The front veranda roof is 4 1/2/12 so I have room for flashing. I want the ceiling height to be continuous throughout, is that not possible as it would be in real life. I would normally just call up the different heel heights for the offset pitches. I did try raising the baselines but that didn't work well either. This will not do the trusses properly either:-( Did the upper gable work on its own when you redid the roof? I tried that but it didn't work for me. David. I don't know how Chief used to work but so far I have been able to get things to work pretty well and I really do not want to just draw things on. I want them to work in 3D for viewing.

I am trying to get a couple options together for exteriors on this plan. I used the auto roof function to begin with and then started working on just the front view for some presentations. I would like the gable end returns to look like they are currently (except for the one upper one on the left which is wrong in another way). When I try to raise the steeper pitched front stair gable so the fascia board height matches the veranda roofline (6 1/2") I get an extended box return instead of it staying as is, even when the rooflines are not touching. I have tried raising it using the dbx and matching the fascia height and also by raising it up 6 1/2" with the transform replicate tool. I have changed every setting I can imagine (so something may be very wrong by now) and cannot make it work. I have to do some more with full gables and a steeper pitch on the house but that will not go well if I can't get this to work. I have also attached a couple screen shots. HP.0204.X8.zip

Thank you Scott. I will do that to my main template plan and then resave. Some files I have sent in to Chief have had a huge amount of unused materials.
-
One thing I have noticed when doing a save entire plan file was all the materials that I haven't put in the plan. I imagine they came in with the template plan. How do I get rid of them if that is the case? I can research this over the weekend if it is something obvious that I should have looked up:-)

Put it in suggestions and also send in a request.

Thanks Dermot. I will update tomorrow. This catalogue is something I will use on 80% of my projects.

I'll give that a try. Thanks Jim. Hopefully they will change it in the library for an updated version.

That would be great. I have been changing their layer so they don't show in the views to my clients, instead of adjusting them. No idea how at this point and no time to learn.
-
I tried to use some of the James Hardie products on one of my projects and it looks like there is no pattern attached. Have I missed something or is this a big disappointment for my construction drawings? Having the correct product for Ray Trace is great but not if it doesn't translate into the plans.

How is the upper section supported?
-
They will not be able to open your drawings except with a viewer. Chief is not backwards compatible.
