I can't open sample plans when downloaded

Recommended Posts

I'm very new to Chief Architect and I'm just trying to get started....especially on remodels.  I would love to be able to use an existing "remodel layer set" to start from and get going with this software that I hope will help me do my job more efficiently.  Every time I download Dalton or Albertson it tell me I can't open the zip. file....it's unsupported.  What's that mean?

Please help - I really want this investment to work.

Thanks,

Robert

What version of Chief are you using?  For remodels, I use the "existing cad mask in the background method", and have been for many years. It gives you a cleaner model which is important for everything else you do. the info is here " https://www.google.com/url?q=http://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-02208/&sa=U&ei=sA2YVemUL4OvyQTr-pCABg&ved=0CAUQFjAA&client=internal-uds-cse&usg=AFQjCNFi0-sO9XSWNxTyf4cocmtT_XIlZA      Maybe you have to drag the plan file to the desktop then open it.

First, unzip the file.  Do not try to launch the *.plan while viewing within the *.zip.

yep , sounds like you tried to open the zip with Chief ? , unzip it to an empty folder or your desktop and then open the .plan.

Just dragging it to your desktop automatically unzips it.

In our Home Designer Software product line, we offer a feature called "Find Plan Assistant". This is a tool for the user to reference both editable and non-editable sample plans. The non-editable plans are HTML pages that link to the authoring company's website for purchase.

The idea is to give Home Designer users resources for plan design ideas and also to offer them the opportunity to purchase a plan set from a partner.

This tool is popular with users who are planning a remodel or new construction. It also offers partner companies exposure from within all 5 of our Home Designer products via direct links to their websites.

We are currently looking to link these users to multiple new plan sources. We want to offer this opportunity first to Chief Architect users who are in the business of selling plan sets. We feel that this would be more mutually beneficial than continuing to work with the plan mill we are sourcing from now.

Some of the requirements in a candidate are:
      ·         An established website that allows for browsing home plans
      ·         At least 150 suitable home plans that can be reference from the Home Designer Software
      ·         Plan Providers should be able to take the time to edit and organize data into a format that will be compatible with the "Find Plan Assistant" feature (requirements will be provided later). They should also have resources available to provide long-term maintenance for the duration of the partnership.

If this sounds like a fit with your business model, we would love to hear from you!
Please send us a link to your plan source website at content@chiefarchitect.com.

We will be reviewing potential candidates and hope to find a variety of resources to point Home Designer users toward.
