Altering Tile patterns

Recommended Posts

I have designed a bathroom and I am applying travertine tile to the walls and floors. The only tile pattern I can see in the material library is a standard pattern. My question is how can I alter the Tile dimension's and pattern?

The tile size can be adjusted in the material DBX, "Pattern' for the 2D display & "Texture" for the 3D display. There are a wide range of tile texture patterns in the Datile manufacturer library and the is also a Bonus Tile library. You can also create your own texture & patterns in Photoshop or just google "Free Textures", there are a number of sites you can download from, also try the Setchup 3D Warehouse.

This is the place where things become less automatic and require some technical and artistic talent to get the correct look. Here is a typical scenario: You find a tile pattern that you like and the image is set for 3x6 tile. Easy enough to change the tile size to 6x12 and double the scale of the texture image. But, once you do that the grout joint also doubles and you get a monster grout joint since the grout joint is a part of the texture image.

In order to correct this you will need to find that image, alter it and bring it in as the new image for your tile. A little knowledge of Photoshop, Gimp or some other image editing software is required.

In other news, did you install the Dal Tile library from the CA website? That really opens up the options.

I am stumped!  I have this tile floor I need to display.  I had to do so many workarounds to create the border and the tiles themselves. Now I am being asked to add a pattern onto the tile.  I have spent a lot of time creating work-arounds and feel like I am chasing my tail.  I took the tile and patterns and created a material. But I ended up piecing  it together for the right spacing and it looks awful.  Any ideas? Attached are layouts and materials. Thanks!

Looking at laying out the shower stalls and backsplashes in my plans with more detail. Is there a way in Chief to lay these things out ( actual tile sizes and shapes, arranged layed out to scale of the drawing ) so that they appear as they will to the client when the job is done? Or do I just create a cad block? I would like it to look right in 3D views and whatnot for clients. Typical design : diamond12x12 above mosaic strip 6" or so, above 16x16 squares... how do I do this in Chief? Or can it be done?
      THANKS!
