  1. @ValleyGuyI'm still not seeing these options, it won't allow me to open the header specifically, maybe it's because I don't typically use the framing features? I'm going to use the pass-through idea, I think this will be the easier route for now. Thank you for your time, I appreciate the screenshots!

@glennwsmart thinking, I will go this route!

    Thanks everyone! :)

  2. Thank you for the suggestions!

    1) @GeneDavis@tundra_dweller Turning off the window layer and turning on the "opening header lines" layer seems like the perfect solution other than it adding it over the doors, which also adds it over the interior doors. I will add this to the suggestion forum to seperate windows and doors.

Also FYI I asked about the roof plane lines in another forum post and we came up with a couple solutions, link here:

    2) @ValleyGuy Thank you for the detailed screenshot, I don't use chief for the material take-offs so this won't be an issue. I tried to follow your steps but my settings were different with PC vs mac so I couldn't find the framing specifcation for header only, is this under framing defaults (attached)?

I feel the easiest way might be to just turn off the window layer and draw a couple lines on the outside / inside layer of the wall.

  3. Thank you @BenPalmer and @robdyck, both of those options worked so I have a few options to choose! :)

    1) Turn off roof plane layer, turn on roof overhang layer, uncheck "soffits" to remove double line on floor plan view. Only issues with this one is it will remove soffits on 3D views, which may not matter if this file is solely for the presentaiton floor plans and not renders, but it also still shows the roof planes on the dormers for some reason.

    2) Create polyline around exterior, white fill, move to order 27 (behind room fill), move all roof planes to order 39 back (behind room polyline).

  4. Is there a way to show the roof plane lines on plan view just outside the exterior walls and not inside the home? Attached example.

I could convert the file to CAD lines and trim them, or maybe make a white rectangle around the house perimeter and hide the roof planes behind it? Wasn't sure if there was something in the settings to make it easier, or anyone had suggestions.

I know this is an odd request, but this is how we show the drawings on our website as presentation drawings. They usually do them in CAD but want me to try and replicate it in chief so we can do it this way moving forward.

    Thanks in advance!

  5. Is there a way to show the windows on plan view with no glazing line in the middle? Just wanting a rectangle / space in the wall to depict a window opening, attached example.

I could convert the file to CAD lines and erase them, or show white rectangles over each window to cover the glazing lines, but wasn't sure if there was something in the settings to make it easier.

I think that is because you have a plain curve selected - not a Walkthrough Path.

You can convert the curve to a Walkthrough Path by selecting Convert Polyline from the Edit menu.

Or cancel your selection and you can then use Create Walkthrough Path to draw one.

That is a walkthrough path that was created which has different key frames on it.

Thanks everyone for your help. I have decided to keep the door open as I don't think what I'm looking for is an easy solution or possible without a lot of editing required. Originally I was looking for the door to open as the video walks into the house. Here is the final product just keeping the door open which I think looks good enough! :)

Once I start my walkdown (I use a 3DConnection mouse too so its more smooth, left hand), I click (with my regular mouse, right hand) on that pull down so the pause button is always on top.. I pause for doors, changing directions or rooms.. Am I ready for Hollywood, no way.. but it communicates what I need to show.

I just have a regular mouse, is there a way to pause during a "create walkthrough path"?

I do open doors via Chief walk trough vid.  How I do it is once I start my walkthrough and approach a door, I pause the recording, open (or close) that door, then un pause and keep on walking.. works perfectly.

I "solved" this post too quickly lol! Thank you, this is very helpful. I'm fairly new at the walkthroughs, how do you pause?

  9. Hi Joey - I don't use the auto roofs, I just draw them manually with "roof plane". What do you mean by "full return" is that an option in the settings I need to uncheck? I just tried deleting and re-drawing but same thing is happening. I also just tried on the other side of the garage, same thing but also weird it worked fine by the porch. See screenshot (very rough right now).

Try starting with an 11 or 12 point text in Word and I think you'll find that it works better.  It seems to behave differently depending on the source text size.

I tried copying from 11 and 12 in word and it still pastes as a slightly higher fractioned number in chief, very weird.

The transform replicate resizing works alright, although I am a bit OCD with the sizes being exact, it will do for now!

    Thanks Michael!

More likely than not, when you did it in the past, you pasted it directly into a Rich Text box that already had the number height set appropriately and so you never had to go through the resize process.  If you simply paste directly into the plan, it will come in at a size that is proportional to what it was in Word.  To get what you want, open a Rich Text box, set the number height appropriately, and then paste what you copied from Word.

I tried this at the start, but for some reason it still wants to change the height automatically to a slightly higher fractioned number. I've came up with a way to sort of solve the issue, I used the transform replicate to resize the rich text to get it closer to the height I want.

PS thanks for your help guys, I really appreciate it!! :)

  12. It's working in X12 (sorry I misread the message above from Michael explaining that). I copy the text from "new result" and open rich text, I set the font / size, and paste but then it changes it to arial automatically (which looks proportional) and then I go to change it to another font and it spaces out the numbers.

  13. Michael, I tried copying the numbers you had posted above from your phone and they show up and resize fine, they just look very spaced out. The black numbers are what I had before when I was having no issues (from MS Word to Chief) compared to the blue which is the copied numbers from your phone.

I'm using X9, although we have X10 and X12 here at work... I hate change haha!

I downloaded your attachment above and followed the steps, I don't have the "new result" field but it seems to be showing weird symbols rather than superscript.

I have 2 chief files where I've done these window numbers before, I will try to make do and copy and paste what I can from those. I'm sure I have similar windows sizes so it shouldn't be a problem. I was just hoping there was an explanation why this all of a sudden wasn't working for me, just weird it's worked fine in the past!
